I still can’t believe how quickly time is rushing by! May is our 12th issue and marks our first year anniversary. I remember preparing for a trip to Barcelona with the girls this time last year, and finding out I’d be handling this magazine roughly around the same time – needless to say, there was a lot of celebratory sangria involved.

But I digress; if you’re a traveller, then I’d like to take the opportunity to welcome you to our beautiful islands. If you’re a local, then I would like to thank you for choosing Air Malta and wish you a pleasant flight. Summer is round the corner and the Maltese Islands are gearing up. We started 2016 where we left off - with a quarterly increase of 73% in property sales. We ended 2015 with a 98% increase over the previous year - grossing over €420 million worth of property sales whereas our Letting business roared into one of the best years in our history.

Our continuous growth in turnover may be attributed to our insistent focus on human resources, development of new tools for our agents as well as a common overall vision to increase our already dominant market share in the real estate industry.

Over the last twelve to eighteen months, the commercial real estate industry has seen an increase in activity. Both foreign and locals are investing in office space and other types of lucrative investments that garner steady yields. New multi-purpose projects have been confirmed and are going to be built near the central, northern and southern parts of Malta which should accommodate the inundated demand, and will fill the gap of under supply of internationally built commercial units. This is not to say that there aren’t commercial offices available today, but it only confirms the growth of Malta’s vibrant and cost effective business hub persona. This year we have invested in the specialised sister brand of RE/MAX, namely RE/MAX Commercial.

Last November we launched another signature brand, RE/MAX Collection, a luxury real estate brand like no other in Malta. Agents within the RE/MAX ranks may apply to become a RE/MAX Collection agent however the criteria are that of experience, accumulative career sales, average sales price and a test score which must be rated over 75%. Our vision for RE/MAX Collection is to provide for those affluent clients that do not want to deal with any estate agent but an established agent that not only has the skill to deal with certain customers but also have the persona and experience backing their specialised trade.

The company has set targets to launch websites for both new brands, which will be totally focused on the two niches separately. These websites will only feature estate agents that have met the international requirements to represent properties in these prestigious multi-functional websites. The courses that our estate agents have to attend are very intensive and are field practical and customised for real estate.

In February, we hosted our first ever convention for our associates, which included the participation of two international trainers. In attendance were over 350 local RE/MAX affiliates that work from our twenty-two offices around Malta and Gozo. The event served as an annual statistics review, education and culminated into an awards ceremony for our top producing agents.

At the end of February, both my brother and I were invited to a Top 20 Global Regional Owner meeting where we were nominated for being one of the top six regions worldwide. This meeting was followed by an International Convention held in Vegas which was attended by twelve Maltese RE/MAX affiliates amongst another 6000 RE/MAX affiliates from all over the world.

Mark Micallef and Philip Incorvaja - both sales associates working from RE/MAX Real Esate Specialists in Tigné Point - were awarded Hall of Fame Award status as well as the RE/MAX Platinum Award, whereas Lee Tabone, who also attended the International Convention together with Matthew Axisa, was awarded into the 100% club. This is an achievement not only for RE/MAX Malta but also for the Maltese in general, who are being recognised for their professional and hard work globally.

From an economic point of view, I am proud to have been part of the strategic planning and launch of the Malta Property Code and Regulations White Paper, both as an industry player as well as the Vice President of the Federation of Estate Agents. This milestone has given us the ambition and the motivation to further regularise real estate operations run locally in order to achieve a level that is envied globally. This regulation will create a safe environment for both vendors and buyers investing in property in Malta, and will attract more foreign investment towards our island to, in turn, maintain the healthy economic growth we are all so proud of.

The momentum achieved in February was retained by the Q2 project in Tigné Point where RE/MAX Malta was responsible for selling most of these luxury units - and within a span of only one week. We are grateful to always be considered as the number one real estate company for high net worth investments. This is only another sign of accumulated trust we have earned over a long history of providing our investment customers sound advice that has garnered excellent returns.

March also witnessed the birth of our latest product within our portfolio by the launch of RE/MAX Auctions. RE/MAX has once again placed itself at the forefront of the local real estate market. After scrutinising the most suitable property on the market we will be marketing selected properties that will be for sale on auction. Our strength of 300 strong sales associates working from 22 different RE/MAX Offices located around the Maltese islands, will be offering 50 properties (Lots) per auction. It was a French Grand master who built the magnificent Verdala Palace overlooking Buskett valley. The palace is also commonly referred to as ‘castle’, and, indeed, it looks like one as it surmounts a rocky little hill in the centre of

Malta surveying the whole island. The four towers and thick walls that rise from the moat give the palace an almost extra-terrestrial aspect. However, inside it is full of light and airy rooms. On the ground floor are large marble-floored spaces with a wide spiral staircase that leads to the sleeping area above. Verdala stands in all its glory, dominating the verdant beauty of wooded Buskett Valley.

The ongoing Lifesaving Buskett project, which is partly funded by the European Union Life + Programme and is scheduled to run until May 2018, aims to protect and enhance the habitats of Malta’s largest semi-natural woodland by regenerating its watercourse, protecting the stability of the ground on its valley sides, and removing the alien species that are harming habitats. A large number of trees – some 1,500 – have already been planted.

Maltese architect and military engineer Girolamo Cassar designed Verdala Palace. Built on high ground it was destined

to be the Grand master’s summer residence. Busketto Gardens nearby would enable Grand master Hughues Loubenx de Verdalle (1582-1595) to hunt, the favourite occupation of princes back in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Many palaces were embellished with fountains, for these brought prestige, represented peaceful administration and civilized leisure. Quality fountains enhanced the gardens in Verdala too. The two principle fountains were known as La Fontana Sotto Gli Aranci (the Fountain Beneath the Orange Grove) and La Fontana Dentro La

Grotta (The Fountain Inside a Cave).

Grand master Jean de la Valette had built a hunting lodge in the valley of Buskett. Verdalle had an impressive personality and wanted something more grandiose, something that could be left to posterity so he replaced the hunting lodge with a palace. He was au courant with the latest artistic developments in Italy and France, and engaged the Tuscan master Filippo Paladini (born around 1544) to paint frescoes in the halls and chambers of the building. Verdalle chose his personal achievements to be illustrated rather than episodes of the Order’s glorious history. The frescoes picture him presenting his proofs of nobility for admission into The Order, receiving

his Cardinal’s hat from Pope Sixtus V, leading his knights on horseback, and other highlights from his life.

Paladini is particularly remembered for this work and also for his fine frescoes in the Palace chapel in Valletta, which describe incidents of the life of St John the Baptist, patron saint of the Order. They are considered the most beautiful treasures of the Palace. This great artist produced other exceptional work.

He came to Malta as a galley slave as he had been involved in riots and lawsuits, and, after being sued for armed assault, he was condemned to three years on the galleys. Grand Master Verdalle managed to get him transferred to his service.

The frescoes have been heavily retouched and it has been remarked that some restoration work did little justice to the

originals. In 2003 the Paintings and Polychrome Sculpture Department started a three-year project to uncover the frescoes that had been whitewashed in the early 20th century. Finally Heritage Malta took matters in hand and a full-blown restoration project was launched in 2005. The result is impressive.

Grand masters Lascaris and Cotoner, too, contributed in building and refurbishing the palace and made changes and embellished it and its gardens. The Portuguese Grand Master Antonio Manoel de Vilhena (1722-36) made structural modifications and changes. In various places you can see his coat-of-arms, his portrait and bust. The Spanish Grand master Rafael Cotoner started building a chapel dedicated to St Anthony the Abbot around 1660. It was completed by his brother, Grand master Nicolas Cotonera in 1664. It is a beautiful little chapel with paintings by the Baroque artist Mattia Preti

who lived in Malta from 1660 until his death in 1699.

Verdala Palace was, for a while, converted into a prison for French prisoners of war, some of whom stayed there until 1814. It was also used as a silk factory in 1827.

The fortunes of the palace improved when Governor Sir Frederick Cavendish Ponsonby (1827-35) restored it to a habitable state and used it as a place to relax with his family. Governor Sir William Reid (1851-58) too, restored it further and used it as the governor’s country residence. His successor Sir John Gaspard le Marchant (1858-64) made it presentable again. It had several royal visitors over the years, among them Edward VII and Alexandra of Denmark, the Empress of Russia in 1909, King George V and Queen Mary came in 1912 while Wilhelm II Emperor of Germany visited in 1919. King George VI came twice in 1913 and 1943. Heads of state Ceausescu, Giovanni Leone, Gaddafi and Tito toured Verdala Palace when they were here on state visits.

To this day, Verdala is a palace to be proud of.

May is the month before the scorching sun takes over and the really hot weather sets in. By July flowers are as scarce

as vegetarian mosquitoes. But May is a civilised month; a month for weddings, when churches are decorated with a profusion of gladioli, carnations and roses. The last picnics à la Renoir also take place in May. By now the rubble walls are hiding gigantic eiderdowns of red clover or silla. Suddenly gargantuan duvets of wild flowers come into view. And you will see hosts, not of Wordsworth’s ‘golden daffodils’, but of yellow Oxalis pes-Caprae or, as it is known locally, ħaxixa ta l-Ingliżi, liberally translated as English grass. It originally comes from the Cape of Good Hope. The British call it Cape Sorrel or African Oxalis. Apparently it did not exist in its wild state in Malta before the coming of the British. But now it is everywhere and has become a weed – a cheerful one, but a weed nevertheless.

Get away from the epidemic of buildings and into the countryside where there are fewer peace pollutants. If you’re a couch potato this is an opportunity to walk along the country paths in Wardija or on Dingli Cliffs, at Mtaħleb or Wied

iż-Żurrieq. Or take the 20-minute boat ride to Gozo, where there are hills and it is considerably greener.

The Maltese spring really starts around February and then disappears by the end of May to bring in the scorching, dry summer months. During the long spring, the bulbs which have been hidden under the soil, the tubers and seeds of a large array of herbaceous plants, have been gradually coming to life. There is a variety of orchids: the Bag Orchid, the Milky Orchid, the endemic Maltese Pyramidal Orchid, the Bumble-Bee Orchid, the Maltese Spider Orchid, and so many more. Look out for the Maltese Rock Centaury, the pretty White Rockrose, the Sand Crocus, the Barbary Nut Iris, the Rough Poppy. Irises and poppies are everywhere. The varieties of Broomrape sometimes take over. The endemic variety of this plant is white rather than blue. It feeds parasitically on the Cape Sorrel. The golden heads of the Crown Daisies are ubiquitous but bees do not like them. Bunches of the sweet-smelling French daffodil or Southern Narcissus are often sold on the roadside.

The most characteristic type of natural landscape on these islands is the garigue which is typical of rocky areas. In summer it lies dormant and there is nothing but seemingly vast stretches of bare rock with pockets of soil. But at the first sign of rain in October it starts coming to life.

There are low shrubs with small leaves that are tough and can withstand the summer heat. There is also the olive-leafed Gerrymander, with its dark green leaves and white underside. One of the principal shrubs is the Mediterranean thyme which is an important source of honey. Jean Quintin D’Autun praised local honey produced from thyme as far back as 1536 in his description of Malta. D’Autun, born in Burgundy, France, served the Order as chaplain of the French Knights and also compiled the laws of the Order. This same Quintinus was the first to write purposely and solely on Malta in those early days, so his description is very important. And yes, Maltese bees, or what remains of them, still make amazing honey!

Caper bushes grow on rocky ground and rock faces and they can be seen hanging on the bastions and fortifications. Their purplish-white flowers have a beauty of their own. The flower buds are picked, and pickled and give a very special flavour to fish and salads. Flowers also bloom in public and private gardens, balconiesand courtyards.

The Maltese garden, whether intimate or large, is often a secret place set in splendid seclusion. Gardens and courtyards give pleasure to the owner, and amaze and enchant the visitor lucky enough to be invited to see them.

The public gardens in May are ablaze with flowers. Visit the Upper and

Lower Barrakka Gardens, with their stunning views of Grand Harbour and fortifications. In Valletta, too, there is the recently-embellished Hastings Garden located on top of the bastions on the west side of City Gate. It also has magnificent views of Floriana and Marsamxett Harbour. Walk into Sa Maison Gardens which overlook Marsamxetto Harbour, or the Argotti Botanical Gardens, laid out by Grand master Pinto as a private garden. Have coffee or lunch at Palazzo Parisio in Naxxar; their gardens which are kept in bloom all the year round. Go for a walk in the public gardens of Grand master Antoine de Paule’s Palace - San Anton, in Attard, built in 1623. The Knights were very proud of their management of

their water supplies. They had beautiful fountains built in gardens and public places. There are some magnificent ones in San Anton.

Malta’s climatic conditions are not conducive to producing beautiful gardens. But there are gardens which are magical simply because their owners are determined to make them so. There are flowering cacti, crimson, white, pink or purple bougainvillea, (some of which can sometimes be seen peeping over a garden wall.) Geraniums are survivors, as are oleanders. Roses are magnificent. According to Quintanus, the Maltese used to stuff pillows with them!

When the Judas tree is in bloom, when pink and white oleanders splash their colours, Maltese streets come alive in May with colours that are mostly lost in the searing summer months.

In the heart of Birgu’s labyrinthine streets you will come across an architectural gem, The Inquisitor’s Palace, one of the few surviving

examples of a style of palace that would have been found all over Europe and South America in the early modern period. This atmospheric palace is now also known as the National Museum of Ethnography.

The original palace was built in the 16th century as a courthouse, the Castellania, the civil law courts of the Order of St John. After the Great Siege and the building of Valletta, the Knights moved to the new capital. The palace was used as the Inquisitor’s residence from 1574 to 1798. It was the residence of 63 inquisitors who made it their home, and it saw considerable alterations since its original foundations as the Castellania.

Over the years the façade was rebuilt, the palace enlarged and a fine main staircase constructed in 1733. Throughout the 19th

century it was used by the British as an 'Officer’s Mess' when further alternations were made. In fact most of the numerous fireplaces with the cipher George III were installed by the British.

This building functioned partly as the private residence of the Inquisitor, partly as his administrative headquarters and partly as a prison and courtroom.

Inquisition specialist and historian Fr Alexander Bonnici writes that, 'the Inquisition was an institution built on Canon Law with the express purpose of safeguarding the purity of the faith in Catholic countries. The Inquisitor was the one officially appointed by the church, whose duty it was to identify heretics, to warn them about their errors, and to restrain their liberty if they had not shown sufficient evidence of repentance.'

There had been three forms of Inquisition within the Catholic Church: the Medieval, the Roman and the Spanish – the latter being the most notorious, and it is fortunate that these islands only had a brief encounter with it.

The Inquisitor used to give sentences 'according to the mores of his time, which were very severe by today’s standards. The death penalty meant hanging.'

Two of the Inquisitors eventually became popes: Fabio Chigi (Inquisitor in Malta

between 1634 and 1639), a member of the great illustrious banking family, was to become Pope Alexander VII, and Antonio Pignatelli (Inquisitor in Malta between 1646-49), who came from one of the most aristocratic families of the Kingdom of Naples, became Pope Innocent XII. Paolo Passionei was the longest serving Inquisitor in Malta (1743-1754). He secretly had a mistress and became father of two females. After he left Malta he was defrocked.

But back to the Inquisitor’s Palace. The Gothic cloister in the main courtyard, with its quadripartite vaults, is impressive and beautiful. It is little short of a miracle that this Palace survived the bombings of World War II.

Visit the prison complex and enter a couple of prison cells, most of them with a low doorway. Here you will see one of the rare early modern prison structures which still survives. There were two prison sections: one for detention, before

a trial, and one for punishment, after a sentence. In both cases prisoners were kept in separate cells. Some had toilet facilities in their cells, others were taken by the warden to the toilet pit. You can still see it in the courtyard.

You can also still see graffiti on the walls of some cells. After all, prisoners had to while away the time doing something.

On the top f loor the Inquisitor had his solarium, where he relaxed in the sun on fine days. In his book Malta: An Account of Appreciation, Sir Harry Luke, who was Lieutenant Governor of Malta from 1930-1938, observes that this side of the building 'overlooks the execution-yard; but with a refinement and delicacy of feeling the windows here are raised so that the great man should not be inconvenienced by the sight of the unpleasant end of his victims.' However, historians tell us that no one seems sure that this indeed was the execution yard.

The kitchen, the tribunal room and the prison complex have been restored and are certainly worth visiting, as are the Inquisitor’s bedroom and the dungeon.

There is a very interesting permanent exhibition on the impact of the Inquisition on Maltese society with plenty of old documents.

The Inquisition was abolished in 1798 when French Republican forces occupied Rome, and the Pope was sent to exile. The Grand master in Malta surrendered to Napoleon, and the Order’s and the Inquisition’s property was seized by the French. It was subsequently used as a hospital, an Officer’s Mess by the British, and even a refugee camp. For all that the Inquisitors were greatly feared, and in extreme cases, 'witnesses needed to be dragged to court after being arrested' however the Maltese trusted their just judgements, often preferring to be tried by the Inquisitor than the Grand masteror Bishop.

Among those who were bound to appear before the Inquisitor were heretics which also included those who converted to Judaism, Saracens, Muslims and pagans; those who blasphemed against God, the Virgin Mary or any of the Saints; those who kept books or writings of a heretical content or defended writing on witchcraft. In fact, witchcraft was by far the most common fault or crime committed by the Maltese. There is another Inquisitor’s Palace in Girgenti, together with a chapel , built in 1625, by Inquisitor Onorario Visconti (1624-27) as a summer residence. However it appears that it was rarely used as such. It is now the Prime Minister’s summer residence.

The Victoria International Arts Festival has established itself as the longest-running festival of its kind on the islands. Dubbed 'Gozo’s quiet revolution' by Times columnist Prof. Maurice Cauchi, the VIAF has risen to unprecedented heights in terms of the quality of its programmes and the educational importance it gives to students, both local and foreign. Lately, it has been

awarded the EFFE (Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe) label in recognition of the excellence of the programme’s content.

For its 19th edition, between8 - 11 June 2016, a series of 36 concerts, together with exhibitions, master classes, and specialised talks, will be presented. This is a five-week period of uninterrupted musical and cultural activity that is attracting tourists and music-lovers who visit Gozo specifically for the festival. As for the past 18 years, the opening and closing concerts of the festival will see the participation of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Prof. Joseph Vella, artistic director of the Festival. The concerts, which take place all over Victoria, comprise chamber ensembles of various and diverse formations, soloists, choirs, big bands, orchestras, and more. No fewer than 20 different countries from all over the world, including South America, Asia, and Australia, will be represented, and over 600 performers will be taking part. All concerts and cultural events are offered to the public free of charge.

International musicians such as Tchaikovsky winner cellist Daniel Veis, the famous Martinů Quartet, one of the world’s foremost piano quintets Ensemble 4.1, the Sakyr Quintet, the Marylebone Trio, prize-winning South Korean pianist Young Choon-Park, virtuoso violinist Andrea Gajic and many more, have been engaged to perform for this year’s 19th edition. The organisers are proud to acknowledge that the National Music Competition for Youths of both Upper Austria and Norway, and the prestigious EMCY (European Music Competition for Youths), award their respective first prize winners with a concert in VIAF.

A major emphasis of VIAF is to provide a sound educational platform for up-and-coming local musicians who are exposed to performances of excellence, and to master classes during which they are able to showcase their talents and learn from top professionals in their field. A Debutants’ Concert is held every year in this regard, and a local composer is asked to speak about his/her work in ‘The Composer Speaks’ series. Also, a five-day series of Baroque concerts is held within the wider framework of VIAF, during which patrons enjoy superb playing by experts on period instruments, including the beautiful Antunes model harpsichord that VIAF bought specifically for the needs of the Festival.

Are you one of those patients missing multiple teeth in either your top or bottom jaws…. or both? If so, for how long have you missed

out on chewing on your back teeth? Missing multiple teeth is a very common scenario, which often goes untreated for a very long time. In some individuals patients aren’t interested in replacing these teeth as they aren’t visible with the normal aperture of the mouth.

Effects of missing teeth:

1. Toothwear: Biting and having to chew on just the front teeth leads to tooth-wear. Over a long period, these front teeth lose height and appear very smooth as they are being overused.

2. Tooth fracture: Missing teeth puts additional pressure on remaining teeth, resulting in micro-cracks which may lead to tooth fracture and/or de-coronation (breaking the crown of the tooth leaving just the roots).

3. Tooth mobility: Teeth are supported in their sockets thanks to the gingival tissue, in particular to the periodontal ligament fibres attaching them to bone. If teeth are under excessive stress, this ligament suffers and, with time, teeth start moving, resulting in tooth loss. This may also cause the teeth to drift outwards, splaying themselves and increasing the spaces between them.

4. Tooth pain: overloading of the remaining teeth may result in them

dying off, requiring root canal treatment and further prosthetic work.

5. Bone loss: Loss of posterior or anterior teeth in either jaw results in bone loss, as the bone does not receive a stimulus due to the lack of tooth roots. In the top jaw the bone loss causes a reduction in distance between the maxillary sinuses and the mouth. In the bottom jaw the distance between the mouth and inferior dental nerve present in the mandible is also reduced. Over a long period of time, the volume of bone loss may be very large. This would mean that if implants are planned, maxillary sinus bone grafting would be required in the top jaw and bone grafting would be required in the bottom jaw, thus increasing the element of surgery for the patient and complexity for the implant surgeon.

6. Tooth migration: Missing teeth would cause present teeth to drift into the resultant space, creating odd contacts on chewing, excessive tooth-wear facets, as well as inconvenient food packing around the remaining teeth. Upper teeth often over-erupt into the space of the lower missing teeth due to lacking their antagonist to chew on. Over a number of years upper molars may completely descend into the space of the lower missing molars causing traumatic biting onto the gum. These upper teeth would also appear very long, exposing their roots and reducing their aesthetics. Adding insult to injury, these upper over-erupted teeth would, on closure of the anterior teeth, take up

the space of the missing lower posterior teeth,not leaving any space for the dentist to replace the lower missing teeth.

7. Dento-facial aesthetics: Cheeks and lips tend to collapse inwards resulting in poorer aesthetics, giving rise to an older looking appearance.

8. Digestive problems: Chewing our food mixed with our saliva is the first stage of digestion. If food is not chewed but gobbled instead, this may result in indigestion and acid build-up. Patients, who lack teeth, also stir away from eating certain foods resulting in a lack of nutritional intake.

The list goes on and on. It is never too late to replace your missing dentition, both with removable or fixed teeth. The repercussions are serious.

It all started in 1999 when, together with a friend of mine, we applied to work as extras in an upcoming American blockbuster being filmed in Malta. I did not have any clue of what the job would entail but since my schedule was

flexible at the time I decided to go for it. We turned up with our application forms at the Catholic Institute in Floriana. There we found a crowd in motion, similar to the crowds seen at political meetings on the Floriana Granaries or at the Isle of MTV concert. I was impressed with the number of people, but it also happened to be one of the hottest days of the year, and I considered giving up and returning home. However, something made me stay - perhaps it was the thought that this could be the road to success, or remembering that I was in with the chance to earn Lm30 (€70) for each and every day of filming. Whatever it was, I ignored the heat and waited. For a few days, I kept wondering and daydreaming what it would be like to be chosen. I prayed for luck and appealed to destiny to turn me into a celebrity - a kind of Maltese Leonardo Di Caprio, another Matt Damon.... Then, one fine morning, the much awaited phone call arrived. “Are you still available and willing to work on ‘Gladiator’ starting next week?” Eagerly and without giving it a second thought I replied, “yes sir!” “So can you make it for costume fitting tomorrow?” “Of course,” I answered.

Getting started on set

For the first time in my life, make-up artists, hairdressers and costume fitters surrounded me. I must admit that this first experience with beauty professionals made me feel quite important! I did not need a wig or hair extensions since my hair was medium length. Just like that, it just as though my lifelong time machine dream had come true and I completely immersed myself in the Roman Empire era adventure. I was lost in a gigantic replica of Rome's Colosseum packed like sardines with Roman soldiers, African slaves, Romans, virgins, tigers, Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Oliver Reed and Ridley Scott. It was only the presence of the crew that reminded me that I was actually in the 20th century, and that this was a reality that I was actually living.

The naked truth

Many unusual events took place during filming. One of the most curious stories doing the rounds was an incident that involved three women who took part in a nude scene. They were eventually paid more than we were; in the film industry nakedness attracts more cash it seems. Thinking back to

the day, I recall Gladiator Russell Crowe always walking around. At the time, I had no inkling he would become world-famous and I completely ignored him. I remember him telling us he was looking forward to return to Paceville on the weekend, however he never ended up going there. Perhaps being chased by the ‘Roman virgin girls’ all week on set had worn him out. Another character was Oliver Reed. He was the stereotypical Brit. It was not the first time that we had to redo a scene because he kept repeating the same errors. It was funny in a way, but also tiresome to wait for so long. At times, the Roman arena was home to some 8,000 extras. A few used to skive off on long breaks and return only when it was time to call it a day.

Flourishing industry

The film industry has kept flourishing because the Maltese authorities have consistently invested in it. Film directors started to see our islands as an ideal place for filming. Looking back at my experience, I can now safely say that such a lifestyle is not for me. It is too stressful and entails giving up my private life, something that I am not ready or willing to do. But… I am dreamer and still hope - for a call that might be my ticket to success. Most film stars started from nothing. Why not me? I am a contradiction. I know this is a life I do not want… but I still hope for a call inviting me to be an extra. Whenever I get that call, I still feel butterflies as though it were my first time.

Choice of Properties

When it comes to looking for property in Gozo, the choice is extremely varied – ranging from traditional farmhouses with or without pools (often overlooking a peaceful valley), to apartments, penthouses, and small houses of character. As an added bonus, sea views are quite common wherever you choose to stay!

Gozo is also home to some interesting development projects. Amongst these is Fort Chambray in Ghajnsielem – a luxurious development set in a historic city within a fortress. The Azure Window, Dwejra GOZOThis enormous natural limestone arch is found by the shores of the quaint village of Dwejra [Dewy-rah] in Gozo. Known also for its charming Inland Sea, Dwejra bay is home to one of the most spectacular scuba diving spots in Gozo. We recommend visiting at sunset.

Valletta MALTAColloquially known as ‘Il-Belt’, Valletta is the capital city of Malta that was built during the rule of the Knights of St John. This baroque city is speckled with neo-classical and modern architecture and has been declared Europe’s Capital of Culture 2018.

Ċittadella GOZOAlso known as the Citadel, this small fortified city is found at the heart of Victoria in Gozo. All its fortifications, including the medieval epicentre, are intact. A number of historic buildings are located within its walls making it a definite must-see in Gozo.

Blue Grotto, Qrendi MaltaLocated along the south coast of the island, the Blue Grotto comprises a number of sea caverns that are known for the mesmerising natural display of sunlight and reflections in the water. Daily boat visits to the caves are available during the summer.

blue lagoon cominoTake a short boat ride to Malta’s tiniest island, Comino, and enjoy the glittering aquamarine waters of the aptly-called Blue Lagoon, or the secluded Santa Maria bay. Popular with snorkellers and divers, this tiny paradise welcomes a large number of visitors each year.

Marsaxlokk Fish Market maltaThe popular Sunday market in the fishing village of Marsaxlokk [Mar-Sa-Shlock] is a main attraction for both tourists and locals interested in buying fresh fish and seafood caught earlier on that same morning. A number of seafood restaurants are also found here.

Restaurants and bars all around Malta and Gozo are prepared for the long, busy season ahead. There will be little respite before November. Tables and chairs are set out in village squares and along the seafront shaded under umbrellas and menu boards call outto potential customers whilst fishdisplays tempt them in.

The markets and food stores have much to show off as they proudly display the freshness of the native produce: large crinkled tomatoes, bundles of spring onions, fresh garlic and fragrant parsley all contribute to the authentic tastes of Malta as do a cornucopia of vegetables and fruit. Fish is piled in shimmering colourful, displays of daily freshness. Foreign visitors begin to arrive in numbers, especially those not keen on the intense summer heat and wishing to mix seaside with countryside and culture with a well-earned break.

The legal system and its laws need to be updated constantly or they risk becoming obsolete, resulting in a weaker regulatory regime. This could create difficulties for the regulator to properly regulate the market, for

operators to be in a position to provide the best possible service to the customers, and for customers themselves who risk becoming less protected and more vulnerable.

The overhaul of the gaming legislation in Malta is not merely a luxury – it is a necessity. In such a dynamic sector it is essential that the law is updated to ref lect the day-to-day realities of the industry. It should also cater for technology convergence between various sectors, introduction of new business models, as well as advancement in technology.

The law also needs to allow the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) to be more responsive and less bureaucratic in its processes. For example, non-duplication of controls is key in order to render processes smoother and faster for operators to obtain licences and approvals while ensuring that the level of protection of consumers is not affected.

The industry is also expecting to see a simplification of the licensing system, allowing operators to provide different services under the same licence. Therefore, we are expecting the removal of the distinction between Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 and Class 4 licences and, instead, we are expecting an introduction of a new system with a B2C and a B2B licence which would make it much easier and faster for operators to introduce new games and services under their respective licences.

The industry also requires clearer technical specifications, giving a greater certainty to the industry and consultants. However, the structure of the legislation needs to enable the MGA to react in a timely manner in order to cater for new games and business methods.

While I do not expect operators to face any major implications with the new laws, I believe that the vast majority of the provisions that will be implemented will be advantageous for the industry, keeping consumer protection at the centre of the regulatory regime. Global Citizens Choose Malta

The Malta Individual Investor Programme (MIIP) was launched in March 2013 and has seen an influx of the most financially

successful individuals and their families invest in it. The MIIP is viewed as the most prestigious European citizenship-by-investment programme.

There is a plethora of reasons that motivate the ultra-wealthy to want to acquire a second citizenship. Often, the primary motivator is the next generation and ensuring that they have the security of a future with options. European citizenship represents this.

Hello, it’s me you’re looking for?

You’re sitting comfortably at the bus stop, lapping in the sun, reading a good book, or happily looking at pictures of the fresh cupcakes your friend has just made. You look up to see if the bus is coming and can see it approaching in the distance. Oh good, you think, it’s on time (because, let’s be honest, our buses are not the most punctual means of public transport). You read one last sentence of your book, put it away, stand up, brush off the crumbs of the biscuit you had been eating and then, wait, what? The bus is driving past you, past the stop without bothering to stop for you. It’s a bizarre scenario but in Malta, for the majority of times for bus travellers, unless you flag down a bus – taxi style – the driver will not stop for you. Perhaps he thinks you’re sitting on the bus stop because it’s your pastime. Who knows…

Hair there, everywhere

Well, hopefully not. But the fact that your average pastizzi (cheese or peacakes) guy or gal does not wear a hair net does not appear to cross the minds of, or bother, your local pastizzi buyer. We’re happy to buy a couple of our favourite greasy snacks from a seller sporting an equally greasy t-shirt dotted with stains that are clearly a few days old. Admittedly this is entirely baffling to the newcomer or visitor to Malta, who, keen to try out this local delicacy (if you will), has to get his head around this odd set-up. Perhaps that’s why the bald guy on the street corner is doing exceptionally well among the tourists…?

Say what?

We’re not being rude, but when ordering 500g of cheddar at the cheese counter or asking the greengrocer for six apples, we would never ask, and rather state that we be given our requested goods. For a person who is used to saying “Can I have 250g of sundried tomatoes, please?” to hearing the equivalent of “Give me two loaves of Maltese bread”, this may sound odd, and admittedly, confusing, because a foreigner can never really know if we are making statements or asking questions. However, perhaps unsurprisingly, it would be equally odd for your grocer to hear you asking if he could give you some sprigs of parsley. So don’t be shy, next time you want a tub of stuffed olives, don’t ask, just state!

I’ll only be a few minutes

Some people’s craving for a greasy snack not only appears to blind them from being sensitive to the lack of hygienic precautions, but it also seems to block out all sense of reasoning and sensitivity to others. It is not uncommon for the Maltese to park his car on the pavement, or practically in the middle of the road ,while he picks up his ration of grease for the week, or day.

Tongue tied

They say that we experience the world differently depending on the language we speak. And those of us who speak more than one language will understand how, sometimes, there just is no other word to express what you want to say than the word in one particular language you know. Perhaps the Maltese have taken this too far and many populate every other sentence they say in English with a Maltese expression of emotion such as illallu (ill-ah-loo; oh my goodness), or mela (meh-la; so), ara (are-a; oh, or well) and the infamous tail we love to hem our sentences with: ħi

(hee; literally, brother). So, we’ll ask

you, ‘Would you like to try some, ħi?' and when we meet you in the street, we just might nod our heads and say, orrajt? This is a Malteseified version of the English ‘alright’, as in ‘Are you alright?'. But the Maltese orrajt is in a category of its own and can often be answered with another orrajt, perhaps this time with less of a question intonation, as both acquaintances continue with their walk having acknowledged each other in a friendly manner, possibly leaving the nearby foreign passersby perplexed, but the Maltese in the vicinity will probably barely have batted an eyelid at this common but endearing form of greeting.

Have a seat

You will be forgiven for doing a double take while walking or driving through a Maltese street on seeing a person or two sitting happily on the pavement, if there is one, or simply on the road, outside the front door of their house. Practitioners of this very idiosyncratic Maltese pastime tend to fall into the senior age bracket and while it is admittedly an odd sight at first, it is surely one of our endearing habits, possibly a reflection of our friendly nature, and yes, perhaps also our more curious habits of wanting to know and see what others around us are up to. In the summer months, when this is more common, one of the reasons is also an opportunity for people to sit in perhaps a cooler area than their hot living rooms or kitchens.

Admittedly, when one thinks of Maltese fashion, one does not think of a particular defining outfit or accessory. Yet if we were to look back at the evolution of Maltese fashion, a number of characteristically Maltese styles

emerge of which, interestingly, some are resurfacing in contemporary design.

An 18th century list of words used to describe Maltese fashion is a good clue to the various influences on the clothes we wore in the past. Among these are words of semitic origin, such as qmis for men, which means shirt, and misluta for women, which means necklace. Other words include those of Italian origin such as kalzetti (socks) and brazzoletti (bracelets). The very mix of Semitic and Romantic words reflects a fashion scene in transition.

There is scanty information on what the Maltese wore up to and including the 16th century. However travellers’ accounts note how Maltese women went out veiled. Reports document how the clothes were not that appealing and that the women went out all covered, heads down, possibly because it was seen to be shameful to be out on the streets.

Indeed the typical image of Maltese women in the past features the Faldetta, or Għonnella (pronounced awe-nella). This was a form of head dress, or hooded cloak worn by virtually all Maltese women and has origins that date all the way back to the 13th century. It continued to be worn right through to the 20th century, though, around the 1940's it rapidly fell into disuse and had disappeared entirely by the end of the same century.

There is literature that shows that in, the 17th century, men too wore a cloak with a hood attached to it. This had been introduced by the Arabs. The lower classes hardly wore shoes although there is some reference to the Maltese occasionally wearing a kind of leather sandal. In sum, the key word here was 'changelessness' as innovation of any sort was heavily criticised!

It is interesting to look behind the seams, if you’ll forgive the pun, to see the craftspeople behind the clothes. The Marquis Nicholas de Piro researched the bills of an 18th century tailor named Michelangelo Mallia, which reveal interesting information about the man and his trade, namely one that relied greatly on others who delivered the tools of his craft: needs, buttons, buckles, boots and, of course, material. Among a list of wares made for a client of his there includes: breeches, jackets, a silk damask dressing gown, a velvet collar, a soutane and various pieces of lace, probably for cuffs and jabots. For women, a list of items bought by a certain Eugenia de Piro, as evidenced from a number of bills she used to send her brother, offers some insight into the fashion of the day. This includes whalebone stiffeners, silk spools, a bodice, ribbons in yellow Florence silk, blue corduroy and a dress in flower printed musk material.

By the mid 19th century things began to change and the Maltese became more Europeanised, their fashion reflecting that of what was being worn in England, and then Italy, France and later, America. (Guze Cassar Pullicino)

A word must be said about Malta lace bizzilla in Maltese one of the defining and idiosyncratic characteristics of Maltese fashion and national heritage. Lacemaking dates back to at least

the 16th century, although Pat Earnshaw notes how there exist prehistoric ‘fossils’ of lace techniques that date back to 4,000 BC where bobbin laces, caps and hair nets were made of looped stitches that bear an uncanny resemblance to the buttonhole stitch. Fast forward to the 18th century, by which time lace had become a well-established industry and was popularly used as a means of decoration or adornment.

The perennial problem with lace is that it takes a long time to make, and is expensive. Indeed a fine piece of lace was often created as a family project with each member working on his or her section. When we think of Malta lace, our thoughts often go straight to Gozo lace. This is because it was looked upon as an important source of income by the Gozitan people and, although the tradition has diminished in Malta, it lives on stronger in Gozo.

Consiglia Azzopardi reports how elderly Gozitan lacemakers often recount how, when they were young they would sit at their lace pillow in time for the first early morning mass at ‘Pater Noster’ at about four o’clock in the morning. After mass they would get back to their chores, one of which included lacemaking.

Today, as with the rest of the world, Maltese fashion has become very internationalised and it is practically impossible to recognise a Maltese person by their attire alone. However, there is a slow but steady rise by local fashion designers drawing from typically Maltese features be they the Maltese lace motif in Saz Mifsud’s special ‘Scarves for Pink October’ range, or Charles and Ron’s luzzu motif in their spring/summer 2016 collection.

Air Malta will start scheduled services between Malta and Palermo as from 4th July. These flights will operate in addition to

the 13 weekly flights between Malta and Catania/Sicily, and reinforce the airline’s leading position between Italy and Malta. Air Malta gives the best choice for travellers from both Italy and Malta, with 34 weekly flights and the highest number of frequencies per destination compared to any other carrier.

'This is more good news for our customers,' said Ursula Silling, Air Malta’s Chief Commercial Officer. 'We are thrilled to launch new flights to/from Palermo’s Falcone-Borsellino airport and thus offer 15 weekly flights between Sicily and Malta. With over 2,700 years of history, the Sicilian capital has a lot to offer', continued Ms Silling.

The Maltese National Airline will operate two weekly flights to/from Palermo every

Monday and Thursday, and will retain the route throughout winter.

'Our new flights will offer connectivity between Malta and the western part of Sicily. Palermo is the island’s cultural, political and touristic capital and we expect to carry around 20,000 passengers in the first year of operation. As part of our constant schedule improvements, we have also retimed some of our Catania flights to offer better connectivity with our services to major European cities. These initiatives are expected to facilitate business opportunities between the two islands,' added Ms Silling.

in Italy, Palermo attracts tourists with its Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque buildings.

Its historic medieval old town is very popular with tourists, including Cappella Palatina, a small chapel hidden within the Palazzo dei Normanni. This palace is renowned for its wealth of outstanding mosaics that bejewel the walls of its interior. Also popular are the city’s landmark square of Quattro Canti and the tiny chapel of San Cataldo, which has three miniature domes and Arabic inscriptions on its columns. This overlooks Palermo’s famous ‘Fountain of Shame’. Just outside of Palermo is the Cathedral of Monreale, one of Sicily’s most beautiful buildings, whose interior is lined with shimmering golden Byzantine mosaics while its cloister columns are twisted with vivid zig-zags of Moorish inlay.

Palermo’s strength is in its beauty and civilisation, which are reflected through the local markets and unique beaches with crystalline waters and sandy stretches.

For those who prefer the lure of shopping one should visit the haute couture streets of Via Maqueda, Via Ruggero Settimo and Via della Liberta. For those who love bargain hunting and traditional crafts, earthen ware, wrought iron and carved wood, shops in Via Bara, Via Orologia and Vittorio Emanuele are recommended.

Between purchases in either the back streets or the wide boulevards, there is plenty of opportunity to stop for a quick snack of fried aubergines or hefty pizza slices prepared by street vendors. For those who have more time to spare, a stop at the more formal restaurants to savour Sicily’s excellent cuisine is a must.

O ne hundred and forty passengers travelling on Air Malta’s two-hour charter flight to Ibiza on Thursday 21st July will be treated to the exclusive experience of a 'Party in the Sky'.

The special flight, chartered by Events by Martin, Malta’s high-end events promoter, will see DJ Ruby and Daniel Pereaux spinning the decks at 39,000 feet. Apart from the custom-made sound system that will be installed on-board by Best Team Audio, Nexos will provide special light visuals. Right from check-in guests will get a full VIP treatment and will be treated with to a special inflight service.

The organisation of this flight, as requested by the organisers, presented an operational challenge to the airline. T he Malta Tourism Authority was honoured to be the recipient of a bronze award for ‘Best Overseas

Convention Bureau’ in the UK at the annual M&IT Magazine Awards, which took place in London recently. The Meetings & Incentive Travel awards are the most established awards ceremony and the biggest night of the year for this niche, bringing together all sectors of the industry to recognise excellence of service.

This year, the prestigious event was attended by more than 1,200 industry professionals and hosted by BBC presenter Kate Silverton at Battersea Evolution. Malta faced some stiff competition on the night with The Hague taking the gold award and Rotterdam coming in second place.

AIR MALTA CREW BID FAREWELL TO LONG SERVING COLLEAGUES

Inflight managers Silvio Cassar and Paul Mifsud were given an affectionate farewell by their cabin crew colleagues on their last flights after a 40 year flying

career. During these years with Air Malta they have each flown over 30,000 flying hours and over 26 million kilometres.

Both recounted how in 1976, when they joined the airline, Air Malta was in its infancy having just two leased Boeing 720s. At that time Air Malta was recruiting and such jobs opened up a world of opportunities to young Maltese wishing a career in aviation.

“To this day I never regretted that decision. This job gave me the opportunity

to see the world”, said Silvio when contacted. He added that together with this colleagues he used to plan and advise each other where to go, where to stay and how to get to destinations like Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore and Brazil which at the time were not the destinations one travelled to for holidays. “I travelled to the Far East, North and South America, North Africa and of course many places all over Europe. But if you ask me for my favourite destination it will have to be South Africa. We drove from Cape Town to Johannesburg. Everyday brought new experiences, from breath taking views along the garden route to the wild animals. One can see all of the big five game animals in their natural habitat besides

whale watching and cage diving with the great white sharks” he added.

“This job gave me a lot. It was never like work and I wouldn’t have changed it for any other”, added Paul. Recounting the time when around 15 years ago Air Malta used to operate flights to Dubai, Paul added, “Having an architectural interest I was fascinated by the building projects in Dubai. I saw the city being born and even acquired had permission to visit some building sites at that time. It was a fascinating experience working for Air Malta”, he added.

Air Malta wishes Silvio and Paul a happy retirement.

WIZ KHALIFA TO TAKE THE STAGE ATISLE OF MTV MALTA

Multi-platinum selling rapper Wiz Khalifa has been confirmed to perform at Isle of MTV Malta, which will this year be celebrating the 10th anniversary of this open-air concert. The free live music event, a

partnership between MTV and the Malta Tourism Authority, will return to Il-Fosos Square on Tuesday 28th June 2016.

“The summer starts June 28th, so make sure you're here at the Isle of MTV in Malta, you dig! It's gonna be a hot one!” Wiz Khalifa.

Rolling Stone magazine’s 2006 ‘Artist to watch’, Khalifa shot to international fame in 2011 with his debut album ‘Rolling Papers’, which included hit singles ‘Roll Up’, ‘No Sleep’ and ‘Black and Yellow’; the latter peaked at Number One on the US Billboard Hot 100 and entered the Top 10 of the UK singles chart. Wiz’s biggest hit to-date, the 2015 global smash ‘See You Again’, was the lead single from the Furious 7 soundtrack and a tribute to the late actor Paul Walker. The single peaked at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 consecutive weeks,

and hit the top spot on charts across 95 countries. The song broke several records, including most streamed track in a single day on Spotify and was nominated for three Grammy Awards. His latest studio album is planned for release this summer.

Isle of MTV Malta will be filmed and edited into a 60-minute special that will be broadcast across 20 MTV channels throughout Europe. The show will also be supported across all MTV social media platforms as well as via a bespoke website. As part of an extensive integrated marketing campaign, the Isle of MTV Malta concert will be supported by marketing initiatives, all of which will drive awareness of the event, as well as leverage MTV’s world-renowned brand and unique youth insight, to further cement and promote Malta’s position as a holiday destination for young people. Over the nine years that Isle of MTV has been held in Malta, the number of visitors to the island under the age of 24 has increased by 120 per cent and now account for 20 per cent of all tourists.

Every flight is a new challenge, working at different hours, with different crew, different passengers and a different destination. That is precisely what makes our job interesting. Each day is a new adventure and a new challenge.

What is the biggest challenge when working with Air Malta?

The biggest challenge is definitely the long and odd hours of work. Early mornings are never easy, and I don’t mean waking up at 06.30am for a typical day of work at the office, I mean waking up at 3amor 4am in the morning to shower, do your make-up and set your hair. Sometimes, on a night standby, you may be woken up by a phone call from crew despatch only to be told to be at the airport, dressed with full make-up and ready to operate a flight in a short amount of time. This means that you can forget staying up late or going out the night before. Besides early mornings and unexpected calls, night flights are never easy and disrupt your circadian rhythm for the days that follow. Despite the tiring days and nights working at 35,000 feet, I enjoy flying and I do it with pride, knowing that, whilst I am wearing the Air Malta uniform, I am representing my national airline. As an ambassador of Malta, I offer the diverse Maltese product and service and the unique hospitality of the people of Malta. The long flights and odd hours are part of the challenges and experience of working as a flight attendant for one of the world’s leading airline brands.

Do you have any hobbies?

I enjoy reading, going for a run or painting in my free time. I also enjoy watching movies with my little sister. In summer, I spend most of my free time swimming and soaking up the sun on the beautiful Maltese beaches.

Which is your favourite destination and why?

My favourite destination is Frankfurt. The reason is because of the beautiful view of the Alps we see from the aircraft windows whilst doing the cabin service. The view of the Alps covered in white snow is a view I truly appreciate, as it is not a common sight for us Maltese.

What are your favourite spots or tips for anyone visiting Malta?

Take some time to learn about our rich history, starting from the Megalithic temples of the oldest free-standing structures on Earth, the Hypogeum in Ħal Saflieni - the only known prehistoric underground temple in the world and, of course, our capital city, Valletta, built by the Knights of St John and named after it’s commissioner Grand master Jean Parisot de la Valette. For something more relaxing, make sure to visit our sister islands Gozo and Comino. Enjoy a day at one of our beaches, such as Golden Bay in Mellieha. Above all, we are confident that you will enjoy your stay in Malta for the renowned Maltese hospitality and cuisine. Typical dishes include fresh local fish, beef olives, ross il-

forn, mqarrun il-forn, mqaret, accompanied by one of our local wines or beers.

How long have you been working with Air Malta?

I have now been working as cabin crew with Air Malta for almost a year-and-a-half but my love for the job and the airline go way back to when I was a little girl. Some of my fondest memories are the anticipation and excitement of waiting for my father, who is now an In-flight Manager, at the airport arrivals gate to come home after a flight. I grew up learning about aviation and took on the love for the job from my father.

What three words describe your job best?

Unique

Our job is unique – we are trained to ensure a safe and pleasant journey for our customers. Our training programme consists of safety and emergency procedures, first aid, customer care, grooming and deportment. We deliver excellent customer service to passengers while ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the flight. Our job is to enhance the passenger experience altogether.

Safety-oriented

We are primarily safety officers, our job is to ensure passenger safety before anything else. We might irritate passengers asking for their boarding cards or asking passengers to remove their bags from emergency exit rows, but everything we do is for safety and security reasons.

ALCOHOL CONSUMPTIONAlcohol consumed at high altitude can have a stronger effect than usual. Cabin crew are legally empowered to refuse serving any alcohol to an intoxicated passenger and to anyone under the age of 18. In extreme cases, crew may also temporarily confiscate the passenger‘s own drinks so that the passenger would not become a nuisance to the other passengers and crew. Furthermore, Air Malta is bound by international regulations which prohibit embarkation or the carriage of drunken passengers. But once you are reading this article, Air Malta‘s Flight Safety Committee is confident that you are a law-abiding and exemplary passenger. Indeed, the cabin crew may need your assistance to restrain another passenger in the unlikely event that he or she may act irresponsibly during the flight. The consumption of one’s own alcoholic beverages inflight goes against Air Malta policy.

SMOKINGSmoking is prohibited from when you leave the terminal building until you arrive to the terminal building. Smoking is allowed in designated areas only. Smoking is not allowed during any phase of the flight and in any area of the aircraft. TR ANSMITTING PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICES (PEDS)Any devices that can send or receive data by wireless means, such as mobile-phones and tablets, may be used during all phases of the flight provided their transmit/receive capabilities (e.g. Bluetooth and Wi-fi) are switched off. Blue HoleKnown to many as the most distinctive landmark on the

Western coastline, the true beauty of the Azure Window

reveals itself to scuba divers below the surface. Its entrance

forms the “Blue Hole”, which ranks among the most famous

dive sites in the Mediterranean. The sunlit upper walls are

rutted and covered by flat sponges and even some yellow stony cup corals (Astroides calycularis). A spacious cavern

on the back of the Blue Hole is a place worth discovering

towards the end of the dive. Past the impressive arch which

opens towards the sea at about 8 metres depth, divers have a

choice of spectacular attractions. Dwejra, where this dive site

is located, is itself a place of inspiring natural beauty, to be

enjoyed by all.
