Science Activity:

For today’s afternoon activity, I would like you to do a little bit of research on food chains. To start, I would like you to complete the 2do on Purple Mash involving grouping animals. You have to sort the animals into their three food groups – herbivores, omnivores or carnivores. I hope you have remembered this from our lessons in school! Then I would like you to learn all about the different parts of a food chain using this link to help you. The video will go through what producers, consumers and predators are. Underneath the video are some diagrams that help to. Note which way the arrow points. It points to show where the energy is going. It is helpful to think that the arrow means ‘is eaten by’. After you have spent some time familiarising yourself with food chains, I would like you to complete two tasks – 1) Complete the Savannah foodchain challenge from the BBC2) Complete the food chain 2do onPurple Mash.

PE Activity: https://www.yewtree.tgacademy.org.uk/curriculum/sports-and-after-school-clubs/ Day 11 challenge. K – Kurling (New Age) Table Kurling Challenge

This afternoon, I would like you to design your very own zoo! 1) For the first task on Page 10 you willneed to work out how much each itemcosts, by working out the area of theitem, and then multiplying it by 10 toget the cost.2) Then you will start to plan whatitems you would like in your zoo. Usethe costs from Task 1 to make sure youdon’t spend over your budget of £3000(page 11).3) I would like you to draw your zooonce you have planned out yourspending.4) Use page 12 to advertise your zoo.Remember to be persuasive. You wantpeople to visit it!I can’t wait to see what designs youcome up with. I would definitelyinclude flamingos in my zoo! I’d alsoincluded elephants! It’s up to you what animals youchoose to put in your zoo!

Following on from the Newsround article you should have read this morning, I would like you to watch this clip of the New Zealand Rugby team preforming their ceremonial dance – the Haka. It is performed with vigorous movements and stamping of the feet with rhythmically shouted accompaniment to intimidate and scare their opponents. Each of the moves, are symbolic, meaning different things. Task: For this lesson, I would like you to do either of the following: 1) Create a dance routineinspired by the Haka. Thepurpose of this dance routinemust be intimidation. You aretrying to scare your opponents.Think about what each movecould represent.2) Learn the Haka. Follow thislink for a step-by-step tutorialshowing how to perform theHaka.Let me know how you get on byblogging on Purple Mash.

PE 2nd Activity: https://www.yewtree.tgacademy.org.uk/curriculum/sports-and-after-school-clubs/ Day 13 challenge. M – Multi-Skills 60 Second Challenges.

Core British Values:

Tomorrow marks the 75th Anniversary of VE day. He current situation means that we cannot commemorate this event in the way we would have done at school, but you can still learn about it and celebrate it at home. VE day marks a historical event in our past. You could find out about VE day with you family and explore how people have celebrated VE day in the past. Here is a link to an informative KS2 video on the subject of VE. Here are some craft ideas below that you could complete to decorate your homes to celebrate the events of our history. 1) Could you throw a VE dayparty for your family inside yourhouse? Decorate the rooms withunion jack bunting. Perhaps youcould even bake a Victoria Spongecake for the party.2) Could you create some wartimeremembrance poppies to displayon your windows for others tosee? Are there any other crafts that youcould do? See here.

Quick factsDiet: Omnivore

Life span in the wild: 12 – 14 years

Size: 25 – 30 cm

Weight: Less than 1 kg

Group name: Mob or gang

Status: Least concern

Meerkats (Suricata suricatta) are very social animals and live in groups called mobs or

gangs. They live in underground burrows in the Kalahari Desert and parts of South

Africa. Their curved claws are used for digging and foraging for insects. They can close

their ears to keep out the dust when they are burrowing.

Meerkats eat insects such as scorpions, beetles, centipedes, spiders, and worms. They

also eat birds, lizards and fruit.

Meerkats search for food in groups. Some members will guard the entrance of the

burrow, keeping a look out for predators such as eagles and falcons. If a meerkat spots

trouble, they will bark and whistle loudly to alert the other members of the group.

Female meerkats give birth to a litter of one to five pups. They are born hairless and

cannot see or hear for at least 15 days. Other members of the group will take turns

baby-sitting the pups so the mother can forage for insects. When the pups are 3 weeks

old they can leave the underground burrow.
