Musings for the Month

Make the Earth Green Forests are where animals breed! But trees are all gone because of greed! We must still do something, To make the Earth the King, Make it Green, Make it Clean, Live a beautiful life And not spoil the Earth with the pollution.

-By Trisha Jangra Class-II

Environment I wish to spend day and night in the playground With clean air all round, It is magical even in rain and shine Not wanting to go we all whine, Imagine riding the mighty wings With cool breeze flowing through my hands, What if our playground was a big old jungle With lions and monkeys causing rumble! All these animals are slowly getting extinct It makes my heart sink, Trees are crying year upon year No one sees their tears, Next time before cutting a tree Think of the Mother Earth and what we can do.

TOWARDS A GREENER WORLD

Rohit was a very active and sincere student. He was an

ardent reader and loved reading books of different

genres. Once, on a scorching day, he was busy reading

his favourite Ruskin Bond book, when the electricity

went off. It became extremely hot inside so he decided to

go out and enjoy some fresh air. But to his

disappointment, he found the weather equally bad

outside. He wandered on the blazing roads and was

sweating like a pig. He got so exhausted that he was about to faint. Suddenly his eyes

caught something unexpected. He saw a barren land with absolutely no life and

vegetation. He felt bad and thought of taking some action. He gathered energy and

ran towards home. He asked his mom to give him the seeds they had bought for their

garden. He slipped the seeds in his pocket, filled a water can and ran towards the

barren land. With a lot of hope on his face, he dug few points and sowed the seeds.

Then he watered the seeds and went back home. He made it a routine to water the

seeds everyday and looked at the beds for hours. His hard work paid off and the

seeds started sprouting. His joy found no boundaries and he called his parents and

friends to show what he had done. Everyone was overwhelmed to see the

transformation Rohit had brought to that barren land. He was not only appreciated

for his hard work and dedication but also awarded with “The Best Resident’ award

by the local authorities. His parents were proud of him and often accompanied him

to water the plants.

LET US BE MORE RESPONSIBLE

Action springs not from a thought but from a readiness for

responsibility.—GM Trevelyan

Our school is our second home. This is where we as students spend many hours acquiring knowledge which prepares us for our future responsibilities in life. Hence it is our collective responsibility to contribute to the school by taking care of small

things. This does not require much of our time. All that is to be done is to show our readiness to be responsible. 1. Switch off electrical appliances such as fans and lights while going out of

classrooms.. 2. Clean your class white board before leaving the room. 3. Keep your surroundings clean and tidy, with the help of sweepers and cleaners. 4. Give your class newspapers back to the library, after the day is over. 5. Arrange your class library. 6. Close the taps of washroom and water coolers when not in use. 7. Try not to speak loudly so that the other classes do not feel disturbed. 8. Take part in campaigns and drives to spread awareness about our natural

resources and ways to conserve them. 9. Separate wet waste from dry waste by putting them in separate dustbins. 10. Save paper by reusing them. Wherever possible write with a pencil, so that it

can be used later on. 11. Use lead pencils rather than wooden one, in order to save wood which is

obtained from trees. 13. Polished surfaces could be used for writing purposes, which can later be erased

and reused, thus contributing to less usage of paper. 14. Put on the same articles on display board that were made by you last year and

continue it, in order to save paper and time. The same can be done with the borders.

15. Pour water in plants grown in the crop cafeteria rather than in the water cooler, before filling fresh cold water during summers.

16. Make something creative out of the waste procured from school institution and use it for the betterment of the nation.

The Cry of a Bird Amidst the nature’s bounty, A bird cries in vain. Amidst the nature’s beauty, A bird says in pain. Where are my ancestral woods? Where is my land? Where are those inhumane crooks? Who detached me from the earthy band? Where are those heated disquisitions? Which promised a green transition? Where are those stringent laws? I suspect they were full of flaws. Where are those pseudo Samaritans? Who avowed to be moralists? Where are those earnest politicians? Who claimed to be evangelists? They have a minimalist perception Or they are too instrumental. In this world full of deception, I do not consider them transcendental. For global warming is a business, For glaciers melt seasonally. For a rhetoric called cleanliness, Comes and goes away occasionally. I’m engulfed by protocols, I’m surrounded by slogans. But I’m not appeased by protocols, I’m not appeased by slogans. I seek refuge in nature’s lap, I feel secure in my nest. For this earth has a dumping gap, For the resources which were considered best. In my last hours of life I saw a loving child My chirpings said in grief You have made my today You have made my tomorrow But remember at every morrow You have a gloomy day You have a mortal tomorrow.

Trees One day I dreamt,

that people made an attempt

to cut the trees,

which are home to bees.

I saw a woodcutter,

who smiled and raised his head

‘cut the trees’ that was all he said.

I could see the felling of trees

mindlessly increase.

I saw the helpless birds from my eye

as they flew up high into the sky.

Before I could speak,

the branches of the trees would creak.

This scene filled me with grief,

and it was out of belief

then on the bed besides my head.

I saw a leaf from a tree

I kept it with me

as a gift of the tree

whenever this thought

comes to my brain,

it helps me dream

the trees again.

the little leaf

which lay in grief

and laid whispered in my ear

why don’t they let you and me be free?
