Trick or treating…Pumpkins…Apple Bobbing…Sweets outside the house…Dressing up…
Halloween means All Hallow Eve.All Saints Day is 1st November. The time of year when the saints and
ghosts are most active. Religious holiday but nowadays it
has become a bit of fun.
At night, children dress up in scary costumes and they go around their neighbourhood and knock on doors and say ‘Trick or Treat?’
The people either give them a treat or ask for a trick.
The people sometimes dress up as well and try to scare the children.
Sweets are sometimes left outside the house as a peace offering to the evil spirits.
People carve faces into pumpkins. They are placed outside their house
to scare away evil spirits. The candle inside the pumpkin is to
show the power of light over darkness.
These are the pumpkins from my house last year. My mum made them. Do you like them?
A traditional game is to play Apple Bobbing.
We fill a bowl with water and put apples inside.
The player has to try and pick up an apple without using their hands.
It’s very difficult and messy… but it’s great fun!
Children and adults dress up in scary costumes.
Traditionally, people used to dress up to disguise themselves from
evil spirits as this day was when they used to return to earth.
