Несамостоятельные глаголы, выполняют функцию вспомогательных, присоединяют

частицу not

Вопросы строятся по инверсии (модальные глаголы) (Can I help you?)

После модальных глаголов – инфинитив без to

Ability (умение) – to be able to, can

Possibility (возможность) - can, could,

may, might

Permission (разрешение) – can, may

Request (просьба) – can/could,

will/would, may/might

Obligation (обязательство) – have to,

must

must – необходимость сделать что-то

have to – обязательство извне (вынужден)

mustn’t - строгий запрет («нельзя»)

Don’t have to – нет необходимости

1. Nurses have to wear a uniform.

2. It’s raining. I must take an umbrella.

3. You mustn’t smoke here – it’s prohibited.

4. You don’t have to do the ironing – I did it yesterday.
