    The Global Compact was first announced by the thenUNSecretary-General Kofi Annan in an address to The WorldEconomic Forum on January 31, 1999, and was officiallylaunched at UN Headquarters in New York on July 26,2000.

    Businessesshould support and respect the protection ofinternationally proclaimed human rights; and

    There are eight goals with 21 targets, and a series of measurable indicators foreach target.

    Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

    Target 1A:

    Halve the proportion of people living on less than $1 a day Target 1B:

    Achieve Decent Employment for Women, Men, and Young People

    Halve the proportion of people who suffer from hunger
