from GHRCE ,Nagpur. The lecture was on Super
capacitors. He told the students about the use of
super capacitors in electric vehicles. A
supercapacitor (SC) (sometimes ultra capacitor,
formerly electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC)) is
a high-capacity electrochemical capacitor with
capacitance values much higher than other
capacitors (but lower voltage limits) that bridge the
gap between electrolytic capacitors and rechargeable
batteries. They typically store 10 to 100 times more
energy per unit volume or mass than electrolytic
capacitors, can accept and deliver charge much
faster than batteries, and tolerate many more charge
and discharge cycles than rechargeable batteries.
They are however 10 times larger than conventional
batteries for a given charge.

Industry Visit to HVDC Terminal,
Chandrapur organized by Electrical
Engg. Dept, GHRCE, Nagpur
The Visit at HVDC (High Voltage Direct
Current) Terminal, Chandraper is arranged on 6th
Feb 2016 for Electrical Department VIth A students.
Two groups of students had been formed (35 and 34
students) .The visit were conducted in three stages
for each group as follows.
1st
stage is of Power point presentation and
overview of prototype of the HVDC Terminal in
the office building, in order to get idea about overall
functionality of the HVDC Terminal. 2nd
stage is of
outdoor visit where AC input side and DC output
side is introduced to students. In the AC side, input
power at 400Kv barrows from supper thermal
power plant, Chandrapur situated near to the
HVDC terminal. Power at 400Kv step up to 500Kv
and give to Plant. DC output side is located at other
side of plant. DC voltage of +500Kv and -500Kv
with respect to ground is generated and feeds to
transmission line. Transmission line carries 1500 M
watt power. 750A current in each transmission line
is flow and 3-10A (ideally 0A) differential current
flows through ground.
3rd
is of indoor visit where large thyristor
bank uses for rectifying the AC to DC with filter to
smoothen rectify output. In each panel 96 thyristor
each of 5KV is uses. Plant has two output terminals
of 500Kv and -500Kv.
