predominantly deals with design, simulation and

fabrication of these tiny devices. He has previously

held faculty positions in a State Government

Kesari from VNIT Nagpur. The lecture was on

power electronics. He told the students about the use

of power electronics in electric drives. Power

electronics is the application of solid-state

electronics to the control and conversion of electric

power. It also refers to a subject of research in

electronic and electrical engineering which deals

with the design, control, computation and integration

of nonlinear, time-varying energy-processing

electronic systems with fast dynamics.

students. The guest lecture was by Dr. S.G Tarnekar

from GHRCE ,Nagpur. The lecture was on Super

capacitors. He told the students about the use of

super capacitors in electric vehicles. A

supercapacitor (SC) (sometimes ultra capacitor,

formerly electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC)) is

a high-capacity electrochemical capacitor with

capacitance values much higher than other

capacitors (but lower voltage limits) that bridge the

gap between electrolytic capacitors and rechargeable

batteries. They typically store 10 to 100 times more

energy per unit volume or mass than electrolytic

capacitors, can accept and deliver charge much

faster than batteries, and tolerate many more charge

and discharge cycles than rechargeable batteries.

They are however 10 times larger than conventional

batteries for a given charge.
