Vision and Mission of the Mechanical Engineering Department

Our Vision

To be recognized internationally for quality education and research in Mechanical Engineering

with excellence in fields of design, manufacturing and thermal sciences.

Our Mission

To prepare professionally competent and broadly educated mechanical engineers by developing

analytical and research abilities, encouraging culture of continuous learning and by adopting new

technologies to solve complex problems.

Programme Educational Objectives of Department (PEOs)

The educational objectives of the Mechanical Engineering programme are designed to produce

competent engineers who are ready to contribute effectively to the advancement of Mechanical

Engineering causes and to accommodate the needs of the profession. The Mechanical

Engineering Department is dedicated to graduating mechanical engineers who:

1. Shall practice Mechanical Engineering in the general disciplines of design, thermal and

manufacturing engineering in industry and establishments in government and private

sectors.

2. Shall apply fundamental technical knowledge and skills to find workable solutions to

technological challenges and problems in various areas of Mechanical Engineering.







3. Shall pursue advanced education, research and development, and other creative efforts in

science and technology.

4. Shall conduct themselves in a responsible, professional and ethical manner for the benefit

of the industry and society.

Programme Outcomes (POs)

1. Acquire knowledge in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering, apply fundamentals of

mathematics, engineering and sciences and apply technologies to solve real problems in

inter and cross disciplinary areas.

2. Search out relevant technical information, use analytical tools to formulate problems

and identify workable solutions.

3. Design mechanical systems, components, or processes to meet their performance needs

from considerations of public health and safety as well as cultural, societal, and

environmental issues.

4. Engage in R & D pursuits, set up and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret the

data using tools, techniques and instrumentation in mechanical engineering and

interdisciplinary area.

5. Identify, formulate and solve mechanical engineering using modern design and

manufacturing approaches and the computational and software tools.

6. Understand the responsibilities associated with the use of engineering and technology

practices on societal issues of concern in respects of health, safety, legal and culture.

7. Understand contemporary issues in sustainable development and in providing

technology solutions considering impact of economic, social, political, environmental

and global issues.

8. Understand ethical and professional issues and responsibilities in engineering practice,

the creative enterprise, loyalty and commitment.

9. Communicate effectively in written, oral and graphical forms, provide instructions and

present the results in a professional manner.

10. Possess knowledge of management principles, materials, processes and systems-

working to function effectively as a member of team in products manufacturing and

projects execution in multidisciplinary environments.

Engineering organizes a installation

programme of office bearers of Solar Energy

Society of India (SESI) on 20-09-2014

(Saturday). Mr. Ashish Bhagat was elected

as a President, Mr. Prasad Wakhare as a

Vice president, Mr. Sachin Tonge as a

secretary, Mr. Aditya Khune as joint

secretary and Mr. Bablu kumar as a

treasurer.

Guest for the programme was Dr. D. J.

Tidke and Dr. V. M. Kriplani, Professor in

Mechanical Engineering Department. Dr. P.

V. Walke, Head Mechanical Engineering

Department, guided the students about the

importance of SESI and activities to be

conducted in the department under the

banner of SESI. All students’ members of

SESI and faculty members of Mechanical

Engineering Department were present in the

programme. Mr. Abhishek Raj anchors the

programme and proposed a vote of thanks.

A guest lecture was organized by the

rd semester M.Tech

CAD/CAM.

Mr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty is a

Mechanical Engineer completed his

education in environment management

system (EI&EA) at IIT-Kanpur & certified

trainer on TQM from JURAN Institute

USA, was invited for delivering the lecture.

He spoke on gemba, kaizen, just in time &

Toyota production system. He has taken

specialize training at USA, Japan, France,

UK, Austria and worked with SAIL, Mittal’s

Ispat Group in India, Philippines.

Now a day implementation of quality

control is very important in industry. He

guided the students about quality

management, quality circle. He discussed

the role of quality in day to day life.

Guest Lecture on “Uncertainty

Analysis of Thermal Equipment”

The department of Mechanical

Engineering of G. H. Raisoni College of

Engineering, Nagpur has organized a

“Uncertainty analysis of Thermal

Equipment” on 19/09/2014.Guest Lecture

was mainly aimed at upgrading the

knowledge on uncertainty measurement in

thermal equipment. Students from M. Tech.

1st and 3

rd semester (Heat Power

Engineering) were present. This topic was

related with Thermal system design course

and also helpful for carrying their research

work.

The guest lecture was delivered by.

Prof. N. K. Manadavgade Assistant

Professor, Priyadarshani college of

Engineering Nagpur.

He explained various types of

uncertainty sources and its impertinence in

thermal measurement. Also demonstrate

case on uncertainty calculation for thermal

equipment. The guest lecture was co-

ordinate by Prof. V. W. Khond, Assistant

Professor in Mechanical Engineering

Guest Lecture on “Emission

measurement Technique”



Engineering, Nagpur has organized an

“Emission measurement Technique” on

27/08/2014.







Guest Lecture was mainly aimed at

upgrading the knowledge on present

emission norms and development in

emission measuring equipment. Students

from M.Tech 1st and 3

rd semester (Heat

Power Engineering) were present. This topic

is related with Thermal Engg-1 and Design

of IC engine components and systems

course and also helpful for those who are

carrying their research work in internal

combustion engine. The guest lecture was

delivered by Mr. Pratik Janai, Sr. Engineer,

AVL Ltd Pune. He explained various types

of emissions and its measurement. Also give

information about present emission norms

and regulation.

The guest lecture was co-ordinate by

Prof. V. W. Khond, Assistant Professor in

Mechanical Engineering Department. The

credit for the success of guest lecture goes to

CAM students


Engineering has organized the Industrial

visit to Spacewood Furnishers Pvt. Ltd.

Nagpur, on 18th September 2014 for the

students of 1st and 3

rd semester M. Tech.

CAD/CAM. After completing the industrial

visit, students have upgraded their

knowledge at a very great level. It was a

good learning experience. In each & every

department, they got some or the other new

ideas and new thinking about the state-of-art

furniture industry.

Students have visited the

entire process department. They are using

new technologies and other basic

requirements needed for production is

fulfilled very effectively time to time. They

are dedicated to quality &space utilization

aspect. It is desirable to review various







aspects & sum up the industrial visit. During

industrial visit, we feel very much satisfied

by acquiring information of various stages

of production& knowing many new facts.

Students collected all the information related

to process methodologies. The industrial

visit helped to translate theory into practical

and know about the furniture industry. It can

be conclude that while going through the

entire industrial visit, the cooperation is

found to be very well organized developed

& most ideal industry in every walk of its

production, quality & management aspects.

Visit at Star Circlips and Engineering Ltd.,

Nagpur for B.E. Mechanical Engineering

third semester students on 21/09/2014.

Mr.Anand Bajpayee Operation

Manager helped us for organizing this

industrial visit & has given brief information

about the company.

Mr. Nitesh Thawkar (Deputy

Manager Quality Assurance) describes the

processes which have been carried out to

manufacture circlips. He also gave the

information about raw material inventory,

size and specification of raw material. They

are the vendor of few factories in Hingna

MIDC territory.

The students of 3rd

semester section

B along with Prof. A. S. Deshmukh visited

the company at 10.00 AM. Mr. Nitesh

Thawkar has introduced the company at the

start and given the brief information about

the various operations carried out at

company. Then the students entered into

shop floor with Mr. Nitesh Thawkar.

After visiting shop-floor the students

discussed the various topics for their project







with Mr. Nitesh Thawkar and the faculty

members. Mr. Nitesh Thawkar has

suggested the various areas like

Manufacturing, Material handling and

Quality control to students in which they can

Industry Internship at Pix Transmissions

Ltd. Hingna MIDC, Nagpur. For 7th

semester section B, batch no. B-05, dated on

16/09/2014.

During the visit we found that all the

group members of B-05 batch were present

in company and they were studying and

observing various manufacturing processes

which are used for manufacturing of belts

and hoses.

We also discussed with Mr. Abhijit

Ubarhande, HR-Manager, about punctuality

and performance of student and he is

satisfied with student’s performance. He

added that the students are taking interest to

know the practical things in the

manufacturing of belts. He didn’t allow us

for photographs so we couldn’t able to

provide the glimpses of monitoring.

Surprise visit conducted under

Industry Internship at Agrofab Machineries

Pvt. Ltd. Hingna MIDC, Nagpur. For 7th

semester C, batch no. C-13 and C-14, dated

on 16/09/2014.

During the visit we found that all the

group members of C-13 and C-14 batch

were present in company and they were

studying and observing various

manufacturing processes which are used for

manufacturing of tractor assembly parts.

We also discussed with Mr. Parag Honade,

Supervisor, about punctuality and

performance of student and he is satisfied

with student’s performance.

Ltd.

During the surprise visit conducted

on 18/08/2014 at Superior drinks Ltd.,

MIDC, Nagpur, all the allotted members of

B16 and C-17 batches were present in the

company. They were studying and observing

various machining processes of bottle

filling. Prof. V. W. Khond and Prof. V.M.

Wankar discussed with Mr. Anand Tiwari,

plant manager about punctuality and

performance of students. He is satisfied with

student’s performance and given the feed

back in prescribed format.
