Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you had a lovely half term break. The theme for this term is Dinosaurs and Mighty Mountains. Below is a
description of what we will be learning in the subjects and suggestions on how to help children with their learning.
English: Power of Reading Text: Alligators and Crocodiles, Rhythm and Rhyme, Instructions-We will learn that steps
need to be in the correct order and use time connectives. We will be looking at ‘how do to’ books, recipe books,
explanation and procedures. Please encourage your child to look at these types of books at home. After each trip we
will write a recount, step by step, about what we did and saw.
Extended Writing: Instructions and Recount.
Magic Maths Setting Groups: -We will be learning to add and subtract 2 and 3 digit numbers; understanding
measures; fractions, dividing with reminders; rounding numbers up and down: four compass directions and
multiplication.
Science: Rocks and Soils- we will be looking at the purposes, texture and characteristics of rocks. We will be
learning words like erosion, permeability and particles. We will link in the theme of Mountains and Dinosaurs with
these activities.
ICT: Manipulating Sound-To know that ICT can be used to select and control sounds.
PE: Athletics - Invasion games and Swimming.
Geography: We will be learning about different mountains and how they are formed. We will be using geographical
vocabulary and ICT to access information.
Music: Ongoing skills (singing and playing musical games)
RE: Easter Story.
DT: Moving Dinosaur – We will design and make a toy with moving parts.
PSHE: The overall theme is ‘Good to be me.’ The sub-themes include: doing something to be proud of; responding
assertively; helping someone with a worry; stop and think when angry.
MFL: French – Respond to, say greetings in French and All about me.
This term’s trips are not finalised yet, but information will be sent home as soon as they are booked.
A polite reminder: The last day to hand in homework is Wednesday and learning spellings is also part of it! Please
feel free to see me if you have any concerns or need support with your child’s learning.
