What’s HOT November 2017 Events

Run for Ryan 3 Mile Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk!

*** Audit Like a Rock Star ***

President’s Message presented by John Gatto. Registration is open,

so please reserve your spot today.

Registration can be done for the morning,

afternoon, or all day. On November 16th we

will have our first roundtable for the year with

Jason Pello and Jack Pelikan from Caleres and

Ted Flom from Brown Smith as the panel

speakers. The panel will discuss industry

trending topics. This is a free event for our

members and you will receive 1 CPE hour for

attending. See page 2 for further information

about the November events.

Internal Audit is viewed in different ways in

many companies. I like to believe we are the

unsung heroes of our companies, striving to

help in the face of adversity (sometimes) and

make our companies and clients better for our

efforts. For this month’s lyrical offerings, I use

that as my theme:

“Everyday people do everyday things but I

Can't be one of them

I know you hear me now, we are a different

kind

We can do anything

We could be heroes

We could be heroes, me and you

We could be heroes

We could be heroes, me and you

We could be”

- Heroes (we could be) by Alesso

IAEP LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE RECAP

This year’s IAEP Leadership conference took place September 22 – 27, 2017 at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, FL. This year’s theme was “Thinking Forward”. The event was attended by over 89 students from colleges and universities from around the globe including students from England, France, South Africa, Netherlands, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, and Turkey. The event was also attended by faculty, professionals and representatives from IIA local chapter academic relations committees. Students participated in speed networking and had the opportunity to partner with IIA professionals, discuss internal audit career options, network, and compete a case study. Students also participated in group interviews with Deloitte, Gleim, KPMG, Southwest Airlines, The IIA/CIA Learning System, and Vanguard. Academic Chair committee representatives attended break-out discussions to discuss the role of the academic committee, partnerships with colleges and universities, best practices and understanding the marketplace for internal audit, and tools and techniques for academic relations.

Featured from left to right is Tiffany Britt, Academic Relations LA Chapter, Dr. Sandra Shelton of DePaul University, Jerri Carrier, Academic Relations St. Louis Chapter, and Jessie Wu, Academic Relations Winnipeg Chapter.

The Academic Relations Committee has kicked-off another year of planning for the annual student night event in February 2018. If your organization is interested in being a sponsor or recruiter, please reach out to the committee for more information. If you are looking for a way to become more involved with the local chapter, consider volunteering with the academic relations committee.

Please join us for the 5th Annual RUN FOR RYAN 3 Mile Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk supporting the St. Catherine Laboure

(SCL) Stay Strong Fund on Thursday, November 23, 2017. The Run for Ryan was started for a SCL parishioner, Ryan McDaniel,

who was diagnosed with cancer four years ago. Friends and family planned the race to help support the McDaniel Family and the outpouring of love and kindness from the community has been immeasurable. Ryan passed away in May 2015 and

left behind his wife Kim, sons Ayden (13) and Jake (5) and daughter Mallory (12), as well as countless friends and family

members. This is also near and dear to one of our own’s heart, past President, Brian Dobrynski. Kim is Brian’s sister and he would like to personally invite you to this incredible event!

status every month!

Chapter Achievement Program (CAP) CAP is the acronym for Chapter Achievement Program. The program has been established on the premise that the basic mission of the chapter is to serve its members first and then the internal audit profession. The program, sponsored by the International IIA, encourages local chapters to be active both for the benefit of the chapter members and of the local community. Local chapters earn credits for the CAP through in the following categories: a) service to members; b) service to the profession, and c) chapter administration. The Chapter Achievement Program is made up of three performance levels: bronze (685 credits), silver (1,060 credits), and gold (1,560 credits). Thanks to your efforts, our chapter has attained gold status every year since 1997. After ten consecutive years of achieving gold, a chapter achieves Platinum level which this chapter has earned since 2006. So what can a member do to earn CAP points for the chapter? Examples, include:

Attend the monthly chapter meetings; Attend chapter sponsored seminars; Utilize the chapter sponsored Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) review course; Earn an IIA certification; Develop questions for the CIA exam; Recruit new members; Present speeches or training sessions; Write internal audit-related articles for publication; Provide an internal audit internship at your company for a student; and Come up with an innovative way to promote the chapter

So, it's easy to contribute and it doesn't take too much of an effort. You can report CAP activity on the chapter website or directly to the CAP Chairperson Brent Statler at [email protected].
