“The Business of Concert Promotion” Presented by: Chad Cheek, VP Regional Operations, AEG Live Midwest & Events Chad is an industry veteran who worked his way up through the ranks from receptionist at SFX Entertainment fifteen years ago to Vice President of Midwest Operations at AEG Live. His background and training is in theatre administration, however when he moved to St. Louis his career path truly began in the music and entertainment industry. Chad’s jack of all trades nature gave him the ability to experience multiple departments and tackle major projects such as the Super Bowl Halftime Show 2002 in New Orleans featuring U2. From the ground up, Chad moved through various positions and departments and utilized his theatre training to adapt to many situations and eclectic and talented personalities. In 2003, AEG Live opened a regional office in St. Louis. Chad made the move to AEG Live to be a part of building something special. Through AEG Live the opportunity presented itself to work corporate events, concerts and music festivals on a national scale including Grammy parties, Bay to Breakers, Rock on the Range, Super Bowl concert series and Rothbury Music Festival. Jack of all trades is appropriate as he has worked in all facets of the business. His specialty has proven to be communication with various departments and an aptitude towards numbers. His current duties with AEG Live has him intimately involved with three music venues, eight music festivals as well as operations for a region currently producing 800+ concerts and events throughout the year.

This year, the IIA’s Volunteer Kickoff took place on June 18th at Moulin

MaltHouse Cellar. The meeting began with a presentation describing the

theme for the coming IIA year to GET Involved. BE Connected. STAY

Engaged along with some overall goals set by the President, Brian

Dobrynski. After that we walked through the various committees giving

brief descriptions, and then we broke out into our committee groups to get

to know each other and begin making plans for our committees.

Once the breakout sessions were complete, everyone was welcome to

enjoy appetizers and cocktails while continuing their discussions and

getting to know the other chapter volunteers.

At the conclusion of the event everyone was excited to get going for the

coming year!

Enter CAP Points

The Chapter wants to achieve Platinum status again and we need your assistance…

If you have recently performed a speaking engagement, employed an intern, or written an article for a professional magazine or newsletter please complete the form at the end of this newsletter or better yet go to the chapter website and complete the on-line form “Enter CAP Points” tile under Quick Links or at https://secure.blueoctane.net/forms/AUYKXNT9ZAT0

Platinum Pursuit

As of July 27, 2015, we have an estimated 132 CAP

points

Check out our “Quest for Platinum”

status every month!

Chapter Achievement Program (CAP) CAP is the acronym for Chapter Achievement Program. The program has been established on the premise that the basic mission of the chapter is to serve its members first and then the internal audit profession. The program, sponsored by the International IIA, encourages local chapters to be active both for the benefit of the chapter members and of the local community. Local chapters earn credits for the CAP through in the following categories: a) service to members; b) service to the profession, and c) chapter administration. The Chapter Achievement Program is made up of three performance levels: bronze (685 credits), silver (1,060 credits), and gold (1,560 credits). Thanks to your efforts, our chapter has attained gold status every year since 1997. After ten consecutive years of achieving gold, a chapter achieves Platinum level which this chapter has earned since 2006. So what can a member do to earn CAP points for the chapter? Examples, include:

Attend the monthly chapter meetings; Attend chapter sponsored seminars; Utilize the chapter sponsored Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) review course; Earn an IIA certification; Develop questions for the CIA exam; Recruit new members; Present speeches or training sessions; Write internal audit-related articles for publication; Provide an internal audit internship at your company for a student; and Come up with an innovative way to promote the chapter

So, it's easy to contribute and it doesn't take too much of an effort. You can report CAP activity on the chapter website or directly to the CAP Chairperson Brent Statler at [email protected].

“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes”?

IIA’s Quality Assurance Review Committee

Internal Audit (IA) performs as the eyes and ears of management, providing compliance, risk, assurance and operational coverage of the enterprise. But who audits the auditors? Why would auditors want to be audited? The consistent application of the principles of the IIA’s Quality Assurance and Improvement Program (QAIP) is a goal for each IA shop. Converting this goal into practice and affirming the success of the QAIP can be realized by an independent assessment performed by a ‘fresh set of eyes’- experienced professionals who offer independent, objective evaluation services to an IA shop. To answer the question ‘why,’ the discipline around the performance of a QAIP is required by the Standards, but there are other benefits which accrue to an IA shop through the ongoing QAIP. A robust QAIP builds a repeatable/sustainable methodology which is essential for training new staff while providing the IA team clear expectations around the IA work product. Sending the right message to IA and auditees that quality expectations are defined, communicated and inspected is foundational for IA governance. And Quality sells: To management, the Audit Committee, external auditors and regulators (if applicable.) Quality builds credibility. For those IA shops working in publicly traded companies, the AICPA issued Statement on Audit Standards (SAS) 1281, which addresses the external auditor’s responsibilities of using the work of internal auditors. Specifically, as a prerequisite to being able to use the work of the internal audit function, your external auditor must evaluate IA’s approach for providing a systematic and disciplined approach, including quality control. In summary, if you would like to become that ‘fresh set of eyes,’ volunteer. If you feel your IA shop can benefit from a ‘fresh set of eyes,’ contact me at: David L. Richert, Jr. CPA, CIA Stifel Internal Audit Director One Financial Plaza | 501 N. Broadway St. Louis, MO 63102 314 342 3831 E-mail: [email protected] And lastly, these assessments earn CAP points for our Chapter!

1 This Statement on Auditing Standards is effective for audits of financial statements for periods ending on or after December 15, 2014.
