The Twenty-Ninth Week

Reading on Friday, May 13 at 8:30 am. Each child has picked one poem that s/he wrote when Sasha our poetry teacher was here to read. Your child will be bringing home an invitation to our Poetry Reading. May 13 is also our next All School Read. THANK YOU to you parents and to KIDDO for making poetry with Sasha possible.

During Reading Workshop the children learned and practiced that readers don’t just work hard to read words. They work hard to understand the books they read. As they read, they need to always check, “Am I getting it?” if not, they need to reread to figure out how everything fits together.

In math the children made sense of and solved multistep number stories. The class discussed some solutions and children revised their work if needed.

During science the children continued their work on habitats. The class heard a book that taught them about a few habitiats. After the children heard the book they brainstormed all the habitats they could think of. Then each child chose three habitats that s/he would like to learn about. The children will be working in groups to do research on one habitat.

On Friday the children brought home the wheat berries and popcorn they waited patiently to sprout. The popcorn can be planted in the garden.

This week is the Strawberry Point School Art Show. Our class will tour the Art Show on Tuesday at our regular art time. The Art Show will be up in the multipurpose room all week. There will be a Lemonade Social tomorrow night from 5:30 to 6:30 PM for your child to show you his/her artwork at the Art Show.

Friday is Earth Day. As part of our celebration of Earth Day all the classes at Strawberry Point School will be helping with our Wetlands Clean Up. Room 4 will be at the wetlands on Friday from 10:30 to 11:00 am.
