Students studying fashion at Leeds College of Art (LCA) graduate with a degree in Fashion, but will have specialised in one of the following pathways: Fashion and Design or Fashion and Innovation.

The students select their fashion pathway at the interview stage after the presentation on the content from the fashion team. Discussion and guidance is offered to the students in order for them to make an informed decision about the route they would like to pursue and the pathway they feel will enable them to develop their work with professional awareness.

Students will engage in generic modules during Level 4 with a pathway specific focus according to their selected pathway on entry. Level 4 briefs accommodate both pathways through the embedding of different approaches to fashion in the design and content of the brief. All modules during the first year will provide a solid grounding in the skills and knowledge required for the development of Fashion and Design or Fashion and Innovation through pathway focused briefs.

Course Philosophy

The course philosophy is to foster a creative and open learning environment in which innovation and originality are encouraged and supported. Where talented self-motivated students can become confident, excellent, visually literate designers, with the creativity to design fashion garments, products and experiences that promote and reflect the brands, people, products and companies to whom they belong.

This will be achieved by addressing the visual, practical, intellectual and cultural demands of an ever-changing society and fashion audience.

This will be achieved by addressing the visual, practical, intellectual and cultural demands of an ever-changing society and fashion audience.Students enter Level 5 on their selected Pathway (Fashion and Design or Fashion and Innovation). Level 5 students will work through pathway specific modules and Level 6 students will graduate with a degree in Fashion with a portfolio of work that is individual to them and reflects the pathway they have chosen.

Tutor Quote

“ We would like to wish all the fashion and design 3rd year students the very best for their futures. You have all shown tremendous determination and a hard working approach to your 3rd year of study. Your creativity and passion for the subject has been a joy to observe and although your 3rd year is challenging, you have overcome many obstacles to come out with fantastic bodies of work at the end. We have enjoyed teaching you all and are so excited for your futures however diverse they may be. Good luck and keep being inspired ”.

Tutor Quote

As creative graduates ourselves it’s ironic that we spend our college days yearning to graduate and our remaining days waxing nostalgic about our college days! Those days spent making friends and forging relationships that will be with you for a long time. The skills developed, the lessons learnt will help you carve out your future. The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do, and remember that when your life flashes before your eyes, make sure you’ve got plenty to watch.

After three years of exciting and memorable times at LCA you will be bidding farewell to your friends and tutors. As you move on and enter the creative world I would like to say that it’s been great interacting with and knowing each one of you and I am looking forward seeing how you will all embrace the challenge of starting this new phase in your career.

All the very best for your future.
