This series of 15 fascination books looks into elements of creativity that influence my voice as a designer but also as a critical writer. Each topic is represented through a curated selection of images from my archive.

Fascination: Jet Set

Fascination:

What is a fascination? For me understanding the fundamentals, dare I say the principles, in which a critical view on design requires. What is it that I appreciate in the natural and composed environments that surround me? What catches my eye at first sensational glance and what keeps me in-terested with sunstained story behind it. These elements make up my so called appropriated identity, not of my own creation but of an organized curation. The purely sublime manifestation of witty invention mixed with the cleverly altered classics. At first I am only drawn by the substanti-ated and intellectualized but the emotional and romantic come through in moments of self professed weakness. Its a melange but continuity exists with consideration for aesthetics, formal integrity, proportion, material, context, and message.

JET SET:

The plane, the travel, the airport, the system, the flight attendant, all of which make up my fascination with this experience. A task all of us take care of at least once a year, travel has become so democratized. Though more and more people can now move around quicker and quicker, the charm and romanticism of plane travel has been lost. The systemization of airports tempt the geeky child Inside of me, what some might equate to a star wars affinity, the reality for me matches with the architecture and planing of airports. How many others are traveling at the same time I am also moving to an unimaginably far port of call. Where are they going, what are they doing there? Flight have become less comfortable but the experience of a confined space with entertainment and food served to you, it happens to be the easiest place to accomplish work, the set amount of time is enough of a motivation. The efficient layout of these urban structures follows some-thing almost modernist or minimalist. It is exciting to wait and see what they will come up with next. It also hits my nostalgic resonance, think-ing about where other people are at the same time in a different place, how quickly or how slowly I could get to them. Is distance really a measure of space or of time?
