CLASSROOM RULES, POLCIES, AND PROCEDURES Class rules are observed in the “4 Be P’s” *Be Prompt! Please be in your seats and begin your Do Now at the sound of the bell. *Be Prepared! Bring all class materials daily. It is your responsibility solely to bring all of your materials. Those who forget materials in their lockers or other classes may be allowed to get them, but consequences may apply *Be Productive! You are expected to do your finest work at all times. Take work time seriously, it creates less homework for you. In addition, you never know when a quiz will be given over your work. *Be Polite! Respect your classmates! Respect the teacher! Respect yourself! Respect class resources! Respect my space! Please don’t touch, TAKE/BORROW or use anything on nor in my desk without PRIOR permission Cell phones and other electronic devices The use of cell phones and other electronic devices is PROHIBITED during instructional time. Headphones are permissible during work time. Food/Drink/Gum Food, drinks and gum are allowed in class provided they do not become a distraction, (ie., no leaving class to get food, whole meals etc.,) Students are expected to pick up all trash in order to preserve this privilege. Steps for Misbehavior Re-direction

1. Individual correction (i.e., verbally, direct eye contact, proximity, or written)

2. Written warning (sticky note)- See me after class. 3. Student Rest and Parent Contact 4.Teacher Detention/Alternative Assignment 5. Removal with Corrective Assignment

**Consequences may vary depending on the severity of the offense a teacher’s discretion. Any extreme misbehavior or disrespect towards staff or peers, will result in immediate referral and removal from the class. Parent contact will be made and student will be addressed by an administrator.

General Class Procedures

1. When the speaker is talking, LISTEN. We show that we are listeners by actively tracking (following with our eyes) whoever is speaking.

2. Everyone is expected to be seated and working on the warm-up when the bell rings. 3. All students will be required to keep a notebook/paper, folder, and assigned classroom materials. They are

expected to bring them daily. Notebook quizzes will be given periodically at random so be prepared! Students will not be permitted to go get their notebooks on the day of a notebook quiz.

4. When changing from one activity to another, students must do so quickly. 5. The last 5 minutes of class will be for review, recall and wrapping up the class period. In most cases we will

be reviewing our daily exit ticket and recalling other key points from the lesson. The last minute of class will be reserved for packing up and picking up the area. No one should begin packing up before this time. The class will be dismissed by the teacher, NOT the bell.

6. Students should wait until instruction time is over to request a bathroom pass. No passes will be given the first or last 15 minutes of class. Passes are available during student work time ONLY.

7. Spanish is the predominant language used in the classroom. Students are permitted to ask clarifying questions in English.

8. Students are expected to retrieve all graded work in a timely manner from the indicated tray. It is students’ responsibilities to make sure they retrieve and keep up with their work

*It is strongly recommended that students keep all quizzes and tests for study materials, particularly for the final exam.

GRADING / ASSIGNMENTS / CONFERENCES / TUTORING HOURS : Evaluation and Grading:

All work will be divided into three categories with the following percentages:

▪ Practice/Daily Grades (80%) -The practice category consists of activities, practice, and assessments completed in class (including class participation!)

▪ Coursework (10-20 points)—such as Duolingo, Participation (speaking in TL), “Do Nows”,

Independent Practice, Kahoot, etc.

▪ Formative Assessments (10-50 points) – such as exit tickets, Chapter quizzes,

Binder/homework quizzes, complex paragraph readings, short essays and more rigorous

assignments will also be placed here.

▪ Summative Assessments -(50-150 points) such as unit tests, small projects,

written/listening/speaking assessments)

Final Exam (15%) Final exams are task-based assessments to see what you can listen to, read, and

respond via oral or written response. In depth cultural investigations are also expected. No paper, grammar-

based tests are performed for final exams.

Homework (5%) All skills are learned through repetition and practice. Students are given homework 3- 4 nights a week. They are to complete their homework, which should last no longer than 20 minutes. If they need additional help, they should seek help from the instruction immediately – DON’T WAIT!

Student concerns: grades, assignments, absences, etc. I always welcome student questions in relation to grades, assignments, etc. However, it is imperative students realize it is both impossible and unrealistic for me to halt class instruction in order to answer questions concerning grades, assignments, late work, absences, etc. I am readily available before and after school to address these concerns. I am also available for these concerns during weekly tutorial and by appointment.

Grading Scale: A: 90-100 B: 80-89 C: 70-79 F: 0-69 Make-up Policy For students who are not present during the class period when the assessment is given/assignment is due, the following procedure will be followed: • For excused absences with documentation (as determined by the main office) - students must submit the

assignment/take the assessment the day they return from absence. • For students who are out-of-school on suspension (as documented by administration) - students must submit

work/take the missing assessment the day they return from suspension. In the event that a student has missed multiple days on suspension the extension will be equitable. For example, if a student is out Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and an assessment was given on Tuesday. They must make up that assessment by Friday.

• Make-up work must be requested for, as well as completed, before or after school, NOT during valuable

class time.

Substitute Work Students, please DO NOT turn in assignments given to you during my absence. Work I assign to the class in the

event of my absence should be KEPT until my return to class. This is to avoid any possible misplacing of students’

work, rendering hard work lost or stolen.

Re-take Policy Scholars that do not demonstrate mastery (get below a 70) will not be able to retake exit tickets, however, they are eligible to re-take quizes, and unit assessments (excluding projects and the final exam) given the student adheres to ALL of the following guidelines and/or qualifiers: • Scholar must initiate communication (in-person, email, phone, etc.) with teacher and formally request a retake. • Scholar must attend at least 1 tutorial. • Scholars must retake exam within 1 week of receiving initial grade. Oral or writing assessments may either be taken during or after school, and may be supplemented with

additional work, at the teacher’s discretion. At the end of each posting period, students no longer have the

option to redo original assignments.

Late/ Missing Work

Students will be held accountable for turning in late or missing work within each grading period. To ensure all

student work is accounted for, make sure all assessments, projects, classwork, homework and “Do Nows” are

completed before the grading period ends

Late and Missing Work Consequences

How Late Turned in 2nd Day Turned in 3rd Day Turned in 3-6 days late

After end of 1 week or never turned in

Practice Minus 10% Minus 20% Minus 30% 0%

Formative Minus 20% Minus 30% Minus 40% 0%

Summative Minus 20% Minus 30% Minus 40% 0%

Cheating, plagiarism, and academic dishonesty I view academic dishonesty very seriously. Any students caught cheating will be referred to an administrator and the work will be rendered null and void. Online translators used for anything more than defining a word are considered a form of plagiarism. This process is used to ensure students are acquiring the target language. Tutoring/Office Hours Students, come to tutoring!!! In addition to studying at home, coming to tutoring will enable you to meet with me one-on-one or in a small groups setting to discuss any questions or concerns you have. Office Hours: Students who need additional tutoring times, and parents/students who would like to meet to discuss grades, performance etc., can do so through appointment. Please feel free to contact me as needed. KEEP THIS SYLLABUS IN YOUR FOLDER AT ALL TIMES. PLESAE DETACH THE SYLLABUS CONTRACT TO TURN IN TO ME Friday 16-8-19, NOT THE WHOLE SYLLABUS!!
