  • A note from our Executive and Artistic Directors Its hard to believe that two months have already passed since we took over the leadership of this beautiful and storied theatre. Serving The Everyman and its audiences is a unique honour and we are very proud to present our first full season of shows to you.

Highlights include the much anticipated collaboration between The Everyman and Cork Operatic Society with Marschners opera Der Vampyr, theatre treasure Simon Callow in top form with The Man Jesus (for one night only!), Des Bishops Coming Home with tales of learning to do stand up in Chinese, and a visit from our national theatre as John B. Keanes Sive gets the Abbey Theatre treatment.

The month of September will see a fascinating array of plays either dealing directly with or inspired by true events. Were particularly thrilled to welcome Actors Touring Company (UK) with David Greigs daring play The Events (The Guardians Best Play of 2013), during which four Cork-based choirs will share the stage with this top class company.

This programme proudly wears its Cork credentials on it sleeves, showcasing the work of Corks excellent theatremakers working at home and abroad. Highlights include a new adaptation of Frank OConnors much-loved short stories, God

Bless the Child, and the return of the hapless thieves of Liam Heylins Love, Peace and Robbery, as well as extraordinary new productions: Enter Juliet and Between Trees and Water from two of Corks most exciting theatre companies BrokenCrow and Painted Bird. Flying the flag for Cork abroad and returning home for three nights is Cork treasure Conor Lovett, bringing the wonderful Title and Deed by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Will Eno, before they take on California and then the Edinburgh Festival.

There is much, much more besides, including music, comedy, family shows, even more theatre, the best Morecambe and Wise show youre ever likely to see, the Jazz Festival, and family favourite the Christmas Panto, as CADA and The Everyman sprinkle fairy dust over the magical tale of Cinderella!

We hope youll join us for a moment of joy, fun or inspiration during this coming season. In the Spring Brochure, our predecessors described The Everyman as a unique and priceless gem. We couldnt agree more. Heres to the future!

    OPERA

Der VampyrJoin a cast of international singers, actor musicians, the chorus of Cork Operatic Society and a spine tingling acting ensemble of vampires, witches and living visions of the undead, as the Everyman will once again turn opera into a visual spectacle, an event that will live long in the memory.

Will the vampire get his wish and find three brides about to celebrate their wedding vows whom he can willingly ravage? Will the dark lord of the underworld summon him back to the abyss forever? Will those who know his dark plans keep their vow of silence or will he be revealed for what he is the predator within our midst?

Award-winning directing duo, Michael Barker-Caven and John O'Brien, reunite following the triumph of their production of Pagliacci in 2012. Along with the creative talent of Lisa Zagone, they will transform the Everyman for Cork Midsummer Festival 2014 into a witch's coven of blood curdling intrigue.

  • Enter Juliet

    DRAMA

Its a matter of life or death.

Enter Juliet is a darkly comic tale of the abandoned mad. It is a riveting story of the starving and trapped, of power struggles, lunacy and the stories we tell ourselves to get through the day.

Trapped and long since forgotten, our group have fallen into a social order, an order that is challenged by one of their rank producing an ill-remembered, mongrel Shakespearean play. They perform and are rewarded with food from a hatch. So they perform again and again... and again... but the food doesn't come.

Still they cling to the hope that their patchwork play might save them but are so weak and addled that they can no longer even remember their real names.

Must the show really go on?

Duration - 90 minutes approx. No intermission.

Patrick Talbot Productions, in association with The Everyman, presents

The short stories of Cork born Frank O'Connor are universally regarded as being classics of their kind. None more so than his brilliant stories about his childhood, which have been much loved by many generations of readers around the world.

Now, for the first time, three of those stories: My Oedipus Complex, The Genius and First Confession are brought together within a single play, which will provide a hugely entertaining and uplifting night of theatre. Richly evocative of Cork in the early decades of the 20th century, hilariously funny, and featuring some of Corks best acting talent, God Bless the Child will be a must-see.

With Shane Casey (Love, Peace and Robbery), Liam Heffernan (The Cavalcaders, Fair City, Glenroe) and Gary Murphy (The Vikings, The Tudors).
