The Project

The Emerald Palace Kempinksi Hotel in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) is one of the latest projects in a string of luxury hotels and residences by Emerald Palace Group Hotels and Resorts. Since 1996, the Group, has completed around 40 master-planned properties across Ukraine, UAE and Russia.

The colossal development is a seven-storey luxury resort that comprises a five-star hotel with over 300 rooms, 232 private residences, 20 grand villas and a 500-metre private beach. The development has a total footprint of 2,050,977 square feet and an estimated value of over 32 million euros.

The Challenge

The award-winning British design and engineering consultancy, Hyder Consulting (ME) Ltd, was engaged to help design and engineer this project and its ambitious requirements. The development will operate a chilled water climate control system that is often used where the temperature of multiple individual rooms must be controlled separately. The developers have also specifically requested a solution that can extend the longevity

of the system and its components. A project of this size and complexity has a unique set of engineering challenges that require an in-depth knowledge of indoor climate systems to ensure the best possible technical solution is designed to meet the detailed specifications. Hyder Consulting (ME) Ltd had no hesitation in engaging IMI Hydronic Engineering to help meet such challenges based on a proven track-record of providing premium products and solutions, and a level of technical support that exceeds normal practice.

The Solution

Hyder Consulting (ME) Ltd’s site MEP team, in collaboration with IMI Engineering Support Centre, IMI Hydronic Engineering, FZE and their locally appointed distributor, DC Serve Equipment Trading, LLC, designed a solution that could not only operate efficiently across a complex development but also extend the longevity of the system.

The solution provided included IMI Hydronic Engineering’s new TA-Slider 160 Plus, a smart digitally configurable actuator whose set up options provided flexibility for on-site parameter adaption,

and its higher number of configurations addressed the development’s balancing and control requirements. Also part of the specific design solution, was the new Transfero TV Connect, a high-performing, precise, pump-based pressurisation unit with in-built degasser. The elimination of dissolved gasses is imperative to prevent the degradation of the HVAC components from corrosion and rust, thus helping to increase the lifetime of the system, one of the key project requirements. In addition, IMI Engineering Support Centre also conducted a detailed hydronic calculation to distinguish the minimum required system pump head, identifying the index circuit and the optimum location of the pump sensors to enhance system performance.

The Outcome

The in-depth knowledge that IMI Hydronic Engineering has, combined with state-of-the-art innovative products, enabled them to deliver a solution with diagnostic capabilities, enhanced performance, increased efficiency and features to help protect the system from degradation in order to extend its lifespan; meeting all of the customer’s requirements.

“There are no other suppliers that provide the level of technical support that IMI Hydronic Engineering does.”
