But it didn’t take uncovering these precious items for Harlam to hold a special place in the hearts of Lee, her father Allen, sister Edie and brother Sco. Their experience in the ‘60s and ‘70s has stayed with each of them throughout their lives, and, aſter Allen passed away in 2013, their transformave me at Camp Harlam led them to make a leadership giſt to the Capital Campaign, as well as significant giſts to scholarship. DONOR PROFILE LEE KLEIN ERLICHMAN AND THE KLEIN FAMILY

By Dan Pliskin | Development Committee Co-Chair

As she was packing things from her house for an upcoming move recently, Lee Klein Erlichman (camper ’64-’69, staff

’73-’74) came across a box of memorabilia from her time at Camp Harlam. She found many precious artifacts, including a color war song sheet and the Union camp songbook of the time. But it didn’t take uncovering these precious items for Harlam to hold a special place in the hearts of Lee, her father Allen, sister Edie and brother Scott. Their experience in the ‘60s and ‘70s has stayed with each of them throughout their lives, and, after Allen passed away in 2013, their transformative time at Camp Harlam led them to make a leadership gift to the Capital Campaign, as well as significant gifts to scholarship.

The Kleins were from Allentown, a com-munity that has supported Camp Harlam from its beginnings in 1958. Their extend-ed family is very connected to the Reform movement and, in addition to cousins at Harlam over the decades, family members have also spent summers at URJ Camp Coleman in Georgia. In the early 1960s, Mimi Klein (aunt to Lee, Edie and Scott) was a youth advisor at Keneseth Israel in Allentown and knew of Camp Harlam. Soon after hearing about it, young Lee and a girl-friend went to camp for the first time. Founding director Menchy Goldblatt was still there, two years before the arrival of the legend-ary Arie Gluck.

For Lee and her siblings, it would be the beginning of years of memorable experiences, lifelong friendships and a beautiful relationship with camp.

When the Kleins return to camp for Alumni Days, a lot of the buildings have changed since 50 years ago, but the same Harlam spirit, the same magical transformative Jewish experience, remains.

So Lee and her family decided they wanted to make sure Camp Harlam can continue providing powerful, long-lasting, Jewish identity-building experiences, and they made supporting Harlam one of their top philanthropic priorities. Through their major gift to Phase I of the Capital Campaign, and their amazingly generous support of the Mitch Perlmeter Scholarship Fund, the Kleins have put into action their desire to ensure that the high quality Camp Harlam experience is there for

future generations. “For my family, it’s the idea camp will live on not only for our generation but for future generations” that motivated them to build a bunk in Girls Village. “The [girls] need a place to sleep!” said Lee. Generations of Harlamites will owe a debt of gratitude to Lee Klein Erlichman and the Klein family for planting seeds that will benefit many others who will follow in their footsteps at camp. Camp Harlam couldn’t be more grateful to all of them for their extraordinary gifts.

Dear Friends,Let's begin here: THANK YOU for your incredible leadership and support. Just five years ago, it was hard to imagine that we would reach a point this quickly with millions of dollars raised at Harlam. It was the work of our leaders - professionals and volun-teers in partnership - in creating a road map for this effort and their success in engaging so many contributors that has allowed our aspirations to begin to be realized.

In addition to so many projects around our facility and the incredible growth of our scholarship funds, we are now be-ginning the final push to complete our Build A Bunk project

in Girls Camp. As of this summer, at least 9 of our old cabins will be replaced and with your help we can close the gap to reach our goal.

Harlam continues to thrive; both age-old tradition and innovation are coming together each day to ensure great summers for today's campers and staff and a more secure future for the next generations. Thank you for helping to make this possible, and please join us now to finish what we have started.

Think Camp!

HARLAm mAKEs A DIFFERENcE

By Ali Reich Development Committee Co-Chair

Camp Harlam has been making lemonade, and lots of it, in honor of camper Maya Rigler, 11 year old daughter of alumni Rabbis

Peter & Stacy Eskovitz Rigler. While undergoing her own cancer treatments, Maya has been working toward the amazing goal she set of raising $250,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The mission of ALSF is to to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily for research into new treatments and cures, and to encourage and empower others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer.

THANK YOU to the many Harlam volunteers & generous donors who have supported Maya’s goal! Nine lemonade stands at camp events this year have raised $3,486 for ALSF in Maya’s name. Maya has been selected by ALSF as “Stand Host of the Year” for her exceptional fundraising and will be honored at the Lemon Ball in Philadelphia this January. Maya’s hope is that “Maybe one day we can make sure that no other kid needs to go through this stuff.”

Maya has raised over 85% of her goal to date. To support her dream of ending childhood cancer, please visit www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/1121536
