Kiwanis Torch of Excellence Banquet“Welcome to the 21st Annual Torch of Excellence Banquet. The Kiwanis Clubs of Fresno – Madera Counties and the State Center Community College District wish to recognize and congratulate the student athletes who have excelled in their academic endeavors. Their dedication and commitment to succeed in the classroom as well as on the field of play is an inspiration to us all. It is a night for athletes, parents, instructors and coaches to be proud that our future leaders will come from such an outstanding group of indi-viduals. History of the Torch of ExcellenceThe Kiwanis Torch of Excellence Dinner has been an annual community event since 1997. This event is now a partnership between the Athletic Departments of Fresno City College, Reedley College, State Center Community College District and the Kiwanis Clubs of Fresno – Madera counties. We extend our thanks to the colleges and administrative units of the State Center Community College Dis-trict, local businesses, individuals and Kiwanis clubs who have joined us for this evening’s celebration of the academic achievement of our scholar-athletes. As a community, we are proud to recognize these young women and men who have achieved honors both academically in their educational pursuits and athletically in their individual sports. As they prepare themselves for leadership roles in their communities we hope that they will pursue those roles in partnership with their local Kiwanis organization.

Kiwanians are volunteers improving the world through service. Kiwanis mem-bers help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, care for the sick, build playgrounds, and much more. No problem is too big or too small. Why? Because by working together, many can achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone.

Since Kiwanis first came to the West Coast in 1917, Kiwanis members of Califor-nia, Nevada and Hawaii have been making a positive impact on the communi-ties and people around them. From disaster relief efforts to youth scholarship programs, being in Kiwanis is all about “giving back.”

With more than 14,000 Kiwanis members (and more than 48,000 members in our Service Leadership Programs), the Cal-Nev-Ha District is the largest in Kiwanis International. Our clubs and members contribute in excess of $5,300,000 and 850,000 volunteer service hours to their communities each year. Together, we are improving the world, one child and one community at a time.

The 14 Kiwanis Clubs of Fresno and Madera Counties make up Division 5, which is one of the 47 Divisions making up our Cal-Nev-Ha District, a part of the Kiwanis International organization. Your local Kiwanis Clubs serve to assist the children and needs of the community.
