ONAM EVENT REPORT

The Students Welfare Committee of Marian College of Engineering celebrated amemorable and glorious Onam Fest from 29th Aug 2020 – 31st Aug 2020. The title of thisyear's Onam celebration was "ONAM.COM". Due to the pandemic situation, the wholeEvent was conducted in the online platform. Around 65 students participated in theprograms. E-certificates were provided for the winners as well as the participants.

ONAKALAM

The event Onakalam was conducted on 29th Aug 2020.The participants were asked tosend their designs through WhatsApp. The On 31st evening, through a google meet we select1st, 2nd and 3nd position for the event was declared (as per judging criteria).

RAAGATHALAM (Singing competition)

The event Raagathalam was conducted on 29th Aug 2020.The participants were asked tosend their audio clip through WhatsApp. The song was supposed to have a maximum timelimit of 4-5mins. The participants were not allowed to use karaoke (They can useinstruments). On 31st evening, through a WhatsApp group 1st and 2nd position for the eventwas declared (as per judging criteria). On the same day at 8pm, there was another category,“Most Popular Voice”, the winner was selected from our Instagram page based on the likesthey received between 9:00am-8:00pm on 31st of August 2020.

MALLU MODEL

The event Mallu Model was a modelling competition conduct as a part of SWC Onamfest 2020, Onam.com. The event was conducted in a two-category judgement base. On 30th

Aug 2020, the titles Most Popular Male and Most Popular Female were selected based onthe popularity (likes) they have in the social media platform, Instagram. On 31st Aug 2020,the titles Malayali Manga and Kerala Sreeman were selected by the judges after thejudgement on an online platform, Google meet.

POSTER MAKING

The event Poster Designing was conducted on 29th Aug 2020 as part of the Onamcelebration online inspite of the great pandemic.

There were 13 participants with their digital made posters. The main theme of the poster wasthat it should have a photo that is captured by them which can be related to onam or whichthey can relate to onam with their own creative mindset and the judging criteria was on thecolor sense and understanding of the whole poster.

The event was successful with the participants and the core members of SWC and thejudgement of the posters was done by Prof. Sumitra K. The result was declared on 31st ofAug 2020 with positions of first, second and third.

PHOTOGRAPHY

The event Photography was conducted on 30th Aug 2020.There were 15 enteries.Theparticipants were asked to send their photographs through WhatsApp. The photo must not bea selfie and can be taken on camera or mobile phone. Editing were allowed (colour correctionand filters). On 31st evening, through Google Meet 1st and 2nd position for the event wasdeclared (as per judging criteria). The topics provided were : Fun, Onasadhya, Family,Athappookkalam and Onam rush.

TEACHER’S DAY REPORT

To celebrate Teacher’s day, the members of the Student Welfare Committee decided tothank the teachers of our college uniquely. We started by designing a wishing card and wealso designed a poster, wishing all the teacher's a happy teacher’s day. Then the poster wasdesigned by Brightson Basil (S7 EEE). A song was also dedicated to the teachers, sung byAshna P(S3 Civil), the music by Brightson Basil (S7 EEE), and lyrics by Daniel A Pereira(S7 EEE). Due to the prevailing pandemic situation, we have greeted via WhatsApp.

WEBINAR REPORT

The webinar was conducted for skill development of the students on teacher’s day. Thesession was handled by Prof . Sumitra .K (Staff coordinator, SWC) via Google Meet. It wasan hour-long interactive session where questions were posed to the students who also clearedtheir doubts and learnt many techniques to improve their communication. The session wasexclusively for Marian Engineering College students. In total 46 participants had registeredfor the webinar session with a good number of students from the third semester.

The Student Welfare Committee of Marian Engineering Collage, conducted a presentationcompetition on 10th September 2020,Thursday.The event named ’ PRESENT EXTREMA ’was aimed at bringing out the best from students (MARIAN ENGINEERINGCOLLEGE).The topic was given to the participants on 9th September 2020,(Wednesday)evening at 9:30pm .On the next day the participants were asked to present their worksthrough Google Meet according to the time slot allotted for them. Judgements were doneonline by faculties from each department and winners were declared as per the judgingcriteria.

MEC Technical E-magazine

The most awaited release of our college technical e-magazine was on Oct 1st 2020 at7pm. The magazine depicted two months hard work of the members of Students WelfareCommittee especially the core members who played a major role in bringing this to light. Theprogramme was of a duration of 30 minutes and we had nearly 90 participants. The event wasanchored by Parvathy Gopan ( Debate club Secretary SWC) followed by the welcome speechby Abhyshek R ( Secretary SWC).

The inauguration of Epzlon was done by Dr. Simon A. ( Director of Academics ) followedby the felicitation by Brightson Basil( Chairman SWC) and Al Shifan S H ( MediaCoordinator SWC).The gratitude for the magazine was delivered by Rev.Msgr. Wilfred E. ( Manager ),Prof.Tomy Michael ( Director of Administration), Dr.Ruby Abraham (Principal ) and Prof.Sumitra K, (Staff coordinator SWC) of Marian Engineering College.Finally, the vote of thanks for the event was delivered by Gokul R (Member SWC).

The main aim of our magazine was to sculpt the technical achievements of the college, thatincludes our MILS (Marian Integrated Learning System), all the technical clubs, committeesand students achievement in the era of technology. The pages also contains the details of thebest recruitments under the CGP Unit, major projects of the students, startups, attendees innational conference, project presentations, patent applications…etc from each department andits specifications.

Epzlon is forseen to be a guide for the freshers to know about the quality of assurance oneducational achievements given by our Marian Engineering College. The Epzlon is not just apdf that is shared on some online platform, but it is actually an interactive pdf, designed byAl Shifan SH (Media coordinator SWC) which connects our official websites and stayupdated for a very long time.

Event was successful with the release of our E-magazine and by the participation ofAdministrative members, HOD's, faculties, Lab in charges, alumnus from variousdepartments, and the members of Students Welfare Committee of Marian EngineeringCollege.

REVERB – THE RJ HUNT REPORT

The program was conducted as an attempt to bring out the communication skill andquick thinking skill of students. It was a two hour long session where the participants werefirst asked to introduce themselves just as an RJ in a dynamic manner. Then based on thecontent of their introduction, judges conducted one mock interview. The participants werethen graded on their introduction, responses and interaction with other participants. Thewinners were chosen with respect to how closely they followed the rules and maintained theflow. Among the six participants, two were made title winners instead of giving themnumerical positions.

CRACK IT REPORT

The event was conducted in two days with two rounds; on the 15th and 18th of April,2021. Participants were given logic quiz questions for the 1st round which was thequalification round(on 15th April), from that 5 were short-listed. On 18th April Sunday, the2nd round was conducted in that the participates were given a crossword puzzle. It wasconducted at 5 pm. Around 59 students participated in the programs. E-certificates wereprovided for the winners as well as the participants.

DEBATE COMPETITION REPORT

The Debate competition was conducted by Marian Students Welfare Committee, toallow students to come up and participate in the skill development activities. The competitionhad 2 rounds conducted at 2days.

The Rules and Regulations for Debate Competition were: The topic for the debate will begiven 30 minutes before a competition but whether you are for or against the topic will bedecided on the spot by a coin toss. The topics will be divided among 4 groups comprising of5 randomly selected participants. Even though you are participating in a team evaluation willbe done individually for each member in a group. The debate will be conducted in 2 rounds.The individuals who will be selected by judges from the preliminary round will be selectedfor the final round. The evaluation done by judges will be final. The participants who fail toattend the competition on time will be disqualified without further warning.

The first round of the event had taken place on 29/05/2021 evening at 5 pm. Due to thiswidespread pandemic situation, the venue was set on an online platform, Google Meet.

Total four groups were there in that two groups in one meet (judges: Prof: Sumitra K andAbbin VR) and next two groups in another meet (judges: Brightson Basil &Daniel APereira). The finalist of 1st round was: Grp1-Abhyshek, Manoj, Aparna, and Grp2-Abhijith,Richie, Sahil. The second round of the event had taken place on 30/05/2021 evening at 5 pm.Final round Judges were: Prof Sumitra K(staff Coordinator SWC), Sneha Tomy(Alumni),Abbin VR(Previous debate competition winners), Daniel A Pereira(Swc debate Clubsecretary), Brightson Basil (chairman Swc), Special Guest: Dr. Vijayalekshmy S( EEE HOD).E-certificates were provided for the winners as well as the participants.

The Crack It-2.0 was conducted by the Marian Students Welfare Committee,which was held on the 6th of June, 2021. The Rules and Regulation were:(1) The link forCrack it 2.0 will be active from 6th June,10am to 7th June,10am. (2) Contest will beconducted on Quizzizz plateform. (3) During the start of the quiz, enter your name in theformat #full name,year and class# (Eg: Ram Raj-S6R1) .(4) Reattempting questions will notbe tolerated. If found, will lead to disqualification. (5) The Highest score will be markedbased on the average time taken and the score (Wrong answers leads to deduction of scores).There were 10 questions and given 1 min for each question . Around 65 students participatedin the program. E-certificates were provided for the winners as well as the participants.

BRAINIAC - HACKATHON REPORT

The hackathon competition was conducted by Marian Students Welfare Committee, tohelp students understand problems given to them and come up with projects, and practicepresenting them in front of a judging panel.

Ten problem statements will be provided for the Hackathon of which one is to be selected.Teams can have up to five members. A presentation based on the solution was to be preparedfollowing the guidelines which were provided. An interval of three days where to be given tofigure out the solution and prepare for the presentation. From the 10th of June to the 13th.

A total of 17 teams had registered, of which 11 had taken part in the event. Each team hadfive members. A team from Christ college was also present marking an intercollegiate event.The teams were given 15 minutes to present which included time for a Q&A session by thejudges. Due to the prevailing Covid -19 pandemic, the session was conducted via the Googlemeet platform. The main event started at 11 am and continued till 1 pm for the morningsession before lunch. After which, it was continued at 2 pm and was concluded till 4 pm.
