THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD ON CHRIST (CORPUS CHRISTI) - June 19, 2022 Today’s Gospel Reflection: Luke 9:11b-17
THE GIFT OF THE EUCHARIST Today we hear how Abram encounters Melchizedek, “king of Salem . . . and a priest of God Most High” (Genesis 14:18). Melchizedek appears nowhere else in scripture, but is nonetheless significant. Psalm 110 declares of the great King David, “You are a priest forever, in the line of Melchizedek,” a description later given (in the letter to the Hebrews) to Christ as High Priest. Early Christians saw in Melchizedek’s bread and wine the bread and wine of the Eucharist; Paul’s account of the Last Supper (in today’s second reading) is the oldest one in scripture. In the Gospel, Luke de-scribes Jesus providing bread for a crowd in words similar to Paul’s, words still used by the Church: Jesus takes bread, gives thanks, breaks it. Together, these three readings reveal how Christian priesthood, Christ’s Real Presence, and the call to serve those in need are all found in the gift of the Eucharist. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD ON CHRIST (CORPUS CHRISTI)
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is also known as the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, which translates from Latin to
“Body of Christ.” It is a Latin Rite liturgical solemnity celebrating the tradition and belief in the body and blood of Jesus Christ and his Real
Presence in the Eucharist. The Catechism of the Catholic Church summarizes this teaching of
the importance of the Eucharist: The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.”
“The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it,
for in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch” (1324).
Every Sunday is a feast of the Eucharist because by participating in the Mass and in receiving Communion, we are honoring and celebrating the Eucharist.
Nonetheless, a desire to specifically celebrate the Eucharist developed. The feast of Corpus Christi owes a rather large debt to St. Juliana, a nun of Liege,
Belgium, who was led to start a celebration of the Mass around AD 1230.
Sunday, June 19, 2022 Dear Parishioners and Friends, Welcome to St. Maria Goretti Parish Festival. We hope this year that we will gather many people for our festival. We hope many people will “catch” the excitement and the contagious joy of our Catholic faith and wish to join us regularly. I thank you for being part of our time together and know that if you are looking for a church home, you are always most welcome.
The theme of this year festival is “Encourage One Another and Build Each Other Up”. This theme is inspired by St. Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians (1 Thessalonians 5:11). ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER. One of the best ways to build each other up is through encouragement. Gossiping di-vides the community. Criticism always leads to more stress. Encouragement makes us stronger and uplifts the communi-ty toward being better. Encourage one another in the good things we do. Effective teachers know that playing to a stu-dent’s strengths works better than focusing on any weaknesses. We pay attention to one another’ strengths; we build up, affirm, and encourage. BUILD EACH OTHER UP. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, St. Maria Goretti parish wishes to open up as a wel-coming community. Our vision is to build each other up. We will do it with four commitments. First, we listen with in-tent. Another way to build each other up is to simply listen to what the other person wants to say. Second, we fo-cus on the positive. So much of our happiness depends on how we choose to look at the world. Third, we accept one another. Cardinal Rober t McElroy, Bishop of San Diego, once said: “If the Church eliminated all the employees who are not living out the teachings of the Church in its fulness, we would be employing only angels.” Fourth, we lead one another up to heaven. St. Mar ia Goretti in her deathbed spoke of the one who harmed her, “I forgave Alessandro, and want him to be in Paradise with me some day.” Like our Patroness, we help each other to obtain the goodness and conduct a life of grace. To conclude, I would like to thank all volunteers who dedicate their time and labor and all sponsors who want us to have a good time together. They help to make our annual Parish Festival such a wonderful success. May God bless them for what they have done for us. In the peace of Christ,

The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus falls on the 19th day after Pentecost (a Friday), and the Feast of the Immac-ulate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary follows on the next day, because devotion to these two hearts was promoted together as a means of entering more deeply into the mystery of God’s love.
God our Father, in your wisdom and love you made all things.
Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them

WORLD REFUGEE DAY Each June 20, the globe comes together to honor World Refugee Day. The United Nations General Assembly launched the holi-day in 2000, and since then, the worldwide community has spent the day focused on ways to improve the lives of refugees. Most of us know that refugees are forced to leave their homes due to war, terror, or other crises—but fleeing their home country is often just the beginning of a difficult journey. Many refugees find themselves living in camps until they are reset-tled—some of which are dangerous or not well-equipped for long term living. Refugees don’t always have a say in which country they are ultimately relocated to, and the bureaucratic process involved in finding their new home can take years. Worldwide refugee crises have taken center stage in the news in recent years, so it’s more important than ever to share support and to celebrate World Refugee Day.
Jesus calls us to welcome refugees and immigrants, and says that when we extend a helping hand to them, we are meeting
him face-to-face.

CORPUS CHRISTI - EL CUERPO Y LA SANGRE DE CRISTO - 19 de junio de 2022 Reflexión al Evangelio de hoy: Lucas 9,11b-17
EL DON DE LA EUCARISTÍA Hoy escuchamos cómo Abraham se encuentra con Melquisedec “rey de Salem… y sacerdote del Dios Altísimo” (Génesis 14:18). Melquisedec no se menciona en otra parte de las Escrituras, pero sin embargo es significativo. El salmo 110 declara del importante rey David: “Tú eres sacerdote para siempre, en la línea de Melquisedec”, una descripción que más adelante se da (en la carta a los hebreos) de Cristo como Sumo Sacer-dote. Los primeros cristianos veían en el pan y el vino de Melquisedec el pan y el vino de la Eucaristía; el relato de Pablo de la Última Cena (en la segunda lectura de hoy) es el más antiguo del Nuevo Testamento. En el Evangelio, Lucas describe a Jesús dando pan a una multitud con palabras similares a las de Pablo, palabras que todavía utiliza la Iglesia: Jesús toma el pan, ofrece palabras de acción de gracias y lo parte. Juntas estas tres lecturas revelan cómo el sacerdocio cristiano, la presencia real de Cristo y la llamada a servir a los pobres y

20 de junio JORNADA MUNDIAL DEL REFUGIADO
Cada 20 de junio, el mundo se une para honrar el Día Mundial del Refugiado. La Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas inauguró la festividad en el año 2000 y, desde entonces, la co-munidad mundial ha pasado el día enfocada en formas de mejo-rar la vida de los refugiados. La mayoría de nosotros sabemos que los refugiados se ven obligados a abandonar sus hogares debido a la guerra, el terrorismo u otras crisis, pero huir de su país de origen suele ser solo el comienzo de un viaje difícil. Muchos refugiados se en-cuentran viviendo en campamentos hasta que son reasentados, algunos de los cuales no son seguros o no están bien equipados para vivir a largo plazo. Los refugiados no siempre tienen voz y voto en qué país son finalmente reubicados, y el proceso burocrático involu-crado en encontrar su nuevo hogar puede llevar años. Las crisis de refugiados en todo el mundo han ocupado un lugar central en las noticias en los últimos años, por lo que es más importante que nunca compartir el apoyo y celebrar el Día Mundial del Re-fugiado.
Jesús nos llama a dar la bienvenida a refugiados e inmigrantes, y dice que cuando les echamos una mano,
nos encontramos con él cara a cara.
Domingo 19 de junio de 2022 Estimados feligreses y amigos: Bienvenidos al Festival Parroquial de Santa María Goretti. Deseamos que este año reunamos a mucha gente en nuestro festival. Esperamos que muchas personas “capten” la emoción y la alegría contagiosa de nuestra fe católica y deseen unirse a nosotros regularmente. Les agradezco por ser parte de nuestro tiempo juntos y sé que, si están buscando una iglesia que sea como su casa, siem-pre serán bienvenidos.
El lema de nuestro festival de este año es “Edifiquémonos y Animémonos Mutuamente”. Este tema está inspirado en las palabras de San Pablo en su carta a los Tesalonicenses (1 Tes. 5,11). ANIMÉMONOS MUTUAMENTE. Una de las mejores maneras de edificarnos unos a otros es a través de animarnos mutuamente. Los chismes dividen a la comunidad; la crítica siempre conduce a más estrés; sin embargo, el estímulo nos hace más fuertes y anima a la comunidad a ser mejores. Animémonos unos a otros en las cosas buenas que hacemos. Los buenos maestros saben que realzar las fortalezas de un estudiante funciona mejor que enfocarse en las debilidades. Si prestamos atención a las fortalezas de los demás, edificamos, afirmamos y animamos. EDIFIQUÉMONOS MUTUAMENTE. Bajo la guía del Espíritu Santo, nuestra Parroquia de Santa María Goretti desea abrirse como una comunidad acogedora. Nuestra visión es edificarnos mutuamente. Lo lograremos si cumplimos con estos cuatro compromisos: Primero, escuchar con intención. Otra forma de edificarse mutuamente es simplemente escu-char lo que la otra persona quiere decir. En segundo lugar, centrarnos en lo positivo. Gran parte de nuestra felicidad de-pende de cómo elegimos mirar el mundo. Tercero, aceptarnos como somos unos a otros. El cardenal Robert McElroy, Obispo de San Diego, dijo una vez: “Si la Iglesia eliminara a todos los empleados que no están viviendo las enseñanzas de la Iglesia en su plenitud, estaríamos empleando solo ángeles”. Cuarto, guiarnos unos a otros al cielo. Santa Mar ía Goretti en su lecho de muerte habló de quien la hirió: “Perdoné a Alessandro y quiero que esté en el Paraíso conmigo algún día”. Así como nuestra Patrona, debe-mos ayudarnos mutuamente para obtener el bien y llevar una vida de gracia. Por último, me gustaría agradecer a todos los voluntarios que dedican su tiempo y trabajo y a todos los patrocinadores que desean lo pasemos bien juntos. La solemnidad del Santísimo Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo, también se conoce
como la Solemnidad del Corpus Christi, que se traduce del latín como
“Cuerpo de Cristo”.
Esta fiesta se originó en Francia a mediados del siglo XIII y fue extendida a toda la Iglesia por el Papa Urbano IV en 1264. Esta fiesta se celebra el jueves siguiente al Domingo de la Santísima Trini-
dad o, como en los Estados Unidos, el domingo siguiente a esa fiesta. Esta fiesta nos llama a centrarnos en dos manifestaciones del Cuerpo de Cristo, la Sagrada Eucaristía y la Iglesia. El propósito principal de esta fies-ta es centrar nuestra atención en la Eucaristía. La oración de apertura de la Misa llama nuestra atención sobre el sufrimiento y la muerte de Jesús y nues-tro culto a Él, especialmente en la Eucaristía. El enfoque secundario de esta fiesta es el Cuerpo de Cristo tal como está presente en la Iglesia. La Iglesia recibe el nombre de Cuerpo de Cristo por la íntima comunión que Jesús com-parte con sus discípulos. La fiesta del Corpus Christi se usa comúnmente como una oportuni-dad para las procesiones eucarísticas públicas, que sirve como un signo de fe y adoración comunes. La solemnidad del Sacratísimo Corazón de Jesús cae 19 días después de Pentecostés (un viernes), y la fiesta del Inmaculado Corazón de la Santísima Virgen María se celebra al día siguiente, debido a que la devoción a estos dos corazones se promovió juntos como un medio para adentrarse más en el misterio del amor de Dios.
THƯ CHA CHÍNH XỨ Chúa Nhật, ngày 19 tháng 6 năm 2022 Kính thưa Quý Cụ, Quý Ông Bà và Anh Chị Em: Chào mừng mọi người đến Hội Chợ Giáo Xứ Thánh Maria Goretti. Chúng tôi mong rằng hội chợ năm nay sẽ qui tụ nhiều người đến tham dự. Và cũng mong rằng nhiều người cảm nhận sự phấn khích và niềm vui lây lan của đức tin Công Giáo ở cộng đoàn này. Chúng tôi cám ơn quý vị đã đến chung vui và nếu quý vị đang tìm một giáo xứ để gia nhập thì chúng tôi rất hoan hỉ đón chào.
Chủ đề của Hội Chợ Giáo Xứ năm nay là “Hãy Khích Lệ Nhau và Giúp Nhau Cùng Tiến”. Chủ đề này lấy ý tưởng từ Thư của Thánh Phaolô gởi cho các tín hữu Thasalonica (1 Thes 5:11). HÃY KHÍCH LỆ NHAU. Một trong những cách để giúp nhau cùng tiến là qua việc khích lệ nhau. Chúng ta hãy khuyến khích nhau làm những gì mà chúng ta giỏi. “Nói hành nói tỏi” thì chỉ làm cho cộng đoàn suy yếu. Chỉ trích thì chỉ làm tăng thêm bất mãn. Còn khích lệ thì sẽ làm cho chúng ta mạnh mẽ hơn và nâng cộng đoàn lên một tầm cao hơn. Các thầy cô giáo giỏi thường chú ý vào những ưu điểm của học sinh hơn là chú ý vào những yếu điểm. Chúng ta cũng nên làm vậy. Hãy chú ý vào những ưu điểm của nhau, để rồi xây dựng, khen ngợi, và khuyến khích. GIÚP NHAU CÙNG TIẾN. Dưới sự hướng dẫn của Chúa Thánh Thần, giáo xứ Thánh Maria Goretti mong ước mở rộng vòng tay đón nhận nhau. Nguyện ước của chúng tôi là giúp nhau cùng tiến. Qua bốn cam kết. Thứ nhất, chúng tôi lắng nghe chân thành. Một cách để giúp nhau cùng tiến là chịu khó lắng nghe người khác muốn nói gì. Thứ hai, chúng tôi tập trung vào những điểm tích cực. Nhiều khi hạnh phúc nằm ở hướng chúng ta chọn để nhìn vào thế giới này. Thứ ba, chúng tôi chấp nhận nhau. Đức tân Hồng y Rober t McElroy, Giám mục San Diego, có lần nói: “Nếu Giáo Hội loại trừ hết các nhân viên không sống theo đường lối của Giáo Hội cách đầy đủ, thì chúng ta chỉ có nước mướn các thiên thần vào làm.” Thứ tư, chúng tôi dẫn dắt nhau tiến về Quê Trời. Thánh Mar ia Goretti trong giờ phút lâm tử đã nhắc đến kẻ hãm hại mình rằng: “Con tha thứ cho anh Alessandro, và mong ước anh sẽ có ngày được ở trên Thiên Đàng với con”. Như vị thánh bổn mạng của giáo xứ, chúng tôi muốn giúp nhau đạt đến điều toàn thiện và sống trong ơn nghĩa Chúa. Nhân đây tôi xin cám ơn tất cả các tình nguyện viên đã đóng góp thời gian và lao nhọc, cũng như các nhà tài trợ và cơ sở thương mại, là những người quảng đại có lòng muốn cho cộng đoàn giáo xứ có thời gian vui vẻ bên nhau. Bài đọc 2: 1Cr 11,23-26. Khi cử hành phụng vụ Thánh Thể, chúng ta tiếp tục công tr ình cứu chuộc của Chúa Kitô, để Chúa mau quang vinh ngự đến.
Bài Tin Mừng: Lc 9:11b-17. Câu truyện Đức Giêsu nuôi đám đông dân chúng trong Phúc Âm hôm nay, là cơ hội để chúng ta nhận ra lòng yêu thương và chăm sóc của Thiên Chúa.

Thầy Phó tế Giuse Luy Nguyễn Xuân Trường CSsR, thuộc Dòng Chúa Cứu Thế Việt Nam Hải Ngoại và là bổn đạo gốc giáo xứ Thánh Maria Goretti, đã được Đức Cha Italo Dell’ Oro, Giám mục phụ tá Tổng Giáo phận Galveston – Houston, truyền chức linh mục vào lúc 10 giờ sáng, Thứ Bảy, ngày 11 tháng 6 năm 2022 tại Đền Đức Mẹ Hằng Cứu Giúp, Houston, Texas.
Tân Linh mục sẽ về xứ nhà St. Maria Goretti dâng Thánh Lễ Tạ Ơn vào Thứ Tư, ngày 22 tháng 6 năm 2022 lúc 6 giờ chiều. Kính mời cộng đoàn tham dự.

Rước Kiệu lúc 5:30PM và Thánh Lễ lúc 6:00PM Đại Lễ Kính Thánh Tâm Chúa Giê-su đã được cử hành trên toàn Giáo hội. Với một Tông Sắc vào ngày 23 tháng 08 năm 1856, Đức Pi-ô IX đã ấn định rằng, Đại Lễ Kính Thánh Tâm Chúa Giê-su sẽ được cử hành trên toàn Giáo hội vào ngày thứ Sáu đầu tiên sau tuần Bát Nhật Kính Mình và Máu Thánh Chúa. Vào năm 1889, Đức Lê-ô XIII đã nâng Đại Lễ Kính Thánh Tâm Chúa Giê-su lên thành Đại Lễ bậc nhất. Xin kính mời cộng đoàn tham dự đông đủ đại lễ mừng kính trọng thể Trái Tim Cực Thánh Đức Chúa Giêsu, cùng hiệp thông chung lời tạ ơn Thiên Chúa và kín múc nguồn tình yêu thương từ Thánh Tâm Chúa Giêsu là suối nguồn đầy ơn phúc cho nhân loại.
Thánh Lễ An Táng Linh Mục Gioan Lưu Mai Khiên, SVD – Sẽ được cử hành vào Thứ Bảy, ngày 25 tháng 6 lúc 10 giờ sáng tại nhà thờ St. Maria Goretti. Cố linh mục Gioan sẽ an nghỉ tại nghĩa trang Oak Hill, bên cạnh bà cố của ngài. Kính mời cộng đoàn tham dự và cầu nguyện cho linh hồn cố linh mục Gioan.
Cố linh mục Gioan Lưu Mai Khiên qua đời ngày 26 tháng 5 năm 2022 tại Missouri. Là linh mục Dòng Ngôi Lời, cha Gioan chịu chức linh mục vào ngày 28 tháng 3 năm 1992. Thân phục của cố linh mục Gioan là ông cố Lưu Riệm và đại gia đình đang cư ngụ tại giáo xứ St. Maria Goretti và các giáo xứ khác trong giáo phận San Jose. Trước ngày lễ an táng, linh cữu của cha Gioan Lưu Mai Khiên sẽ được quàn trong hai ngày 23 và 24 tháng 6 cũng tại nhà thờ St. Maria Goretti. Thánh Lễ cầu hồn sẽ được cử hành vào chiều Thứ Năm, ngày 23 tháng 6 và ngày 24 tháng 6 lúc 6 giờ chiều.
Đoàn Thiếu nhi Thánh Thể Vinh Sơn Liêm chúng con xin đưa ra một vài thông báo: Đoàn chúng con chúng con vẫn có Sinh Hoạt hàng tuần cho đến ngày 23 tháng 7 năm 2022.
Chúng con sẽ có trại hè cho các em Thiếu Nhi vào ngày 29, 30 và 31 tháng 7.
Xin Quý Phụ Huynh hãy khuyến khích con em mình tham gia sinh hoạt thường xuyên vào mọi Thứ Bảy hàng tuần bắt đầu lúc 3:45 chiều.
