EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Minds of the younger generation have been opened up in the process of India's march into the

liberalized era. Success stories of Indian IT, biotech and other high-tech companies and the

exceptional performance of Indian entrepreneurs have begun to fire the imagination of younger

minds and motivated the youth towards entrepreneurship and start-up venturing.

Today innovation is a key behind technological development. Campuses are the right places to

breed innovation. The scope given in present university system of technical education is not

focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. It was felt that creating awareness amongst the

students about “Entrepreneurship as a career option” was essential. Keeping this in view we

have started CED in March 2006.

The Cell aims at creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the campus. It aims to develop and

support new and future entrepreneurs thereby striving towards building the capacity of a

technology entrepreneur, assessing demand opportunity, developing a marketable product,

patenting and licensing, building the right team, raising money and creating value for customer

and ventures. The college aims to set up an incubation center that gives a forum for students to

translate an idea into a fundable technology business. The cell also has an objective of

equipping the faculty who are interested in and passionate about implementing programs by

providing various trainings.

Since its inception, CED has been conducting training programs on various aspect of

entrepreneurship. Every Thursday evening programme is conducted as per schedule prepared

at the beginning of the semesters. These activities are also helpful in preparing and facing the

placement requirements.

Summary of Entrepreneurship Activity

Entrepreneurship Activity under induction programme organized by Basaveshwar Engineering

College Bagalkot was conducted by Dr. VINOD S PURANIK Professor, Department of IPE Chief Coordinator BEC-CED. He explained what “entrepreneur and entrepreneurship” actually

means. Students across all branches participated in the discussion with great interest. Further

he discussed in detail about next gen entrepreneurship and how to generate an idea. He

conducted class through slide presentation-cum-discussion. Also discussed on “Personality

Development” and “Motivation and Proactive Behaviors for Achievers” with list of various

national and international achievers. He showed List of activities already conducted by BEC-

CED with glimpses of students photos participated previously. He also conducted an activity

called “Know your Entrepreneurial competency”.

He informed the students about the facilities created at BEC-CED for entrepreneurship skills

development of aspiring candidates. CED provides guidance and help to identify ideas,

developing and implementation of plans for starting their own enterprise.

Participants of this entrepreneurship class showed lot of interest and gave positive feedback

about the class and told that they will regularly attending the entrepreneurship training

programme which will be conducted by BEC-CED.
