Develop Maori brand and provenance story

Create opportunities that build capacity, capability and

participation within the honey industry.

Promote kaitiakitanga and sustainable practices within the honey

industry.

1.Manuka most expensive honey in the world, elevated price of other

honey's

2.Manuka grows on Maori Freehold Land

3.12,000 Tonne total NZ honey production includes 2,000 Tonne Manuka

honey production

4.Maori Landowners are passive participants (ie: site rentals)

5.Honey company's want longer term access arrangements

6.Maori can move through the value chain, by collaboration

7.Transparent and open communication required to build trust

Overview:

1. NZ honey exports have grown at a 30% compound rate for the past

decade, reaching US$70m in 2010.

2. Exports strong in Europe (UK and Germany) and Asia

3.Manuka honey is the most expensive honey in the world, driving the

growth of the whole NZ honey industry

4. Active manuka honey has scientifically proven health properties

5.The activity of manuka honey is unique to NZ*, creating defensible

barrier to competition

6. Manuka honey is the perfect product - sweet, guilt free and scalable
