AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The objecti ve of the SBOA Public School besides striving for academic excellence, is to provide comprehensive, value based and quality educati on at a reasonable cost to the children of all secti ons of the society to transform them into the best citi zens of the country with a strong personality, self esteem and a strong moral character together with a sense of discipline, responsibility, initi ati ve, self-reliance, dedicati on, integrity and loyalty. The objecti ve of the school is to make the learning process joyful and interesti ng for the children. It promotes stress-free educati on and aims at creati ng pathways that will lead the children to innovati on. Management & Promoti on

SBOA Public School has been established in August, 1994 with 8 students and three classes – LKG, UKG and Class-I. Year by year the school has been growing and in March, 2002, the fi rst batch of students appeared in Class –X Final Examinati on under the Central Board of Secondary Educati on (CBSE). The school has been upgraded to Senior Secondary level in 2009 with Science, Humaniti es and Commerce in class XI & XII.

SBOA Public School is managed by S B O A (N.E. Circle) Educati onal Society, sponsored by State Bank of India Offi cers’ Associati on (N. E. Circle). It has been established by the Society as one of the social initi ati ves of State Bank of India Offi cers’ Associati on of the North Eastern Circle to provide value based educati on to the needy and deserving students. The Society is registered under the Societi es Registrati on Act (XXI) of 1860, Registrati on No. 2046 of 1994-95.

The SBI Offi cers’ Associati on ( N. E. Circle) and two thrift Sociti es viz. SBI Offi cers’ (Shillong Region) Co-operati ve Credit Society Ltd., Shillong and SBI Offi cers’ Thrift & Credit Co-operati ve Society Ltd., Guwahati have contributed substanti al amounts to the Society to set up the school.

The objecti ve of the school is to establish educati onal insti tuti ons at paces in N. E. Region where there is a concentrati on of Bank Offi cers and to run them as model school(s) aiming at providing quality educati on to all children of the society at large on the patt ern of SBOA School, Chennai run by SBI Offi cers’ Associati on (Chennai Circle). The Society takes guidance from them from ti me to ti me. The Society is also planning to provide hostel faciliti es to students from class VII onwards, subject to availability of infrastructure and demand.

The Campus

The school is presently situated on a sprawling campus on a plot of about 18 bighas of land on the Nati onal Highway-37, Garchuk, Guwahati -35 just a few meters away from Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT). The campus now has three academic blocks with well equipped Laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Botany & Zoology, Computer Science and Mathemati cs and Teachers Common Rooms, a Yoga Room, Music Room a big play ground, Volley ball fi eld, Foot ball Field , few staff quarters, a branch of State Bank of India, an SBI ATM, a garden. One new Academic building with big Auditorium is under process for constructi on and is expected to be completed by the next session.

COURSE OF STUDY & CLASSES

The school aims at providing a very high standard of educati on and many features of modern school of repute have been introduced in the school. The school is a co-educati onal English Medium school following the curriculum of CBSE, New Delhi. Assamese, Hindi and Sanskrit are off ered as second/third language up to class X. The school houses classes from Lower Kindergarten (LKG) to the Senior Secondary level (XII). It is affi liated to the Central Board of Secondary Educati on, New Delhi. The prospectus and applicati on forms are available on payment of Rs. 100/-.The applicati on form for admission should be completed and submitt ed within the date specifi ed. The admission is strictly on the basis of merit. A child seeking admission to LKG must complete at least 3 (Three) years of age as on 31st March of the year of Admission.

The Registrati on form issued to the selected candidates for admission should be duly fi lled in and registered at the school along with the registrati on fee of Rs.500/- within the date specifi ed.

ACADEMIC YEAR/SESSION

The academic year of the School is from April to March with three mid-year vacati ons (Terminal Holidays) i.e. Summer vacati on during July, Autumn Break during October and Winter Break during December/January of the following year. The session is divided in to two terms i.e April to September and October to March. The School works for 220 days in a year and from 8.00 a.m to 2.10 p.m. on all working days except Second Saturday (please refer to the handbook).

FACULTY

The school has a very committ ed and dedicated team of well qualifi ed (as per CBSE norms) teaching Staff with adequate experience. They are periodically sent for training and in service programme such as seminars and workshops to help them improve their teaching and professional skills.

CLASS LIBRARY & REFERENCE LIBRARY

The school has a well equipped library. All the classes are provided with at least one library period per week. Reference books are also available in the library for the students. Books are made available to the pupils against Library cards issued to them on payment of Rs.20/- .

Library is equipped with more than 6000 books in additi on to 700 reference books, 7 periodicals, 5 dailies and 5 magazines.

TESTS AND EXANIATIONS

LKG to Class II : Month-wise assessment

Class III to VIII : Conti nuous and c o m p r e h e n s i v e Evaluati on (CCE) as per latest e x a m i n a t i o n reforms introduced by the Department of Human Resources, Govt. of India for the Co-Scholasti c areas from the Primary Level ti ll the Secondary Level.

Normally as soon as the assessment/examinati on are over, Students’ report card is handed over to the parents/guardians only preferably during Parents Teachers Meet. A system of awarding of Gradati on has been introduced in the school to moti vate the children to conti nuously excel themselves. The school prepares the students for All India Secondary and Senior School Examinati on conducted by CBSE, Delhi.

COMPUTER EDUCATION

Computer Educati on is compulsory for all the students from LKG to Class IX. Students of class XI & XII may opt computer Science or Informati cs Practi ces (IP) as one of their subjects on qualifying in an entrance test.

The computer classes are conducted by experienced and qualifi ed faculty members. The school has a well equipped computer laboratory with all the modern equipment/ technology.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Physical Educati on is compulsory for all students. It is one of the Electi ve subjects for the students of class XI & XII. Yoga classes are held regularly for all the students.

HEALTH AND MEDICAL CHECKUP

Medical inspecti on/ check-up is conducted by a team of qualifi ed medical offi cers for all the students every year and cumulati ve medical reports are sent to the parents for necessary ‘follow up’. The diff erently abled children admitt ed in the school are given special att enti on.

HOUSE SYSTEM

The school has been divided into four houses for the purpose of providing good citi zenship training to all the pupils. The houses are named aft er rivers, hills and lakes of the North Eastern Region viz. Loktak, Kopili, Patkai and Lohit.

Each house has House Master/ House Mistress, Captain & Vice Captain. All competi ti ons - cultural, sports and academics are conducted on inter house basis. Every child is given an opportunity to bring out the best in him/ her.

SCHOOL COUNSELLING SERVICE & REMEDIAL CLASSES

Special eff orts are made to give personal att enti on to each and every student of the school so as to enrich his/her whole life. Counselling service is made available by the school for providing educati onal guidance parti cularly for the low achievers. The counsellors serve as School-cum-House liaison offi cers. Remedial classes are also organised for improving the performance of the low achievers/slow learners.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE

A student must put in at least 75 % of att endance to be eligible for sitti ng in the fi nal examinati ons. Leave will be granted only on medical grounds and unavoidable circumstances.(Medical certi fi cate MUST be produced from a registered medical practi ti oner). For class XI and XII, 75 % of att endance both in Theory and Practi cal classes are compulsory. A student must be present on the last day and opening day aft er all terminal holidays i.e. Summer vacati on, Autumn/Puja break and winter break. Absence will lead to a fi ne of Rs.50/-.

CLUBS

The school has 8 (eight) clubs for its students i.e. Science and Maths club, Art & Craft club, Social Welfare club, Dramati cs and Fine Arts, Health club, Grooming club, General Knowledge Lab and Language club.

TRANSPORTATION

The school runs bus services on specifi ed route(s) for the benefi t of children living in diff erent parts of the city. The requirement of school bus should be specifi cally indicated in the applicati on form for admission.

The monthly fee for the same will be informed to the students/parents at the beginning of each session. The School has at present 30 buses hired on contact basis to render services on specifi c routes for the benefi t of children living at far off places of the city.

WITHDRAWALS

Withdrawals are not permitt ed during the course of a term. If however, a student is to be withdrawn, the same fees for the whole term would be levied.

PARENTS TEACHERS MEET

Parents-Teachers meets are held periodically throughout the session to discuss diff erent matt ers relati ng to the development of the children and the school. Students’ Report Book is handed over to the parents/guardians only preferably during Parents Teachers Meet. Parents are requested to follow the general instructi ons given by the school through Hand Books meti culously. They can meet the Head of School on specifi c days and

ti me as noti fi ed by the school. On other days, they can meet him/her only with prior appointment.

The Annual fee and Registrati on fee are to be paid at the school at the ti me of admission along with the tuiti on and transportati on fees for the 1st Term i.e. April to June. The tuiti on and transportati on fees will have to be paid within 10th of fi rst month of every quarter/term i.e. in the month of April, July, October and January at the Bank, recommended by the school failing which a fi ne of Rs.10/- for each day of delay (both for tuiti on & transportati on ) shall be imposed by the school. The rates of the school fees are subject to change from ti me to ti me.
