FOREWORD
The world is facing a very unprecedented problem due to COVID-19. About one crore
people all over the world are affected and about 5 lakh people died. India is very
seriously affected. Apart from the virus affected people and their relatives entire nation is
in distress. Economic recession is in the highest Unemployment increased due to lock
down, manufacturing activity is in standstill. Even we cannot go to churches to worship.
In this period of distress by the grace of God - Indian YMCA under took lot of relief
activities and its projects were very active in relief activities. Supplying food packets to
the needy, face masks, sanitizers etc were done through head office of NCYI and
National Projects. Many YMCAs also undertook many charitable programs in association
with central, state, and local self governments. YMCA volunteers were in the forefront in
relief activities throughout the nation. By Zoom Meetings YMCA members gave
confidence to the people. Several YMCAs Guest House were given for quarantine
purpose. Yes we have done what Jesus taught us. As a Good Samaritan Indian YMCA
did it best and doing it now.
I am thankful to all who cooperated with us in relief activities. I hope that vaccine will be
invented soon to check this menace. Of course financial difficulties are now faced by
NCYI but we have faith in God and soon things will become normal. Let us pray to God to
do wonders as nothing is impossible for Him. Again thanking everybody for the help
rendered in the charitable activities in this period and with prayers I remain. May our lord
and savior bless us all.
Justice J.B. Koshy (Retd.)National President

YMCA Health & Healthy Living Centre, VelloreRajesh*(not his real name) who hails from West Bengal was undergoing treatment at Christian Medical Center (CMC) Vellore. Doctors announced that it is time Rajesh can return home since his treatment is complete. Rajesh and his family were excited to return home and packed bags and was looking forward to the journey with anticipation. Unfortunately, before his departure date lockdown was declared. Like millions around the country, Rajesh and his family were stranded far away from home. The eating joints were all closed and so also grocery shops. Surviving the lockdown is one thing, but having nourishment post treatment to regain his strength was another. Now with the lockdown in place the situation became critical not only for Rajesh and his family but all those who were sheltered in CMC's low-cost shelter called 'Chatram'. Chatram shelters people from other states who had to stay at Vellore for the long-term treatments at CMC. Now with the shops closed, CMC which used to provide one meal a day, found it difficult to source another meal for the Chatram lodgers.
YMCA Health and Healthy Living Centre,Vellore came forward to supply lunch to the lodgers. Rajesh and all others at Chatram were relieved when cooked meal was supplied to them by the YMCA. This arrangement was made for about 30 days. Rajesh says gratefully “I don't have to worry about my next meal.”The relief was clearly visible on Rajesh smiling face.
Note: YMCA Health and Healthy Living- a National Council of YMCAs of India project at Vellore additionally provided breakfast to Municipal Corporation Sanitary workers, face masks to zone 4 sanitary workers and primary health care workers.

Mr. Valmiki* (not his real name) is a migrant worker from Chitoor and was undergoing treatment at Kurnool. As part of treatment Mr. Valmiki was under high dose of antibiotic medicines. Mr. Valmiki required full meals to go along with the medicines. The sudden lockdown put him in tight spot. He was thinking of discontinuing the medicine since there is problem to access food. With those thoughts in his mind Mr. Valmiki shifted to Government facility at Kurnool.
YMCA Program Centre-Kurnool, a project of The National Council of YMCAs of India arranged to supply cooked meal for the inhabitants of the government shelter. Mr Valmiki continued with his medication without break while YMCA Program Centre provided hot cooked meal every day. Mr. Valmiki appreciates the noble gesture of the YMCA and their timely help. YMCA Program Centre- Kurnool continued to serve cooked meal to the government shelter for more than 20 days and toothpaste, toothbrush and soap was distributed too. A letter appreciation was received from the authorities appended herewith.

Mrs. G. Taralakshmi(not her real name) a widow lives in a village called Karupanur, Tirupattur with five daughters and a son. She is running a petty shop with a stock worth of Rs. 2000. While her children studies in government school she manages her petty shop from which she gets about Rs. 100/- to 150/- per day to run the family. This amount is not enough for Taralakshmi to manage the basic requirement for her family. In addition she has the burden of paying rent both for her family accommodation and the shop.
The lockdown declared due to COVID19 further complicated her family life. Her petty shop was closed due to want of further stock. She procures stock from a wholesaler located 3 kms away. Lack of public transport means Taralakhsmi had no option but to close her petty shop. This resulted in lack of food for the family. At this hour YMCA Tirupattur provided her with grocery items and food packets. This support sustained her family.

Counseling and Webinars

The Novel Corona Virus leading to COVID-19 was
sudden and scary. Despite the constraint of
financial resources, the YMCAs pan India
responded in a befitting manner, which was both
varied and community-driven. With its rich
heritage of service, especially in times of natural
and man-made crises over several decades, the
YMCA displayed its response-ability with
distinction.
The COVID-19 Report is a comprehensive
coverage of the size and substance of the YMCA's
proactive intervention over the last three months.
The YMCA closely coordinated its efforts in
consultation with government authorities wherever
possible. With fear and uncertainty all around,
YMCA volunteers, leaders and staff ventured out
to support the most vulnerable.
We have demonstrated before the world
community what warm hearts and willing hands
can do.
This issue is dedicated to the COVID-19 warriors
who came out of their comfort zone to help those
in need.
