Letter to donors
Dear Friends of Angel Charity for Children, Inc.,
Over the past 34 years, through the generosity of our individual donors, foundations and corporate partners we have positively impacted the lives of more than one million children in our community through the donation of over 25 million dollars. Thanks to the support of our loyal donors and dedicated volunteers, we begin another year of improving the lives of children in Pima County! This year Angel Charity will partner with five non-profit organizations and fund $747,010 to accomplish the following:
Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona – The Diaper Bank provides an emergency supply of diapers to children and families living at or below the poverty level. The Diaper Bank distributes 9 million diapers each year to infants and children in Pima County. The Diaper Bank is the nation’s first diaper bank and has served as the model for more than 220 diaper banks across the country since its inception 23 years ago. The Diaper Bank will receive $600,000 to eliminate its mortgage, allowing it to use those funds to buy more than 8.5 million additional diapers for the infants and children in our community.
Beads of Courage, Inc. - Since 2003, Beads of Courage has provided innovative Arts-in-Medicine programs for children coping with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses in Pima County. A gift of $100,000 will be awarded to Beads of Courage to establish the Angel Charity Arts-in-Medicine Program to improve the quality of life and help to alleviate the suffering of children coping with these long-term and life-threatening conditions. More than 8,000 children in Pima County will benefit from the Angel Charity Arts-in-Medicine Program
Ben’s Bells – Ben’s Bells provides educational programming throughout the community to support the development of kindness skills (regulating emotions, self- control, responsible decision-making, showing empathy for others, etc.). Learning kindness skills is vital for a child’s individual achievement and for community health. Ben’s Bells was awarded $27,010 to purchase a new, safe, and economical van so that it may continue to serve the children of Pima County for many years to come.
Erik Hite Foundation - The Erik Hite Foundation provides first-responder families affordable, high quality, center-based early childhood education with extended hours in a secure setting, and supportive services to accommodate first responders’ irregular schedules and unique needs. The Erik Hite Foundation was awarded $10,000 to provide scholarships for summer camps and supervised care for Pima County’s financially-needy first responder families.
Junior Achievement of Arizona (JA) - JA works to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. JA has been educating K-12 students about entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy since 1957. JA was awarded $10,000 to launch the JA Finance Park® Virtual Program in Tucson. Successfully offering this virtual program will enable students in low income Tucson schools to learn these critical life lessons.
The needs of children in our community are greater than ever. Please join us in helping these well-deserving organizations by contributing to our campaign. Thank you for your consideration of Angel Charity and this year’s beneficiaries.

Who we are
Why donate?
Angel Charity for Children, Inc. is a non-profit organization comprised of 150 devoted members representing a cross-section of the Tucson community. Through innovative fundraising, these dedicated and effective Angels are committed to providing Pima County’s children with the vibrant future they so richly deserve.
Founded in 1983 by Tucsonan Louise Thomas, Angel Charity for Children, Inc. retired the mortgage and expanded and remodeled the Ronald McDonald House in its first year of working miracles. Each year since then, a thoroughly researched, tax-exempt children’s agency (or multiple agencies) benefits from the year-round fundraising program.
• Arizona ranks among the lowest in the country for funding human services. Your contribution will help us move up in the ranks by ensuring the longevity of local agencies that provide much needed services for our most vulnerable population.
• As a donor you can add to the over 25 million dollars already raised as we begin our 35th year of raising funds on behalf of the children in our community.
• We emphasize funding a one-time capital expenditure that retires a mortgage, remodels or renovates an existing structure, or constructs a new facility.
• We fund only agencies holding 501(c)3 status which meet the needs of children in Pima County.
• With no paid staff or executive director, we maximize the value of your donation. Your gift directly benefits the children of Pima County.
• Our beneficiary selection process includes a detailed application, multiple presentations, a thorough and professional analysis of financial statements as well as an investigation of mortgages and leases, and a site visit to help ensure each beneficiary is a viable, sustainable entity.
• A variety of children’s needs are considered for funding regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual preference or national origin.
• We are ranked among the top 100 charities by USA Today and have consistently achieved the highest rating with Charity Navigator and Guidestar.

Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona
Project Description: The Diaper Bank provides an emergency supply of diapers to children and families living at or below the poverty line through 53 partner agencies in Southern Arizona. With only three full-time staff member equivalents and more than 2,000 volunteer hours, the Diaper Bank distributes 9 million diapers per year to infants and children in Pima County.
The Diaper Bank is the nation’s first diaper bank, and for 23 years, has served as the model for more than 220 diaper banks across the country. Diapers are the single largest expense outside of food, clothing and shelter in a family’s budget, costing up to $100 a month. One in three American mothers struggle to provide an essential change of diapers to their children. Diapers are not covered by WIC, food stamps, or any other safety net program. In order to hold down a job or get an education, parents need access to child care, which requires a full day’s supply of diapers before a child can be dropped off.
The Diaper Bank was selected by Angel Charity to receive a gift of $600,000 to eliminate it’s mortgage. By eliminating the mortgage, the Diaper Bank will allocate those funds to buy more than 8.5 million diapers for the babies and children in our community who need them.
Amount to be funded: $600,000
