Principal’s Message Good afternoon Jesmond Public School. Aboriginal experience On Monday, the Stage 3 Aboriginal students went on an excursion to Port Stephens with students from Plattsburg and Heaton Public School. They met Worimi elder Leigh Ridgeway. Leigh spoke to the students about the Worimi area and the importance of totems in Aboriginal culture. Students then went on a dolphin cruise and were able to swim in the boom net. All students and staff had a fabulous day.
Swim School Swim School is well underway and all students are having a fantastic time! Before each swimming lesson, the instructors take us through a water safety talk where we are learning to be safe in and around the water. Each group is working on different skills such as flutter kicks, floating, treading water, freestyle, backstroke and more. All students are displaying safe and respectful behaviour and are sensible role models representing Jesmond Public School.
Catch Up Swimming Lessons The three swimming lessons that we are catching up on due to the bushfires and weather last week are being held in Week 8 on Monday 2nd, Tuesday 3rd & Wednesday 4th December from 12:45pm to 1:30pm. The venue has changed to Stockton Pool and students will still arrive back to school before 3:00pm. Thank you to Miss Fairhall, Mrs Schimann, Mr Conway, Ms Sandberg and Mrs Klingl for organising and supporting the students whilst they participated in Swim School.

Sun Safety Congratulations to all the students who wear school hats. We will continue to encourage all children to wear school hats. Over the next few months we will be moving towards wide brimmed hats instead of caps. Wide brimmed hats provide more protection to children's faces, ears and neck. Please remember that children not wearing school hats will not be able to play at recess and lunch, in keeping with the sun safe policy. Sun screen should also be applied to your children before they come to school. Kindergarten Orientation Kindergarten Orientation has been running over the last few weeks. Last Tuesday, families made a healthy wrap with their child and participated in an information session with a dietitian. Children have been engaging with the morning activities and created their own green sheep, a basket of healthy food and completed a counting activity centered around an octopus. Next week, the children will get to meet their Year 6 Buddies for 2020 and they will participate in a treasure hunt around the school, locating important places. In this last session, Miss Bull and Mrs Baker will be providing lots of information to our families about starting school in 2020. This will be a longer session in the hall which will include a power point presentation. The school uniform shop will also be available and OOSH will also provide more information about their after school program.
Woolworths Earn & Learn A huge thank you to Woolworths Jesmond for always supporting Jesmond Public School. Last Friday, Service Supervisor Lisa presented students with art and craft supplies as part of the Earn and Learn initiative.
5 Cent Challenge Congratulations 1R for winning the 5 cent challenge with a total of $22.95. The students in 1R will select a song for the bell. The students raised $121.90 towards the new school sound system.
