Page 1 Dear Parents and Carers It’s been another busy couple of weeks at Carlton Public School! Today I want to recognise and thank the many members of our Carlton Community who contribute so much to provide wonderful opportunities for children beyond the normal lessons that happen every day. So many of these events that add to the richness and quality of school life are organised and supported by teachers and parents on a voluntary basis. Thank you to the wonderful parents who volunteered every week for the B.E.A.R Reading program, Mentoring program, School banking & Home Reading program this year. P &C, Father’s Day Stall and Fathers Matter Breakfast The P&C will be working with the school staff to arrange and conduct the breakfast and they will be running some small fundraising competitions during the morning as part of the fun. We’re looking forward to making the Fathers Matter Breakfast as successful and enjoyable as last year as we promote the goals of inclusive community participation, respect and kindness as part of the school Kidsmatter initiative. Thank you to the staff who have volunteered to organise some fun activities for our upcoming Fathers Matter Breakfast tomorrow morning. We are again very excited and we do hope that you can vary your normal arrangements to spend some time joining in this activity with your children. The breakfast will begin at 7:30am and there will be a variety of activities set up throughout the hall, playground and in the library for everyone to enjoy. Some activities include ball games; table tennis; chess; computer games; card making; photo booth and many more. All the school bands will be performing. Thank you also to the parents who have been involved in school and P&C activities including providing the school banking, book club services and Fathers Matter Gift Stall for us as well as organising the upcoming Father’s Day Breakfast. A special thank you goes to all the parent helpers who organised the Fathers Day Stall. The children were offered an opportunity to select from a large variety of gifts. I’m sure they chose wisely and purchased a gift that their dad will appreciate. Kindergarten Enrolment 2019 This week invitations and information have been sent about our Kindergarten Orientation Program to those families who have enrolled their children to start school in 2019. I expect that we will again have around 120 children in our Kindergarten classes. However, only around 78 families have completed the enrolment process. If you have friends or neighbours living within our school zone who you know will have school age children next year, please encourage them to come to the school to complete the process or call the office on 9587 3717 so we can send them an enrolment package. Any child who turns five years of age before 31 July 2019 is eligible to start school. Participation in the Orientation Program is the best way to assist them with the start to school.

4Cs- Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, Critical Reflection The staff have been attending twilight meetings within our Community of Practice with Mortdale PS, Hurstville South PS, Hurstville PS and university partners, Miranda Jefferson and Michael Anderson on the 4Cs to work with educators to facilitate transformation that makes learning responsive to the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. Our approaches embed creativity, collaboration, critical reflection and communication in learning, teaching and leadership.

Just look at the wonderful library program Ms Phillips and Mrs Afonso have developed.

During CPS Library lessons teacher librarians will continue to encourage self-

directed learners by stating learning intentions and by showing students lesson

success criteria. We continue to embed lessons with the 4C transformational

learning capabilities: CREATIVITY, CRITICAL REFLECTION, COMMUNICATION,

COLLABORATION.

In keeping with our School Plan – Teacher Librarirans during library lessons will

refer to the Learning Dispositions wheel for:

INTERPERSONAL: Focus, Grit, Curiosity

INTRAPERSONAL: Influence, Empathy, Teamwork

COGNITION: Think why and How, Make and Express Meaning, Build New Ideas

Styles of learning (we will add these into our student learning intentions).

Commonly identified learning disposition that are

particularly relevant when thinking about future-

focused practices, include:

Being Patient and Persistent, being flexible, being an Ubiquitous Learner, being Open

minded, Being Reflective, Being Resourceful, Being a Risk Taker

P&C News

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads – Hope to see you all on Friday!

Fathers Matter Breakfast – Friday 31 August We will be holding the Fathers Matter BBQ breakfast before school on Friday 31st August

for the children and all the special Dads, Grandfathers and Uncles in their lives. N.B.

Breakfast must be pre-ordered, and the last day for orders was Wednesday 22nd August.

We are ASKING FOR VOLUNTEERS particularly from the female school community to cook

and serve breakfast to our wonderful dads, so please come on Friday morning and help

out!

Everyone is welcome to come along to the Fathers Matter celebrations on Friday 31st August whether you have

purchased breakfast or not. The teachers and school staff prepare wonderful activities for the students and whole

school community. It is really worth making the effort to come early (anytime from 7:30am) and enjoy spending the

morning with your children and other members from our school community.

Father’s Day Photo Booth

In previous years the teachers have taken photos during the Fathers Day Breakfast and given them to the families as

a memento of the event. Unfortunately due to the Fathers Day Breakfast being on a Friday families will need to take

their own photos on their own cameras.

Father’s Day Guessing Competition

This year the P&C is running a Guessing Competition to coincide with the Fathers Matter breakfast. There are 3 great

hampers to be won! All you have to do is guess the correct number of M&Ms in the jar, located in the office leading

up to Friday. 1 guess = $1, 3 guesses = $2. Good luck!

Fathers Day Stall – ITEMS STILL AVAILABLE!

Some items will still be available at the Fathers Matter Breakfast if you still need to get something for Dad! Thanks to

all the helpers who made the Fathers Day Stall a great success!

P&C meetings occur twice a term on the Tuesday of Week 3 and Week 7, at 7:00pm in the staffroom.

If there is an area of school life that you’d like to know more about, please contact the P&C at

[email protected] or via Facebook. We’d love your input on what YOU would like to hear about in future P&C

meetings.

School Disco – Next term The P&C have started work in organising a school disco to happen early in term 4.
