Principal’s Message

We hope that all our dads were

made to feel very special on Sunday.

Our school was blessed to have many

of our fathers present for our Fa-

ther’s Day liturgy. We hope also

that you enjoyed opening the gifts

that your children were able to pur-

chase for you from our Father’s Day

stall. Thanks to our hard working

P&F committee organising this for

us.

There are many highlights in our school year but one of the significant ones is

when our community comes together to witness the Sacrament of Confirmation.

It is a privilege to be part of this celebration. This past weekend it was a proud

moment when our Year 6 students and their families were able to participate in

the conferring of this Sacrament. Congratulations to all our students who par-

ticipated in this momentous occasion. We are very proud to be a part in the

Faith journey of our students.

Our thanks must go to the Year 6 teachers for their dedication in preparing the

students and to Mr Morrell for his organisation of the uplifting Liturgy of the

Confirmation Masses. Many of our staff were present at these Masses to lend a

hand. Thanks to them also for their generosity.

Yesterday our school leaders attended an official Diocesan farewell at the Ca-

thedral in Wagga for Bishop

Hanna. We felt very privileged

to be a part of this celebration.

Bishop Hanna will be retiring at

the end of this month. He has

News from the REC

Confirmation 2016 d On the weekend of the 3rd & 4th September, Sacred Heart Parish celebrated three Sacramental masses where

55 of our Year 6 students were Confirmed by Bishop Gerard Hanna. This was a significant weekend not only

for our candidates but also for Bishop Hanna who will confirm only one more group of children before he re-

tires. All three masses were a success and much of this was made possible by the overwhelming support and

presence of the St Patrick's staff. The Year 6 teachers; Miss Loretta Zanotto, Mrs Kathy Grant and Mrs Mar-

yanne Dodd are to be commended for the time and effort they have given in preparing the children.

We were so proud of our candidates who contributed to many parts of the mass and conducted themselves

reverently at all times. They truly appeared to be filled with the Spirit as they left the church with their red

stoles and certificates. The church was decorated so beautifully and the Gospel and offertory processions

were symbolic and meaningful. A special thank you to Nilva Close and Belinda Aventi who attended all three

masses and gifted us with their musical talents. Your presence at each mass was truly appreciated.

Congratulations to our newly Confirmed children and may you be filled with the Fruits and the Gifts of the

Holy Spirit for the rest of your lives.

Father’s Day Liturgy

Our Father’s Day liturgy was celebrated on Friday 2nd September and was received well by our school community. I

am very grateful for all the fathers who played an active role in the liturgy. How wonderful for our children to see

their dads taking part and how proud of their dads they must have been! Everyone got a kick out of the iMovie

that the Year 6 students put together. It made us laugh but it also showed us how amazing our dads are and the

weird and wonderful things that their children love about them. I hope everyone had a wonderful day celebrating

their dads.

From the Assistant Principal

Boys and Education

St Patrick’s is in the process of writing and implementing a program that understands, appreciates

and embraces the development of a boy’s education. The program is being implemented because

we are seeing a great need to engage boys and offer more for boys during the school day. Part of

the program will be learning how to interact respectfully and appropriately with their peers as well

as build their identity as a male in society.

I, along with Mr David Curry and Mr Shane Fitzpatrick attended the Boys and Education conference

in Melbourne where we were exposed to amazing resources and initiatives that we are looking for-

ward to incorporating into the program. Shane has been employed one day a week for the remain-

der of the school year to help us with the initiative. He has years of experience working with chal-

lenging behaviours and in particular, with boys in high schools. Shane has already been working

with small groups of boys in the upper levels to establish relationships and working groups for the

program.

The school is also in discussion with Anthony Hood, the CSO Education and Well Being Officer to

help us run a parallel program for girls that will focus on social and emotional skills. There is a grow-

ing need for all children, but especially young girls, to be educated on how we interact with one an-

other, particularly on social networks. We aim to keep our girls informed and safe as their friend-

ship circles grow larger and become more independent from their parents.

From the P&F Committee

Next P&F Meeting

All parents are invited to attend the next P&F meeting on Monday 12th September at 7pm held in the Front Office/Staff

Room. We will be considering and discussing proposed amendments to the P&F constitution, which will also be voted on at

this meeting.

Father's Day Gift Stall

A big thank you to all the families who donated gifts to our Father's Day Stall. We hope all the Dads enjoyed their day on Fa-

ther's Day with the gift their child/children had bought for them at the stall. The students were certainly excited on stall day!

Thank you also to the parents who gave up their time to beautifully wrap and organise the gifts.

Term 3 School Disco

Our final School Disco for the year is coming up fast. It will be held NEXT WEEK in Week 9 on Friday 16th Septem-

ber in the Father O'Dea Hall. A note will be sent home this week asking for our awesome parents to help us on

the night once again!

Jackie Murphy Netball Gala Day – 1st September 2016

On Thursday 1st September St Patrick’s sent two girls netball teams, one from Year 4 and one from Year 5, to

participate in the Championship divisions of the Jackie Murphy Netball Gala Day.

We were very blessed with the weather at JC King Netball Courts in Albury with only one very light shower on

the day.

Our Year 4 team had a very successful day winning 3 out of 4 games. In the first game they played against Sa-

cred Heart Kooringal and came away with a win 7-3. In the second game they came up against the tough com-

petition of Mater Dei, Wagga Wagga and were defeated 9-2. It was great to see our girls perform well against

such pressure. In the third game they also had a win against a joint team of St Michael’s Coolamon & St

Brendan’s Ganmain 10-2. In their final game of the day they played a great game against St Joseph’s Wagga

winning 10-3.

Unfortunately our Year 5 team did not come away with any wins on the day, but a great day was had by all. The

girls were very adaptable playing positions they had never tried before due to being down one player due to

illness. It was great to see the team pull together and give it 100%. These girls had a tough draw, up against

teams such as St Patrick’s Albury, St Anne’s North Albury, Mater Dei, Wagga Wagga and Henschke Wagga Wag-

ga. In the last game of the day against Holy Spirit Lavington the girls gave it their all, only going down by 2

points.

It was great to see both teams have a fun filled day and they all showed great sportsmanship.

Congratulations to all our girls who participated and thank you to those parents and carers who drove our girls

over for the day.

A special thank you to Mikaela Quinn & Catherine Wren for coaching our teams on the day, and Annette Waide and Alyssa Quinn who umpired all our games. Your efforts are much appreciated

LOST PROPERTY

There is an astounding amount of lost property in the Administration building. There are many school jumpers and jack-

ets that do not have any names on them. Could you please check in see if your child has lost any article of clothing and/or

lunch box or drink bottle.

Term 3 in Kindergarten

This term one of our main focuses in Kindergarten is Dream Time stories. Students in Kindergarten

have been participating in lessons to learn about the importance of storytelling in Indigenous cul-

ture. Students have listened to, read, viewed, illustrated and responded to dreaming stories. In

week 6, we invited Aunty Mary from the Catholic Schools Office in Wagga Wagga to share her

knowledge and expertise with the students. Students had the opportunity to have a turn of using

some of the traditional Aboriginal artefacts e.g. spinning the woomera and exploring the didgeri-

doo. It was an exciting and engaging experience for all students and staff in Kindergarten.

Pre-schools within the Griffith community have started to bring groups of children to visit our

school. They have been joining in small group activities with our current Kindergarten students.

Our students have thoroughly enjoyed teaching the pre-schoolers how to play games and complete

the activities. Our transition program at St Patrick’s Primary school is underway. It is taking place

every Wednesday until the middle of Term 4.

Every fortnight we interact with our Year 6 Buddies. Students read, learn sight words, play ball

games and get to know each other. This is a valuable learning opportunity for Year 6 and Kinder-

garten students.
