This workshop in the Metadata Principles and Practices focuses on

the role of expressing relationships in metadata to enhance

10:00AM-1:00PM

training for librarians, detailing the contours of federal and local

privacy law, as well as providing information on how to respond

when served with an information request such as a National

Security Letter, administrative subpoena, or warrant.

Alison will close the workshop by detailing some of the

Speak to Impress: Public Speaking Skills

for Librarians and Archivists

Farmingdale Public Library

10:00AM-12:00PM

Public speaking is a vital skill in any profession. As librarians and

archivists, we participate in meetings, provide instruction to the

public, pitch to clients, and address colleagues regularly. Effective

communication is key to conveying our messages, whether they

inform, persuade, or direct.

Content matters, and so does delivery. In order to maximize our

credibility and showcase our expertise in the workplace, attention

must also be paid to preparation, non-verbal cues, and more.

Join us for this interactive 2-hour session that will provide

practical tips for speaking before an audience. No previous

experience or knowledge is required. Attendees will have an

opportunity to put these tips into practice and gain constructive

feedback from a supportive audience during the workshop.

Who should attend: Anyone interested in becoming more

comfortable speaking before an audience.

By the end of this program, participants will:

▪ Learn tips for communicating more effectively

▪ Gain more confidence with speaking before an audience

Presenter: Karen Erani, member of Toastmasters International

This interactive workshop is limited to 18 participants and no more

than 2 participants per institution.

FEE: $25 Member; $80 Nonmember; $20 Retired Member/
