GED test resultsThe Texas Education Agency (TEA) is pleased to announce the launch of its new automated system for ordering General Education Develop-ment (GED) certificates. GED test takers and certificate holders can now immediately download and print their official GED certificates, complete with test scores by visiting http://www.texged.com. GED certificates can only be obtained through this website. Both the old style certificate and the new Certificate of High School Equivalency are to be recognized, however, TEA will only be issuing the new certificate for examinees.
Additionally, in order to increase the level of customer service provided to GED customers, the agency is implementing an improved, decentralized process. While TEA will continue to serve as the state administrator for GED, the local GED testing centers across the state will now be providing direct customer service, responding to, and supporting GED customers. Local GED testing centers will serve as the primary information resource for all GED inquiries.
To learn more about obtaining a GED, locating a local GED testing center, or any other GED-related information, and to order GED certificates online, go to http://www.texged.com. Please note that orders for GED certificates can only be placed online at this website. For GED custom-ers who do not have access to a computer, please direct them to call 1-800-62-MYGED (1-800-626-9433) to find their local GED testing center. Please note that TEA staff will no longer receive or respond to telephone inquiries regarding GED.

informAtion technology certificAtesThe Information Technology (IT) department offers a variety of courses in some of the fastest growing IT fields. HCC offers state-of-the-art training with expert instructors that will get you out of the classroom and into the workforce in as little as two to nine months. Current starting salaries for jobs in the IT field range from $30,000-$60,000 a year. Register Today!
Information technology (IT) has become a vital and integral part of every business. From multi-national corporations who maintain networks and databases to small businesses that own a single computer, IT plays a role. The use of computer technology in business makes our lives simpler by enabling faster communication, providing tools for more effective work, and giving us access to vast information. But what happens when computer failure occurs or the network connection goes down, production comes to a halt.
That’s where IT specialists come in. They get computer networks, or user computers, up and running after a failure but that’s not all they do. Their work varies widely: they upgrade computer software; set up and maintain the servers on which the company’s applications run; and build and maintain the databases that users rely on to gather information to serve customers.
If continued learning, opportunity for advancement, and staying on the cutting edge of computer technology interests you then HCC can help you meet your training goals in the exciting field of Information Technology. Let us work together on your path to success.

AttendanceContinuing Education courses have attendance requirements, and also require satisfactory completion of the course objectives in order for students to receive a certificate of successful completion.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) One CEU is 10 contact hours of successful participation/completion in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction. CEUs are not substituted for college credit hours, but rather are a means of reporting continuing education activities. Transcripts listing CEU credits satisfactorily completed are available on request. CEUs are recognized internationally as a measure of substantial professional education and training.
Notification of Class ChangesEvery effort is made to begin and hold class at the designated time. Each class is contingent on the required minimum number of students. Occasionally, extenuating circumstances arise requiring a cancellation or delay. In such cases, we attempt to notify all students by telephone.
Houston Community College reserves the right, when necessary to cancel classes, alter schedules, or substitute instructors.
Students are not notified if a class has made. Students are contacted only in the event of a class cancellation or change.
Refund Policy For Continuing Education courses offered through the School of Continuing Education, a full refund can only be awarded if a student withdraws before or on the first class meeting date or if the class is cancelled. There are no partial refunds.
Refunds are processed as soon as possible. They are generally mailed four to six weeks following the last day to apply for a refund. Any refund mailed to the name and address on record is considered delivered. The Stop Payment Fee to reissue a refund check mailed to an incorrect address is $20. Tuition and fees paid directly to the institution by a sponsor, grants, loans, donor, or scholarship shall be refunded to the source rather than directly to the student.
Change of ScheduleA Program Adjustment Form must be initiated through the Campus office of Continuing Education for all class changes.
DisclaimerThis schedule has been carefully prepared to assure that all information is accurate and as complete as possible. However, the college reserves the right to make changes, which may result in deviations from the information in the schedule content.
Certificate of CompletionCertification is awarded upon successful completion of required courses and submission of official HCC transcript to the School of Continuing Education. Successful certificate completion requires 80% attendance and achievement of learning objectives in all designated courses.
Participants may also elect to take any individual course separate from certificate requirements.
Eligibility for EnrollmentContinuing Education courses are open to individuals 17 years of age or older.
Senior Tuition WaiverSeniors age 55 and over may enroll in specified courses and receive a $10 tuition discount waiver per continuing education course. Proof of age will be required.
PrerequisitesMost Continuing Education courses are open to students who feel they can benefit from the instruction; however, some courses are restricted to those students with specific prerequisites. Please check course descriptions.
Textbooks, Supplies, and Materials For most non-computer classes, students will be notified of the need for texts, supplies, and other materials at the first class meeting. Textbook selections are kept within a moderate price range, and the cost of supplies and materials for classes is based upon the size or complexity of the project chosen by the student.
The appropriate text can be found by class number. Students are expected to purchase their computer books prior to the first day of class and to bring their books to each class meeting.
Emergency Closings In the event of severe weather, such as hurricanes, ice storms or other acts of nature that may create hazardous conditions and/or extended power outages, college administrators may find it necessary to close the college. In this case, students and faculty are advised to listen to local area radio and television stations for announcements and updates or log on to: www.school-closings.net.
Dropping a ClassPrior to the first scheduled class meeting, students must complete a Drop form in a Campus/Center office. Requests made after class has begun result in No Refund. Materials fees paid to instructors are not refundable.
