ADVANCING OUR CAUSEIt is an exciting time to be a part of the YMCA of Greater Cleveland where strengthening community is our cause.

From athletics to academic achievement, healthy bodies to disease prevention, and unlimited fun to unlimited possibilities, our Y is doing so much more. In 2013, we served nearly 100,000 people in Northeast Ohio through programs that nurture the potential of our youth, improve the health and well-being of children and adults, and provide help and hope to our neighbors. Our commitment to strengthen communities across the Greater Cleveland region is stronger than ever.

Our members, volunteers, staff, and partners – each person in the Y movement – is a critical piece to our success. We all share a passion for strengthening our community.

OUR MISSION

OUR VISION

OUR VALUES

To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

We embrace the values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith in all our interactions and decisions.

To be the premier community-based, charitable organization that embraces collaborations to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.

OUR AREAS OF FOCUSYOUTH DEVELOPMENTAll kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve, under the guidance of adults who care about them and believe in their potential. We see every interaction with young people as an opportunity for learning and development.

HEALTHY LIVINGHealth and well-being are all about balance. That’s why we help people and families build and maintain healthy habits for spirit, mind and body in their everyday lives. By helping kids, adults, families and seniors from all backgrounds improve their health and well-being, we build a stronger community.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITYWith our doors open to all, we work every day to connect people from all backgrounds and support those who need us most. We take on the most urgent needs in our community and inspire a spirit of service in return. Our members, volunteers and staff demonstrate the power of what we can achieve by giving back together.

The Y’s Impact 2013 HIGHLIGHTS

HEALTHY LIVING Improving the community’s health and well-being.

At the Y, we believe that being healthy means more than simply being physically active. It is about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body. The Y is a leading voice on health and well-being issues—and a leader in fighting chronic disease—and is committed to empowering people to lead fuller lives. We bring families closer together, promote healthy living and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, millions of youth, adults and families receive the support, guidance and resources they need to become and stay healthy.

The Y strengthens community through:

Diabetes Prevention The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is the most evidence-based diabetes prevention program in the world with high success rates in preventing or delaying the onset of type 2 diabetes — 58% for adults of all ages and 71% for those individuals over age 60.

Group Exercise and Personal TrainingThe Y’s certified personal trainers and group exercise instructors provide members with over 500 class options per week across our Association — and empower people to maintain or improve physical activity, health and wellness.

Senior Fitness Over 18,000 SilverSneakersTM members participate in specialty classes designed especially for those 65-and-over.

Aquatics In 2013, over 11,000 individuals learned to swim at one of our Ys.

Clevelanders in MotionThis program works with grassroots and institutional partners to advance opportunities for increased access to healthy and affordable foods and safe and attractive roads and sidewalks on which to walk, run or bicycle.

In 2013, the YMCA of Greater Cleveland facilitated twenty-five year-long class series — 10 are at some point of the sixteen weekly core sessions and 15 are in monthly maintenance or totally completed.

A message from the President and CEO

The YMCA of Greater Cleveland is committed to nurturing the potential of youth through building confidence at summer camp, academic enrichment in safe afterschool programs, and foundational skills and values in our child care programs; to improve the nation’s health and well-being through combating obesity and chronic disease by providing the support and resources people need to make positive change; and to give back and support our neighbors by empowering people with the resources to improve their lives and connect and contribute to the community, such as with job training, housing, and offering programs and services to children, adults and families who need financial assistance.

We can proudly say that we have served those in our community by first listening to their requests and then responding to their needs for 160 years.

Together we’re changing the lives of children, adults and families across Northeast Ohio at more service locations than you may realize:
