  • Description: I created a brochure on full-time adventurers folded

    in thirds.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): First I created a paper rough

draft of what I wanted my brochure to look like. I love to travel so the

idea of designing it like a passport came easy to me. I used Adobe

Illustrator to create my logo and gold foil text. I learned how to use

the masking tool to create my desired gold effect. Then I used Adobe

InDesign to bring my text and other design elements together.

Message: I am informing the masses of the world-wide

    wanderers.

Audience: My audience is everyone who is interested in

    adventuring.

Top Thing Learned: The top thing I learned was how to

    successfully text-wrap images.

Color scheme and color names: Triadic: red, blue, yellow

  • Description: For this project I designed personal business cards

and letterhead as if I was a freelance writer.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): First I scanned in my coasters

so that I had the floral print, and used the magic wand tool to delete

the background from the image. Then using my paintbrush I hand

lettered hailey and contact to give the design a very personable

feel. After finding a blue background that I liked I turned down the

opacity so that it would look faded. Finally after creating my contact

info grid I linked all the design elements into an InDesign document.

Message: My message is that I provide freelance writing

    services.

Audience: My audience is everyone that is looking for a

    freelance writer.

Top Thing Learned: I learned how to properly use InDesign for

    linking other Adobe files into.

  • Description: This was a project used to test our skills and

knowledge of Adobe Illustrator. I created a custom postcard

    company titled Pretty Post.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): First I had to create my

sketches. I had a lot of different ideas incorporating envelopes and

mail boxes, but finally decided on a cute sparrow-esque bird. Using

the ellipse and rounded rectangle tool I created various shapes and

pieced them together to create the bird. Then I layered them so

that the tail feathers were on very bottom, and the wings were the

topmost layer. I chose to use a light teal on the wings and tail feathers

as a highlight, and a darker teal for the body and head. I then found

a font that reminded me of typewriter keys, because I like the artsy

    feel.

Message: My message is that I create decorated mail.

Audience: My audience is those that enjoy giving and receiving

    old-fashioned paper mail.

Top Thing Learned: The top thing I learned was how to

manipulate standard geometric shapes to create new objects.

Color Scheme and Color Names: Monochromatic-Teal

  • Description: This is a photo montage I created with an excerpt

from a General Conference talk given by Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, Steps taken while designing):

First I researched pictures that I would want to use in my design on

Pinterest. After deciding on using an image of the Salt Lake City

temple and the galaxy, I pulled both up in Photoshop. Then I added

a filter overtop of the galaxy photo. With the lasso tool I cut out the

temple and pasted it in the cosmos. Next I added a masking layer over

the top of the temple so that I could blend the images together. With

a white paintbrush I blended the two together until I had the opacity

that I desired. Finally I added the quote with two separate fonts.

Message: The message of my design is to invoke a sense of

wonderment and awe at the great scale of the eternities.

Audience: My intended audience is Christians.

Top Thing Learned: The top thing I learned was how to use the

masking tool and white paintbrush to create the gradual blending

    between multiple photos.

Filter / Colorization used and where it was applied: Warm filter

added directly to the image of the galaxy.

Color scheme and color names: Analogous: Indigo, Purple, &

    Violet

  • Description: A photo project in which we were required to take a

clear, high-res image and create a design for a prospective employer.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I used my

Canon T3i DSLR camera to first take an image of my watch. I then

went through the Four-Step editing process that we were taught in

class to make the photo look better. Then I used the help of online

tutorials to create the semi-translucent text box overlay. I used the

eyedropper tool to create my color swatches that would match the

    colors of my image.

Message: My message is that we all need to make time to be

    outside and enjoy nature.

Audience: My audience is anyone that spends too much inside.

Top Thing Learned: I think the top thing I learned was how to

create the white overlay for my title text. It took a lot of switching

back and forth between Photoshop and the online tutorial, but I think

    the time paid off.

Color scheme and color names: Triadic: lime, brick, & indigo.

  • Description: This is a website I used to showcase a logo I

    designed.

    Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):

Message: My message is that I offer custom hand-made mail.

Audience: My audience is anyone that is interested in hand

    made note cards or postcards

Top Thing Learned: The top thing I learned while doing this

project is that HTML and CSS are very sensitive, especially when you

    typing in tags!

Color scheme and color hex(s): Monochromatic. (#0D7877,

    #79cdd0)

Changes made to the CSS: I changed my title font and copy font

in the CSS. I altered the alignment of my logo so that it sat on the left

side of the white screen, and changed my link text to the title of my

    blog.

    Word Count: 300+

  • Description: A color full-bleed event ad to promote a

fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner. For this event ad

assignment I decided to showcase my friends closet sale.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): First I

scanned in an image onto my laptop and opened it in Microsoft. I had

to make sure I used an image that had sufficient negative space that

could be filled with text. Then, I created text boxes to fill with content.

After filling in the text I changed the font of girl gone fashion title to

better reflect the blogger. Then I color-matched the body copy to the

panelling on the window, and the title to the red in her dress.

Message: I am advertising for a Closet Clean Out for a blogger

who wants to raise money for The Shade Tree , an organization that

offers aid to women and children in crisis.

Audience: The target audience is the readers of girl gone

    fashion.

Color scheme and color names: Spilt-Complementary- Teal,

    Red, Orange

Top Thing Learned: I learned how to align text with an image to

    allow for good flow.

  • Description: This is an image of my Project One Flier in which I

designed a layout for a Leadership Conference. The flier includes an

image, a description, the DTP, and the companys logo and website.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): First had

to decide on which rough draft I wanted to build one. Then, with

the guidance of by FOCUS textbook and complementary YouTube

tutorials, I started the layout of my flier. I followed Sister Esplins

technique of laying a foundation by inserting colored boxes to

designate where i wanted to put down an image or insert text. With

my base set, I added my textual content and images. After those were

on the page I went through and center aligned. Post-revision process I

changed fonts, allowed for more white space, and left-aligned.

Message: The message I am conveying is the announcement of

a leadership conference for soon-to-be graduates who are interested

    in cultivating improved leadership skills.

Audience: My target audience is all graduating seniors.

Top Thing Learned: The top thing I learned was that white space

is essential to a design, if all the space is consumed by objects then

    the design becomes too busy.
