1. PREFACE
The LSS is a support system and service for TVET lecturers to improve on their delivery
of the NC(V) programmes and related subjects. The LSS is meanwhile also of both
content, pedagogical and didactical relevance to the delivery of the Report 191
programmes
Colleges have designated a senior head office based manager to be their College LSS
Manager. The LSS Manager is responsible for that college lecturers make optimum use of
the LSS.
At college level three types of College LSS subscribers can be defined:
1. LSS Managers: responsible for facilitating the use of the LSS at college level, and
formal contact person for LSS related issues on national level
2. College Managers (typically positions are Campus Managers, Head of
Departments; Subject Field Coordinators; Vocational Programmes Managers,
Subject Coordinators, etc.); responsible for college academic quality and hence
for supporting lecturers in curriculum delivery. They also play a key role in
ensuring lecturer use of the LSS and will from time to time perform duties as LSS
Facilitators at their college.
3. Lecturers: responsible for the delivery of the assigned subjects
This document constitutes a guideline and a tool for the College LSS Manager to induct
(new) subscribers to the LSS and in particular to the use of the LSS Portal Website.
2. THE INDUCTION METHOD
The LLS induction will be based on a so-called Training of Trainers approach.
The only realistic way of managing the LSS induction to subscribers is for the College LSS
Managers to work through their College Managers.
The number of College Managers to be trained in this way will be different for different
colleges and each College LSS Manager will need to assess their own requirements.
The LSS Manager and the trained College Managers will thereafter train small groups of
lecturers. This is visualized in the chart below:

The LSS Manager will select the most appropriate method of training the College
Managers.
3. INDUCTION PROGRAMME HAS 3 COMPONENTS
The induction consists of three components:
A. Introduction Workshop
B. Thematic Workshops
C. Subject Workshops (focussed on NC(V) delivery)
A. INTRODUCTION WORKSHOP
Objective:
To introduce the LSS and related benefits, functionalities and tools
B. THEMATIC WORKSHOPS – MY LSS PORTAL UTILISATION
Objective:
To practice the use of the LSS MY PORTAL, for lecturers to obtains DHET and generic
information and for them to upgrade their generic teaching competencies (didactic-
pedagogical)
C. NC(V) SUBJECT WORKSHOPS – SUBJECT SITE UTILISATION
Objective:
To practice the use of LSS SUBJECT SITES, for lecturers to strengthen the delivery of the
Topics of the Subjects they teach. This is subject to the availability of Subject Sites.

4. PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION
The Introduction Workshop consists of two modules; Module 1 focusing on the
functionalities of the LSS My Portal site and Module 2 on the functionalities of the Subject
Site(s)..
For College Managers, both modules should be offered. For Lecturers, Module 2 is of
course only applicable to lecturers for which a relevant Subject site is available.
It is suggested to conduct both module 1 and 2 on the same day. Depending on the
numbers of colleges managers to be trained and the amount of lecturers for whom a
Subject Site is available, the college can decide to organise the workshops at their
Central Office or at campuses.
The workshops need to be re-conducted for new managers and lecturers joining the
college.
5. SESSION MODALITY
The workshops are (and need to be) structured in such a way that participants can work
on their own pace and/or in pairs, facilitated by the responsible College manager.

GUIDE
PURPOSE OF GUIDE
To provide College LSS Managers and College Managers with a Guide supported by tools
on how to introduce new college subscribers to the LSS.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVE
To introduce the benefits, functionalities and tools of the LSS.
PREPARATION
1. Decide on general methodology – LSS Manager to facilitate all sessions unless
delegated to College Managers (senior). In the last instance the LSS Manager must
first train the College Managers to deliver/facilitate the programme. Programme could
e.g. be facilitated on each Campus.
2. LSS Manager and/or College Manager to invite the participants (Managers (e.g. HoDs)
and Lecturers) well in advance and to communicate the objective of the workshop.
3. LSS Manager and/or College Manager will make own preparations to ensure they are
familiar with the use and functionalities of the LSS
4. Arrange a proper venue for the workshop with sufficient laptops (people can share if
necessary) and good internet connectivity..
5. Ensure the participants (new LSS subscribers) are properly registered and approved
on the LSS or to complete LSS registration as an initial exercise.
6. Print sufficient number of copies of the worksheets for participants.
The ideal group size is 15-20 participants.
It is assumed that participants all have basic ICT skills e.g. can they are able to browse
the internet, download documents, open folders and to save downloaded documents in
own made folders. If not, then the college must provide the required ICT training.
STRUCTURE AND PROCESS
The Introduction Workshop is divided into 2 modules supported by 7 Exercises which
need to be completed and reflected on by the participants.
PREREQUISITES
College users attending must already have been registered as a LSS Subscriber/User.
MODULE 1
The total time of this module will be 2½ hours in total.
This module is for all new college subscribers and focuses on the My Portal site of the
LSS. This module can be offered on campus level, and groups can be composed by
