Welfare News

Welcome to 2015 for all existing and new parents and students. I hope everyone has

settled back into the school routine.

This year Clyde PS is continuing with our Bounce Back and Circle Time program.

Both teachers and students enjoyed these sessions last year and we aim to continue to

build on students social and emotional skills. These two programs will continue to be formally

taught to students each week and the skills will be regularly revised. I will keep you up to date on

the latest topics each newsletter.

Medical and emergency contacts

Please make sure all your child’s medical conditions and emergency contacts are

up to date with the office. This assists us to ensure your child’s needs and welfare

is met and if your child becomes ill or there is a problem at school.

Asthma

If your child has been diagnosed with asthma the school requires an up to date (not older

than 12 months) action plan to ensure that we meet the needs of your child. Please make

an appointment with your doctor to renew your child’s action plan if it is older than 12

months.

Psychologist at Clyde PS

Clyde PS has been fortunate to receive funding for a psychologist to work one day

a week in our school for the next 2 years. Currently contracts are being signed by

all parties involved but we will let you know when she begins.

National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence

Our school is participating in the National Day of Action against Bullying and

Violence again this year. It is being held on Friday 20th

March. More details to come!

Michael Grose Article

The article this week is about working in partnership with your child’s teacher to help your child

achieve their potential. At Clyde PS we encourage parents to talk to us if you have

any concerns or if you want some assistance with welfare and academic issues.

Welfare Coordinator

Junior School Update

Welcome to 2015. It is great to see all children in the LC settle into school

routines and new students making friends. The LC teachers would like to thank

parents and carers for not coming into the building until after students have been

dismissed at 3:30 – the new students are able to find their parents easily now and

not become overwhelmed by all the “big people” in the LC.

By now your child should be bringing home their blue bag which has a take home

reading book, a reading diary and a home learning book inside. Teachers ask that these items are returned to

school each day so books can be changed daily and tasks checked throughout the week. We encourage

children to read their books and words daily to help improve their skills. It is great if

parents/carers write in the diaries each night and assist children to discuss what they have read

and whether they liked the story.

Every fortnight, you will find a new Maths Share numeracy activity in the home learning

book. These activities are a good way to introduce numeracy tasks to children. Each sheet will

include a challenge task and a due date. Tasks encourage discussion with parents/carers and

children working together to complete the activity. Also, each term children in the LC will be issued with a

project. This term you should have already received a project based on your family tree. Projects will be

displayed around the LC. Children enjoy seeing their work displayed for others to see their work.

Reading diaries will have Mathletics and Reading Eggs codes attached to them. Children will

be able to access these computer programs, using their individual codes, at home as well as at

school. Both programs are great ways to help improve literacy and numeracy skills. Children

will initially be given an assessment task for Reading Eggs, which will then put them at their

level of understanding. For younger students this may take a week or two to organise as they

are still developing their computer skills and we are rostering ICT equipment between the grades.

All notices and newsletters will be sent out via the school Tiqbiz App. If you have not

accessed this app yet, Rob Newell will be available to help you Mondays at 8:00 – 9:00 and

again at 15:30 – 17:00; also Friday 15:00 – 15:30. It is important to sign up for this service

as this is the way the world is communicating today. Please check the app for the school

newsletter which comes out each fortnight.

Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you have any queries. LC teachers have meetings

after school Tuesdays and Wednesdays but will make an appointment to see you as soon as possible. By

working together we can ensure all children will have a happy and successful learning time at Clyde

Primary.

Sharon Barker.

Senior School Update

Welcome to Mr. Graham Mr Graham is teaching year 6 in the LAIR. We welcome him as the newest member of the senior

team.

Reading Adventure Reading Adventure is continuing and students have been given a new novel to read

over the course of 2 weeks and will then discuss the book with their group and

teacher or parent helper. Due to camp next week Reading Adventure will go for 3

weeks and will be held on Monday 2nd

March. Please remind your child to read daily

and to record this in their diary. Students are required to bring their novel back to

school each day. If your child is finding their book difficult please help to read the

novel with them as it is meant to be challenging.

VCOP and Big Write

The senior school is continuing to complete a Big

Write session once a week or fortnight. Students are

given the topic along with a letter to be signed the day before each Big Write. We would appreciate

if you would discuss the topic with them and help your child come up with ideas and vocabulary

words.

of reading (recorded in their diary), spelling and numeracy. Students who do not

hand this in on time will be attending lunchtime homework club.

items as listed on the form. If your child is not attending camp they are still
