CROSS CULTURAL MANAGEMENT/PERSPECTIVES
PROJECT 1 BRIEF

1. PROJECT WEIGHTAGE & ORGANISATION
Assessment weightage: 20%
Group composition: 5 to 6 students per group.
2. OBJECTIVES OF PROJECT
For the students, the main objectives of this project are to:
2.1 consider cross-cultural differences in conceptualising a business product; &
2.2 develop cultural intelligence, consciousness and sensitivities in the midst of
conceptualizing and producing a product.
3. PROJECT TASK DESCRIPTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Your company is a toy and game manufacturer. You are the newly hired executive with the
Research and Department (R&D) Department. In the recent months, the sales for toy and
board game sets have been lulled. In the recent staff retreat, your CEO strongly indicated
that R&D department is expected to create a rush in the entertainment sector globally. The
aim of this game set is to promote cross cultural intelligence within its consumers. This
project is targeted to be launched in 7 continents before Christmas 2012. You will be
presenting to the retailers who will determine if they are going to distribute your companys
board games.
Your team is required to do the following:
A) The Board Game set
o must be cross-cultural based, that is, the topics of the board game could be facts of
the countries, key events ( political, economy, social, technological etc), personalities,
demographics and geographic information;
o to be played by 4-6 players;
o must have a simple game manual in English;
o may incorporate new ideas or borrowed ideas of other board games like Monopoly,
UNO, Scrabble, RISK, Taboo, Jeopardy amongst others; and
o a group must not spend more than S$30.00 to create the board game.

B) The Manual
to submit a maximum of 5 page manual on the following details:
o a description of the board game;
o the aims of the board game;
o the rules of the game;o the learning outcome of the board game;
o the rewards of the board game;
o the penaltiesof the board game; and
o the scores system of the board game.
It excludes pictures, illustrations and must be in single spacing with font size 12.
C) The Oral Presentation
o
Timeslot: maximum 20 mins per groupo Members roles: Board Game Presenters and Players (All to present)
o Tasks: Explanation of the board game idea and demonstration on how to play the
game and emphasize on the unique selling points of the game.
D) Submission of the Manual and the Board Game
o Deadline: 6th December, Thursday 2012 by 1700hrs
o Submission method: 1) To hand over to tutor before 1700hrs at level 7 staff office.
o Late submission will be penalized, 2% out of the 20% deduction per day, regardless
of public holiday or weekend.
E) Assessment Criteria
o Consumers Learning Experience 10%
o Entertainment Value 20%
o Creativity of ideas 30%
o Cross Cultural contents 40%
TOTAL 100%
F) Peer Appraisal
Each student will complete a confidential and compulsory peer appraisal reviewing each
group members contribution to the assignment. This is to discourage free ridership and
ensure members equitable contribution to the group project. The tutor reserves the right
to increase or reduce an individuals grade on the assignment based on the teams
feedback. Members will be appraised on his or her share of the workload and if these
have been discharged conscientiously and on a timely basis.
