Admissionisonly$2andcomplimentarypasseswillbeavailabletheweekoftheshowattheBrownwoodChamberofficeandthrougheachoftheexhibitorsparticipatingintheshow.Throughouttheday,drawingswillbeheldforboothprizesaswellasthemuchanticipatedGrandPrizedrawingattheendoftheshow!ThissuccessfulshowgivesLocalresidentsachancetoseethevarietyofproductsandservicesavailableinBrown-wood. ThefeaturedspeakerwillbeReeceBlincoe,SuperintendentofBrownwoodIndependentSchoolDistrict.BlincoewasborninBurnetandattendedAustinschoolsbeforegraduatingfromPflugervilleHighSchool.HeattendedTarletonStateUniversityandTexasStateUniversity(formerlySouthwestTexasState),graduat-ingfromTexasStateUniversitywithaB.S.degreeinAgricultureEducationin1987andamaster’sdegreeinEducationAdministra-tionin1998. PriortotakinghispositionwithBrownwoodISD,BlincoetaughtAgricultureScienceatSouthsideHighSchoolinSanAntonioandLeanderHighSchoolwheretheyweredesig-nated“BestAgricultureDepart-mentsinTexas”in1997.HeistheformerSuperintendentofSchoolsatStockdaleISDinStockdale,TXapositionheheld

for4years. ReecehasbeenSuperintendentatBrownwoodISDfor4years.Heearnedhisdoctoratefrom

UniversityofTexasatAustininEducationalLeadershipsoonafterhemovedhere. Dr.Blincoeisapassionateadvo-catefortheteachingprofessionandthestudentsheserves.Utilizinghistalentsincreativity,team-buildingandproblem-

solvingtoachieveexcellence,hehasservedontheU.S.Dept.ofEducationCommitteeonLocalProgramSuccess;theCommis-sioner’sCabinet,TASALegisla-tiveCommittee,andmemberofthePublicEducationVisioningInstitute. AcleanupeffortisbeingorganizedatLakeBrownwoodbyseveralorganizationstohelpridthelakebedofgarbageanddebristhathasbeenexposedduetothelowlakelevel. TheBrownCountyWaterImprovementDistrict,BrownCountySheriff’sOffice,BrownwoodAreaChamberofCommerce,EarlyChamberofCommerce,LakeBrownwoodCommunityDevelopmentCouncil,andKeepBrownwoodBeautifulhavejoinedtogetherfortheefforttohelpdisposeoftheman-madedebrisfromLakeBrownwood. ThecleanupisscheduledtotakeplaceonthenexttwoSaturday’s,August13thand20thfrom7am-11amwithlargeroll-offdumpstersavailableforvolunteersandLakeBrownwoodresidentstodisposeoftrashanddebristheyfindinthedrylakebed. Thecleanupeffortwillconsistoftwocomponents,oneinvolvinglakepropertyownersandtheotherusingvolunteers.Ownersofwaterfrontpropertyareaskedtocleanupthedryareaaroundtheirproperty,bagupthetrash,andbringittooneofthedesignatedpointsfromdisposal.Volunteersarealsobeingsoughttohelpinmorevisibleareasofthelake.VolunteersinterestedinhelpingcanjointheeffortbymeetingattheTootieKellyRealEstateofficeparkinglot,7551Hwy279,at6:30ameachoftheclean-updays.Volunteerswillbegivenbagsandinstructionsfromthere.

Aug 20: PublicBoatRampatDam–roll-offdumpster Officialswillcarrythecollectedman-madedebristotheBrownwoodlandfillattheendofeachcleanup.Propertyownersandvolunteersareremindedthatonlyman-madetrashanddebrisfromthelakecanbecollected.Baggedgarbagefromthelakebedcanbeplacedintotheroll-offdumpsters.Metal,tires,andothersimilarobjectsmaynotbethrownintotheroll-offdumpsters,butwillbeacceptedseparately.Norocks,brush,stumps,trees,etc.mayberemovedfromthelakebedandthosehelpingwiththecleanuparenotallowedtodrivevehiclesonthedryareasofthelake.Also,nohouseholdappliancescanbeacceptedduringthiscleanupeffort.

Owner and broker Luann McCluskey has 11 years experience in the real es-tate industry and opened her own brokerage in September of 2009. PF&E/FoodPlazaCelebrateMilestone Plaza convenience stores celebrated 45 years of business in the area on Friday, July 8. To help celebrate the event, Food Plaza gave out delicious food samples and is offering large fountain drinks for 45 cents. The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce marked the event by present-ing a plaque to Steve Fryar of Food Plaza and PF&E Oil Company at their store located at the corner of Hwy 377 South and Avenue B. Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes recognized the event by issuing a procla-mation which recounted the history of the business, and parent company PF&E Oil Company, and the impact they have on the community. Mr.WFireworksCelebratesMembershipwithRibbonCuttingCeremony The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Thurs-day, June 30 to welcome Mr. W Fireworks as their newest member.Manager Kenneth Whitley and owners Wayne and Dianna Wildman have opened Brownwood’s first indoor and air conditioned fireworks store. Located at 2615 Belle Plain, they offer a large assortment of fireworks for the upcoming Independence Day weekend. OnTuesday,October4th,neighborhoodsthroughoutBrownCountyarebeinginvitedtojoinforceswiththou-sandsofcommunitiesnationwideforthe“28thAnnualNationalNightOut”(NNO)crimeanddrugpreven-tionevent.NationalNightOut,whichissponsoredbytheNationalAssociationofTownWatch(NATW)andco-sponsoredlocallybytheBrownwoodPoliceDepart-ment;BrownCountySheriff’sOffice;EarlyPoliceDepartment;BangsPoliceDepartmentandtheBrown-woodFireDepartmentwillinvolveover15,000commu-nitiesfromall50states,USterritories,Canadiancitiesandmilitarybasesaroundtheworld.Lastyear,BrownCountyhad39neighborhoodsparticipateintheevent,andofficialsarelookingtoincreasethatnumberin2011. NationalNightOutisdesignedto:(1)Heightencrimeanddrugpreventionawareness;(2)Generatesupportfor,andparticipationin,localanticrimeefforts;(3)Strength-enneighborhoodspiritandpolice-communitypartner-ships;and(4)Sendamessagetocriminalslettingthemknowneighborhoodsareorganizedandfightingback. From5:30pmto8:30pmonOctober4th,residentsinneighborhoodsthroughoutBrownCountyareaskedtolocktheirdoors,turnonoutsidelightsandspend

theeveningoutsidewithneighborsandpolice.ManyneighborhoodsthroughoutBrownwoodwillbehostingavarietyofspecialeventssuchasblockparties,cookouts,visitsfrompolice,contests,andotheractivities. Leadership Brownwood Leadership Brownwood began in the mid-80’s by the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce as a community leadership development program.

Leadership Brownwood Mission A program of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Brownwood is dedicated to educating, developing, and empowering current and future leaders for the community and motivating them to serve civic, charitable, and business organizations.

Program Details Spanning nine months from September through May, Leadership Brownwood is designed to increase individual and community leadership skills. The beginning retreat, the first Thursday in September, focus-es on individual leadership styles and techniques. Starting in October and ending in May, the class then spends one day a month (typically from 9 AM to 3 PM) examining specific aspects of the community such as education, area government, local business and economic development, health and human services, the criminal justice system, and tourism. The insights participants gain as they explore the inner workings of the community serves as a founda-tion for their long-term involvement in Brownwood in a variety of leadership roles. Dress is business casual but comfortable walking shoes are recommended as most sessions include facility tours. Deadline for application is Friday, August 19, 2011 at 4 PM. Tuition must be received by Sept 1.

The success of the program can be measured by the number of Leadership Brownwood graduates who currently serve the community in volunteer and elected positions. Businesses whose employees participate in Leadership Brownwood gain not only a knowledge of the inner workings of the city, but also personal skills that increase their effectiveness in their professional environment.

Sept 1, 2011 - OPENING RETREAT (Mandatory Attendance) Class members meet for the first time and begin their leadership adventure with an all-day retreat. Partici-pants spend the day discovering their own leadership style and learning how to best utilize style differences. After lunch, members participate in activities involving team-building, problem-solving, trust and risk-taking. Oct 6, 2011 - EDUCATION Classroom visits and presentations by representatives from Brownwood ISD, Howard Payne University, Ranger College and Texas State Technical College cover topics such as curriculum, career and technology, work force development, community partnerships and challenges facing educational institutions.

Nov 3, 2011 – SOCIAL SERVICES A community’s success is directly linked to its ability to meet the needs of its neediest citizens. The class will learn about the many social services available in the community and are encouraged to become person-ally involved through volunteerism. Facility tours will include Family Services Center, Salvation Army, Center for Life Resources and Good Samaritan.

Dec 8, 2011 - LOCAL GOVERNMENT The class gains insight into local government and explores the political process as elected and appointed officials address current issues and future challenges facing the city. Participants will tour city and county facilities. Jan 5, 2012 - HEALTH SERVICES Presentations by local healthcare providers and facility tours offer insight into local services including Rang-er College School of Nursing Training Facility, Wound Care & Hyperbaric Chamber and Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Feb 2, 2012 - ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT This session provides an overview of programs and services provided by the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and the Brownwood Economic Development Board. Tours of local companies and discussion points will examine issues affecting small, medium and large businesses.

March 1, 2012 – CRIMINAL JUSTICE Participants will take part in tours of the TR Havins State Prison, Texas Youth Commission Ron Jackson Unit, Brown County Law Enforcement Center and Jail. Representatives provide an overview of public safety issues and the criminal justice system. March 29, 2012 – BAD WEATHER DAY A session will be cancelled only if Brownwood schools are cancelled. This is our make-up date.

April 5, 2012 - TOURISM The Chamber’s Tourism Manager will lead the participants on tours of museums and sights of interest such as Brown County Museum, Lyric Theatre, Lehnis Railroad Museum and MacArthur Academy of Freedom. The class will learn about local efforts to promote and encourage tourism to our area. April 10, 2012 - Annual Banquet-Leadership Class of 2012 GRADUATION
