M ayflower Animal Sanctuary
Forrest is a gorgeous 8 year old Saluki Cross
He unfortunately arrived into care as he wasn’t getting along with one of the dogs in his previous pack.
We have found Forrest to be a very affectionate, loving dog; he does appreciate his own space though.
He is brilliant on a lead and is a pleasure to walk. He does have a strong ‘prey drive’ however and if let off the lead will chase small animals.
We feel that he would be better in a home where he would be the only dog. Although he is happy to walk alongside another dog he doesn’t like to share with them. We are looking for a loving, calm home for Forrest where we know he would be most happy and would thrive to become a much loved member of the family. If you feel you could offer Forrest the ideal home that he is so desperate for please come up to
the Sanctuary to see him or feel free to give us a call for more details 01302 711330.

Going on holiday? Plans for your pet We all look forward to our holidays, but it can be stressful for you and your pet when your furry friend isn’t holiday with you. Planning in advance and choosing the right option for both of you can help.
In-Home Care Having someone, whether it is a friend, family member or professional pet sitter, stay in your house while you are away is many people’s preferred option as it creates the least amount of disruption to your pet and their routine. If you go down the route of a professional pet sitter, make sure they are fully trained and insured and it is a good idea to ask for references from other customers.
Boarding Kennels or Cattery Good kennels or catterys often book up quickly so it’s a good idea to do your research early on. A reputable boarder will insist that your pet is fully vaccinated (including Kennel Cough for dogs) so don’t forget to take your vaccination recorder them with you when you go.
Boarding at a friend’s or pet sitter’s home Another option is for your dog to stay in someone else’s home. Some pet care
professionals work from home and will have your dog to come and stay with them whilst you are away. As cats are more territorial, this isn’t a recommended option for our feline friends.
Whichever option you choose, early preparation will ensure you can jet off on your hols feeling relaxed and happy knowing that your pet is happy too.
If you would like some more advice on plans for your pet when you are on holiday call Vets4Pets on 01302 556 868.

CORNER FARM LIVERY- HARWORTH
We are a small livery based in Harworth old village. We try to offer livery that is flexible to our clients needs at the end of the day every horse is different and we all unless we are very lucky have to fit our horsie lives around work and family commitments. We may not be perfect but we will try to help you as much as we can to enjoy the time you spend with your horse. We have several fields around the village which are now grassed down for horse livery. Our main livery area is down Common Lane. We have organised this area into acre mini paddocks so that we can try to keep every
owners horse/ horses separate, making poo picking, feeding, handling and catching easier to manage.
So we feel you get the best of both worlds, your own private horse paddock but with horsie neighbours to hack out with and company for any horses in paddocks on their own. From the Common Lane Livery there is off road hacking, Automatic drinkers in the fields, Mains electric fencing and equimesh has been used, Locked storage on yard for tack
Some of our paddocks have stables, some field shelters and others natural shelter. We are continuously investing in the facilities and this year have bought new shelters, stables and fenced extra grazing.
AVAILABLE NOW 2 Stables available on a DIY basis – with individual turnout paddock
A selection of one acre paddocks are available- this could be taken on by separate people with a horse each or by one person with several horses allowing rotation of the paddocks for summer/winter grazing Please contact me for more info or to arrange a time to pop down and have a look 07879 427857

Are mozzies driving you crazy? Find out more…
Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust own and manage the Idle Valley Nature Reserve just off North Road, (A638), Retford. The reserve is open all year, reception facilities are open 10am to 4pm 7 days where staff and volunteers will give you a warm welcome and parking near the centre is open till 8pm during summer. Idle Valley is classified as a ‘wetland’ reserve and is a site of national importance.
However, wetlands + summer = mosquitoes, time to get out the repellent! They are prehistoric, populating planet earth before man over 200 million years ago. The mosquito larvae live in still and stagnant water filtering nutrients into their bodies making excellent energy food for fish and other wildlife. The fact is, they are the bottom of the food chain and we have to live with them, so…
Tip for summer: Mozzies love water, still air and damp conditions, so before your BBQ remove all collections and puddles of water in your garden (even plant pot saucers) and use a small electric fan to keep the air moving and help keep the critters at bay.
Tip for Wetland Fun: ‘Get Wet and Go Wild’ at Idle Valley on Thursday 9th August 11am to 12.30 pm! Take a close look at the beasties below the ponds’ surface, build your own dragon fly and experience your best local wetlands with our wet and wild orienteering trail – just call 01777 713945 to book your place!
Remember we are here to help with your wildlife enquiries and local community conservation projects, just pop in at the Idle Valley Rural Learning Centre between 10am and 4pm. We look forward to meeting you.

Santas in training in Sheffield
Eleven-year-old heart patient, Tom Procter, joined forces with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Sheffield City Council to launch the annual Santa Jog. It may only be July but the BHF has opened the popular pre-Christmas event for registrations, expecting hundreds of Santas to sign up early for the one mile fun run in the city centre. It is hoped this years’ event will be the biggest ever.
Tom, of Doncaster, was born with Di George Syndrome, a genetic disorder that can cause heart defects. Although he had open heart surgery when he was just a year old, there is unfortunately no cure available yet for his condition. Emma Gosling, Tom’s mother said: “I urge everyone to register early for this popular pre-Christmas event and help Tom and us raise funds to help other children with congenital heart disease.”
Volunteer Ericka Heslington is organising the event. She said: “Research breakthroughs will save thousands of lives in the future, and couldn’t be funded without local supporters donating, fundraising or volunteering. The Sheffield Santa Jog is a wonderful local event, it is so much fun and there is a great festive atmosphere. We are even adding a flurry of snow for the start of the event this year. Hundreds of people in Santa suits running through the streets is something not to be missed! “
The event starts at 11am in Tudor Square on Sunday 9 December and follows an easy course through the heart of the city centre. Entry is £10, which includes a free Santa suit, for adults and children aged 14 and over. Children under 14 are free with a fee paying adult and are encouraged to wear fancy dress and join in the fancy dress competition. Everyone participating will be asked to raise sponsorship to help the BHF save lives.
For more information or to enter, contact Ericka Heslington on 07545 140070, email [email protected] or register online at bhf.org.uk/sheffieldsantajog To support Tom and Emma you can visit their justgiving site www.justgiving.com/EmmaGosling

A rt Review and What’s Going On August 2012 Hilary Cartmel
It’s a hard call to say which was the most pleasurable – Neil MacGregor’s short series on Radio 4: ‘Shakespeare’s Restless World’ or Simon Schama’s ‘This England’ and ‘Hollow Crowns’ two parter on BBC2. The telly is awash with programs about
the Bard, and what fantastic stuff it is. What was so good about the MacGregor and Schama arguments was the contextualisation of the work. They are great stories and beautiful language, but to have them placed in history with reference to the politics and society’s habits and fashions was an eye-opener.
There have been some stunning new takes on the plays. The Richard II with Ben Wishaw in the lead left, in my opinion, the older interpretations standing, his mincing rendering of the ineffectual king was so superior to Jacobi’s camp foppish characterisation – the crisply enunciated phrases of Sir Lawrence Olivier, Sir John Geilgood, Vanessa Redgrave are Derek Jacobi are far too plumy for today’s audience to engage with. Perhaps we are too used to modern camera work and lighting. Too used to realism. Even on stage the work today is fresher and following Ethan Hawke’s ruminations on Macbeth the Crucible is staging it this Autumn directed by Daniel Evans. If it’s half as good as their Hamlet 2 years ago, it will be worth an evening out.
All this is part of the World Shakespeare festival / London 2012 Festival. And for the price of a theatre ticket the British Museum have an exhibition, which no doubt Neil MacGregor has had something to do with entitled Shakespeare staging the World The exhibition provides a unique insight into the emerging role of London as a world city, seen through the innovative perspective of Shakespeare’s plays.
Miro at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park has been on exhibition a while now. I thought I’d be clever and go on a quiet day, avoid the weekend crowds, you know, have a peaceful amble round the work. Just me and the bronzes. So I decided on a Monday morning. YSP opens at 10am, so perfectly timed I drove in the gates at five to ten to find 3 coaches and about 30 cars in the car park, and the café’s balcony already bursting with customers. Needless to say I joined them. YSP simply doesn’t have an empty day. Several school parties were visiting as well as people like me, boots on and ready for several hours of walking and looking. The Miro exhibition is the first of its kind in the UK, and for that reason alone worth the trip. The work has come from museums and collections in Spain and Mallorca. Joan Miro was a tour-de-force in the modern art movement and his images are iconic and of that period. His paintings seem to sum up Mediterranean sunshine, football, olive oil and oranges. The show is definitely worth seeing, however there is some strange work in amongst it, and this was brought home, going round the exhibition with a group of young teenage boys, clip board questionaires in their hands. One rushed up, looked at the sculpture with a crescent moon that I was musing over and declared ‘it’s a banana on a stool’ and stomped off…and I had to admit – there it was, albeit bronze and brightly coloured, beautifully observed and interpreted! Also showing is a group of small works by Anthony Caro and the Longside Gallery has work by Anish Kapoor. www.ysp.co.uk
Doddington Hall Sculpture Garden opens 4 August for a month www.doddingtonhall.com and close by ( about 2 miles by road) a sculptor friend of mine – Richard Thornton - has a small gallery open at his studio in Harby www.thertgallery.co.uk showing paintings, drawings and photography as well as sculpture
And then local to home, and during the 2012 Olympic Games at Cusworth Hall, Our Sporting Heroes : A Century of Doncaster Olympians from 1908 to 2008 There have been competitors and medallists ( and not all for team GB) On show are gold, silver and bronze Paralympic medals, two silver Commonwealth medals and a gold European Championship medal, as well as sporting equipment and Olympic memorabilia all won, used and collected by Doncaster's 11 Olympians and Paralympians. Cusworth Hall, opening times 10.00am-4.30pm Monday-Thursday and 10.30am-4.15pm Saturday and Sunday - Standard Cusworth Hall admission charges apply until 16th September 2012

Bawtry Town Council Newsletter
August 2012
www.bawtrytowncouncil.co.uk
.Jubilee Celebrations To commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee council has agreed to erect a plaque in the Pinfold and also to re-black the lettering on the Taylor plaque already in situ. It was felt that this was the most appropriate place, being in the ownership of the town council. Thanks were extended to the Crown Hotel for their initial offer. Licensing It is hoped that businesses will work with the town council in an effort to restrain the applications for liquor licenses in Bawtry which appear to be growing by the week. Residential properties are in close proximity to the centre of Bawtry and can be affected. The Pub Watch Scheme is to be commended, but surely on liquor licensing saturation point must have already been reached. What do you think? Let us know! Highway Issues A discussion with a Highways Engineer and the Neighbourhood Management Team of DMBC Is taking place with regard to possible remedies for the problems on Tickhill Road/Top Street. Top Street will not however be considered for a one way traffic system, but possibilities with regards to road safety on Tickhill Road are being looked into again. Damaged street furniture (i.e. lighting columns, traffic lights, seating etc) should be reported to DMBC for action. Please remember that a direct line to DMBC at Bawtry Community Library is still available for you personally to report any matters that concern you to DMBC, the highway authority, or by telephoning Doncaster Council on 736000. Market Hill A recommendation will be considered by council to extend pay and display parking on the market hill car park to 10pm (2200 hours) (This was the original contract signed up to some years ago). Reflective signage and new pay and display meters will be provided. This may become effective from the 1st November, 2012. Current charges will remain the same. Consideration will also be given to ‘tick-over tariff’ of a night time in the future. Gainsborough Road Toilets Expressions of interest are invited for a cleaner for the above facilities to commence in September, 2012. Interested persons should contact the Clerk to the Council or the Chairman (details at the end of the newsletter). Airport & Tunnel Tech Complaints Can we remind all residents that complaints should be referred to the telephone numbers/email addresses at the end of this newsletter, so that the complaints can be logged by the appropriate authority.
