Thursday 6th
September Term 3 Week 8
Dear Parents
I was extremely privileged to attend the Instrumental Festival of Music last Thursday night at the Opera
House to watch our Recorder and Violin groups perform – they were simply MAGNIFICENT.
Congratulations to all our children on the manner in which they represented our school. They were a credit to
Bathurst Public School and their families. A special thank you to the hard work of Mrs Marg Cafe, Mr
Nicholas Newell and Ms Stephanie Baker who have prepared the children for the concert. Mrs Cafe has
spent countless hours since the start of the year organising the trip and I thank her for her wonderful work.
Thank you to Mrs Chaffey who also supervised last Thursday during the excursion.
Thank you to all our many volunteer parents who assisted with the Father’s Day wrapping and selling last
week. It was a huge effort to have the Father’s Day BBQ and Father’s Day stall on Friday but it was a
wonderful occasion for our children and our school. Thank you to the many Dads that could make the BBQ
breakfast. I am sure all Dads cherished the gift they received on Sunday.
We are extremely proud of the efforts of our children who represented Bathurst Public School in Dubbo last
Friday. Lots of personal best times and jumps occurred. Well done everyone! We were very excited to learn
that 6 children have qualified to attend the NSW PSSA Championships at Homebush. A super effort by these
children and we wish them well at the State Championships. They were:
Aidan McBurney – Senior Boys 800m
Scott Brown – Junior Boys Long Jump
Alex Ridley – 11 years girls 100m, 11 years 200m, 11 years Long Jump and
Senior Girls Relay
Emileah Cossu – Senior Girls Relay

We have also excelled on the Soccer field with our Boys
Soccer Team winning the Eastern Division Gala Day last
Thursday. Our boys had a super day at the gala day held
at Proctor Park and their success now takes them to the
Regional Finals against Dubbo South PS next Tuesday at
Proctor Park. We wish them all the best!
Boys Soccer Team
Good luck to our Girls soccer team who will play in the
Eastern Division Gala Day this Friday at Proctor Park. We
know they will be wonderful representatives of Bathurst
Pubic school and will do their very best. Good luck girls!
Girls Soccer Team
Over the next two and a half weeks we have 20 groups representing our school at the Bathurst Eisteddfod. I
would like to take this opportunity to thank the children and teachers for the enormous effort that has already
been made in preparing for the Eisteddfod. Good luck to all our Bathurst Public School groups.
A reminder to any child in Years 2-6 that would like to attend the Matinee session of the School Spectacular
performance on Friday 23rd
November that notes and money are now due. The excursion costs $48.00 which
includes a ticket to the performance and bus transport. Please contact the office at school if you require an
additional note.

A reminder about the Bathurst Public School Uniform
At Bathurst Public School we take pride in our appearance and we regularly receive compliments about how
wonderful our children look. Some reminders about our school uniform:

Children should only wear sports uniform on their sports day – Kindergarten (Monday), Stage 1
(Wednesday) and Stage 2 and 3 (Friday).
NSW and Western Representative sports apparel should only be worn on Sports days – Friday
Tights and short shorts are not appropriate school wear and are not school uniform – if using these for
dancing or sports training, please bring them and get changed at lunch time.
Year 6 children may wear their Year 6 jumper everyday (not at Eisteddfod performances!)
Our uniform is:
Boys – Navy trousers, white polo shirt, navy school sloppy-joe, white ankle socks and clean back shoes. Girls – Winter pinafore, white polo shirt, navy school sloppy-joe, navy tights/stockings, clean black shoes and
navy blue hair ribbons.
Parents, Grandparents, Carers
As a parent you have an important role in your child’s education. As a teacher I only see your child for a part of their learning time; I need your support in helping your child succeed.
To Help Your Child Succeed! Try to keep absences to a minimum
Good attendance is essential to success! Ask about Homework
Homework is often given to support work learned during the day. Ask about Assessment Tasks and projects
This is the way students show what they have learned. Encourage your child to see their teacher for extra help as needed.
Let your child know you expect them to do their BEST!

Boys’ Soccer Thursday 30th
August
The BPS team played three marvellous games to advance to the Western Region semi-finals to be played
against Dubbo South PS. That game will be played sometime before 14th
September when it can be
negotiated with DSPS.
In our first game we defeated Bathurst Small Schools. The match was played between two teams who clearly
hadn’t had a lot of match practice. Our intention was to play this match as if it was the only one we would
play on the day. We wanted to start quickly, and scored within 90 seconds of the opening whistle. Small
Schools never recovered from the shock and we went on to quickly score two more goals. The game was
won by the twenty minute mark, but the boys resolved to maintain the pressure. We ran out clear winners 8 –
0 at full time.
Lithgow Public School were the defending regional champions. Our “training run” had alerted us to what we
needed to improve. We knew what we could do well and once again started at full speed. Bathurst 1 – 0 after
2 minutes. At this point a classy Lithgow team asserted itself and the game was in the balance at 1 – 1 at half
time. After the break Lithgow pushed hard, but our defence held and repeated Lithgow assaults were repelled
by very solid defence. With 15 minute minutes to go we shifted gear and scored two goals. Lithgow had no
answer and left the field looking bewildered. Bathurst PS 3-1, victorious!
We drew Orange PS in the final round. We don’t often see Orange teams so we had no idea what their
strengths were. Back to the simple game plan, kick long, play in their half and physically contest at every
opportunity. We scored in the opening 5 minutes. Orange went off balance and couldn’t recover. We played
over them for the next 20 minutes to lead 4-0 at half time. The second half ebbed and flowed, both sides
tiring badly and neither able to gain an advantage. Two goals in quick succession saw us close out the match
five minutes from the end.
Every player was a standout on the day. As a coach I couldn’t have wished for more determination, physicality, teamwork and esprit among the team. Well done our fellows. As
always boys, a pleasure and good luck against Dubbo South. David Given

P and C News
Thanks to all those Dads and other 'significant adults' who shared the Father’s Day BBQ with us at the
school on Friday morning.
There was a long queue of patient people enjoying the sun and waiting for one of the 170 bacon and egg
rolls flipped by the energetic, if culinary challenged, blokes behind the BBQ and serving table.
The coffee was finally hot and tasty by about 9.15am
The objective was not so much to raise money as it was to have some fun together, and the faces of the
kids who arrived with someone special for the morning made the exercise fully worthwhile. I think we
made some cash as well, (thanks to some generous donations from local businesses) which can go straight
back into resources for the school.
You're welcome to join us at the next P&C meeting if you would like to continue a closer engagement
with the school community and find out more of what's going on!
Plates and notes have been sent home to each family to collect donations of cakes and biscuits for our
Election Morning Tea. Donations are due back at the school tomorrow ready for our stall on Saturday.
Thank you to all of our families for your support, and I look forward to updating you next week with
the total amount you helped the P and C raise.
Father’s Day Success
More than $1500 has been raised from the well-attended Father’s Day activities. Thank you so very
much to the helpers at both the Father’s Day stall and BBQ breakfast.
We hope you enjoyed the gifts that the children took the time to select and that you have room in the
cupboard for that special mug, pair of socks or spent Sunday washing the car or toiling in the garden!
A special thanks to some local businesses who gave generously to our Father’s Day stall - Mitre 10,
Bathurst Toyota, Coles, Bunnings and Bathurst Motors whose support is much appreciated.
We look forward to building on the success next year.
Election Day Cake Stall
Also just a reminder, we are asking for a donation of home baked or store
bought cakes and biscuits to help with our Election Day morning Tea.
We are hoping this fundraising initiative will raise funds for much needed
resources for the School.
This is a fantastic opportunity to reach out to the wider Bathurst community to
raise funds.
Thank you in advance for your support.
