Infants Bike Day A BIG thankyou to all the parents and carers who brought their child’s bike/scooter to school for this event. It was a great way to use the bike safety rules that we have been learning about in class this term. Here’s to a safe and active summer holiday!

Keeping your kids safe online this holiday season Between the last minute shopping rush and the impending arrival of family and friends, you’ve got enough on your plate this holiday season without worrying about what your kids are up to online. You can’t keep your eye on them 24/7, but there are some steps you can take to ensure your kids safe online when you’re not around. Telstra brings you some tips when putting that tablet under the tree:

Talk with your kids about their digital lives. Create conversations and stay involved .Ask your children how they use technology and try it for yourself – try playing a game or uploading a video together. Explain the rules of responsible device ownership. Protect personal information –

teach your children how to turn on privacy settings. Encourage children to ‘think before they click’,

to think about content and the consequences. of posting it Be an offline supporter. Encourage kids

to have some screen-free time each day and turn off devices at bedtime. Teach kids to treat others

the same way they’d like to be treated online and be zero- tolerant to rude or mean online

behaviour. Make the most of parental controls on devices. Let your children know you’re always

there for them – assure them that their internet privileges won't be taken away if they are exposed

to content that makes them feel uncomfortable or concerned Don’t just talk about the right thing to do; be a role model with your own digital habits

Above all, have a fun and safe holiday season!

Get your own cyber safety kit: With Christmas stockings tipped to be brimming with technology this year, Telstra is reminding people to include cyber safety tips as stocking stuffers to ensure technology gifts are being used safely and sensibly – by young and old. The Cyber Safety kits, available free from Telstra’s website, aim to teach children and parents, teens and grand-parents (both the cyber savvy and new learners) how to avoid common pitfalls online, including identity fraud, shopping scams and cyberbullying. Visit Telstra's cyber safety page to download the kits: www.telstra.com.au/cyber-safety

P&C News

Choosing school shoes Are expensive school shoes the best option for happy feet? Let's face it. School shoes have never been at the cutting edge of fashion. In fact if you look at what your parents were wearing, the humble school shoe really hasn't evolved much at all. Tips for choosing shoes: http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/wellbeing/health/choosing-the-right-school-shoes Teach your kids to be waterproof As temperatures rise, the risk of drowning increases too. Review these water-safety tips to help keep your family safe this summer. Find out more: http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/wellbeing/health/water-safety-tips

CLOTHING POOL Open Monday – Friday 9.00am to 9.30am. ( For out-of-hours service please contact the School) Date to Remember - 28th January 2014 9am to 12pm Lost property is not our responsibility. Please label ALL clothing and items clearly so they can be returned to your child. Non school clothing will be kept for two weeks - if not picked up it will be donated to charity. If your child accidentally brings home clothing belonging to someone else please return it to the school or the classroom. The clothing pool will no longer be lending uniforms for school events If you have items you would like the Clothing Pool to sell for you please leave them at the Office or Clothing Pool with your name and phone number attached

Over due Books It’s that time of the year again when I have to count every book in the iCentre for stocktake. As I can’t count them if they are under beds, behind cupboards or in toy boxes at home, I’m asking all students to have their books back in the iCentre as soon as possible. To make this easier for you, notes were sent home last week to remind everyone which books to look for. If you have any questions please drop in and see me before school or send me a note with your child. As stocktake is a “sometimes” event, (thank good-ness!), students who return all their books will be rewarded with a “sometimes” treat – a freddo frog – to say thankyou. Kerry Little

I hope you had the chance to look at the art works last week – as always, I am impressed by our children and what they can do. Thanks to the teachers for making this happen – I loved seeing what you and the children created. For those interested in how successful we were in our fundraising, the wrap up is as follows; the biggest contribution to the P&C was our wonderful canteen (approximately $5,000). The next were the walkathon and canvases for our art show (approximately $1,000 each) followed by our mothers and father’s day stalls(approximately $800 each). These funds bought smartboard bundles as well as books and paid for buses for our kids to go on excursions. In addition, the P&C have bought hats for all the incoming kindergarten children for 2014. So, I just want to take the chance to thank everyone for their contribution this year.

Band Tryouts This Thursday Year2 and other interested

students can try out different musical instruments with a view to join our School Band. If you do not wish for your child to

tryout send in a note to the classroom teacher. Band teacher Hollie Coleman can be contacted

via email on [email protected]
