Year 1 Excursion to Tropical Fruit World

On Friday, all Year 1 students set off on their exciting adventure to Tropical Fruit World as part of our integrated unit of work, ‘What’s for Dinner?’ The students were treated to a wonderful range of experiences including a plantation safari to learn about the wide variety of fruits grown on the farm, a visit to Treasure Island where students enjoyed a miniature train ride, a wildlife boat cruise to the fauna park to feed animals and an exotic fruit tasting experience. The children thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and conducted themselves beautifully. Thank you to our parents who came along to assist.

“My favourite part of the excursion was tasting the fruit. I liked the tree grapes.”

Harrison

“I loved feeding the animals. We fed the kangaroo and the sheep, and on the way back we saw a giant goldfish. I’m going to help every animal when I grow up.”

James

“I enjoyed going to the farm because we went on a boat to a farm to feed the animals. I got to pat a kangaroo and he was so soft.”

Nicolas

“I liked going on the miniature train because you could see lots of birds.”

Calling all IPodsWhat do you do with those pesky old iPod Shuffles or Nanos that you have updated and now no longer need? Well you could donate them to the Sunshine Avenue library.

If you have an old iPod Shuffle, Nano or equivalent that you no longer need, we would like to put audio books onto them and have them available for the students to borrow. Any donations would be gratefully appreciated.

NCIS Basketball ChampionshipsNine Lindisfarne boys from Years 5 and 6 did a terrific job representing the School at the recent NCIS Basketball Championships in Coffs Harbour. The boys participated in three training sessions prior to the tournament, giving them an opportunity to brush up on their basketball skills. At the tournament the boys played five games against other schools. The Lindisfarne team gave them all great competition and their victory over Cape Byron Steiner School was certainly a highlight of the day. All the boys are to be commended on their excellent effort, sportsmanship and team spirit. It was a fun experience for all and a great way to learn more about the basketball. Congratulations to Nicholas Dowd, Daniel Green, Billy Paterson, Oscar Veldhoven, Patrick Sheard, Connor Wilson, Bailey Gadd, Harrison Kirkwood and Rhys Thomas. Thanks to Mrs Simone Gadd for washing the singlets.

Pretty in Pink! What a fantastic effort from all of the Sunshine Avenue community for raising $773.05 at last Friday’s PINK Day in aid of Breast Cancer Research.

I was proud to present certificates to members of each class and a cake, certificates and trophies to 2N and 4K for raising the most mufti money. Medals were awarded to Sienna Eddie, Kate Sands and Ryan Parry for being the best dressed on the day – but there were many of you who were also worthy of an award!

Mrs Keevers took a lot of photos, which have been uploaded to give you the opportunity to select and purchase them. They will cost $1 and all proceeds will go towards the grand total collected by Lindisfarne – nearly $2800! The link is http://www.lindisfarne.nsw.edu.au/2015-pink-day

Thank you for contributing to such a successful event and I hope you enjoyed the day. You are awesome!

Jessica Maynard , Year 12 - Pink Day Coordinator

Early Learning CentreKindergarten TransitionThis week, the Preschool students commencing Kindergarten next year had the opportunity to spend some time in the Kindergarten classrooms. The students were very excited to meet their Kindergarten buddies, who showed them around the classrooms and played games with them. The Kindergarten Turtle students made a story book for the Preschoolers all about Kindergarten and what to expect when they start. They illustrated the book beautifully and it is now part of the Preschool library.

The next Kindergarten Transition session will be on Tuesday 17 November.

Joeys Practise HairdressingThe Preschool Joey students decided to turn the home corner into a hairdressing salon and have enjoyed engaging in role-play, pretending to be hairdressers. They gave the head mannequins some great new hairstyles, invited their friends and Mrs Margo into their salon and explored and invented some lovely new hairstyles. All the Joey students have become involved in play at the hairdressing salon. This experience helps develop each child’s fine motor skills, language and social skill development.
