Reflection of the Gospel:

Last Sunday’s Gospel began with the Jews ar-

gued among themselves because they did not

understand how Jesus could give his flesh for

people to eat. This Sunday’s Gospel opens

with the disciples murmuring about how hard

Jesus’ saying about eating his flesh and drink-

ing his Blood to have life within them is. Some

disciples would return to their previous life and

others would remain followers of Jesus. Jesus’

question to the Twelve about whether they also

want to leave parallels Joshua’s question to the

tribes of Israel. Simon Peter’s corresponds to

Joshua’s in that it is an affirmation of faith. He

believes that Jesus has words of eternal life.

Faith is a gift and a personal response to God's

revelation of himself

How does God help us grow in faith and trust in his word, even

the hard sayings which are difficult to understand? Faith is a

gift which God freely gives to those who listen to his word and

who put their trust in him.

Reflexión del Evangelio:

La confesión de Pedro reconoce que la

revelación de Jesús vitaliza, anima y da vida

verdadera a quienes la abrazan. En la misma

profesión, Pedro proclama a Jesús como “el

Santo de Dios”, es decir, como alguien avalado

por el Dios vivo, cuya carne y sangre santifican

y aportan la comunión con Dios. La profesión

del grupo de los Doce es la fe de la Iglesia que

ha pasado de generación en generación. Hoy

como ayer, el Espíritu de Dios nos llama a vivir

de la fe en el Hijo del Hombre enaltecido, en

esa humanidad crucificada donde Dios se

descubre a los miembros del pueblo de Dios.

La fe es un regalo y una respuesta personal a la

revelación de Dios de sí mismo ¿Cómo nos ayuda Dios a crecer en fe y confianza en su

palabra, incluso en los dichos difíciles que son difíciles de en-

tender? La fe es un regalo que Dios da gratuitamente a aque-

llos que escuchan su palabra y que ponen su confianza en él.

The Bread of Life discourse ended with people finding it hard to accept the words of Jesus as the Bread that came down from heaven. Even the close friends of Jesus were challenged. But they stayed inspite of the seeming controversies that they heard. They believed in our Lord. Peter would acknowledge that Jesus has

the words that can give eternal life. We can be challenged in our times today. Though in a different way because of the controversies that is adversely affecting the church today. People may find it difficult to stay in the church that is beset with the scandals that are shaking it. Pope Fran-cis in his letter to the People of God all over the world is asking for forgiveness and emphasizing “never again”. He asks everyone to pray for healing. Archbishop Jose Gomez also sent out his statement to the people in the archdiocese as he expresses his sentiment that “it is a sad and confusing time for all of us, with the recent revelations about sin and abuse in the Church in this country”. He assures the people of his prayers as he says that “I am praying for you and your families and for our young people; and for our bishops, priests, deacons, seminarians and religious. I am praying most intensely for the victim-survivors of these crimes, and am trying to offer what small penance I can for everyone who has suffered abuse by pastors of the Church. The Bread of Life discourse leads us to Jesus, the bread that came down from heaven. We partake of him in the Eucharist. We receive his body and blood. And we are the Body of Christ. If a member of the body is suffering, every part of the body suffers. Thus we are all suffering as the pope highlights in his letter. Let us pray as one church. We are all hurting. We pray for healing. Jesus is our healer. He is the Bread of Life that came down from heaven. In the Eucharist, we can find healing.

DID YOU KNOW? Safety tips for kids playing sports this school year Sports seasons start early, even for young children, and while it’s

great that they’re out getting exercise and learning new skills, safe-

ty is still a top priority. It’s recommended that all children who are

playing school sports have an annual physical, and relevant health

information (allergies, conditions, etc.) should be shared with

coaches. Parents should make sure their children have the right

gear, and that it fits and works wells. Children should stay well-

hydrated, well-fed, and well-rested to keep up their energy and

strength. Student athletes should be learning to be kind and fair,

Ministerio de las Familias Les hace la cordial Invitación a asistir con sus

El discurso sobre el Pan de la Vida terminó con

personas que encontraban difícil aceptar las pa-

labras de Jesús como el Pan que descendió del

cielo. Incluso los amigos cercanos de Jesús fueron

desafiados. Pero se quedaron a pesar de las apa-

rentes controversias que escucharon. Creyeron en

nuestro Señor Pedro reconocería que Jesús tiene

las palabras que pueden dar la vida eterna. Podemos ser desafiados

en nuestros tiempos hoy. Aunque de una manera diferente debido

a las controversias que afectan adversamente a la iglesia de hoy. A

las personas les puede resultar difícil permanecer en la iglesia que

está plagada de escándalos que la están sacudiendo. El Papa

Francisco en su carta al Pueblo de Dios en todo el mundo pide

perdón y enfatiza "nunca más". Él les pide a todos que oren por

sanidad. El arzobispo José Gómez también envió su declaración a

la gente de la arquidiócesis cuando expresó su sentimiento de que

"es un momento triste y confuso para todos nosotros, con las re-

cientes revelaciones sobre el pecado y el abuso en la Iglesia en

este país". Asegura a la gente de sus oraciones cuando dice que

"estoy orando por ti, por tus familias y por nuestros jóvenes; y

para nuestros obispos, sacerdotes, diáconos, seminaristas y

religiosos. Rezo con la mayor intensidad por las víctimas sobrevi-

vientes de estos crímenes, y estoy tratando de ofrecer la menor

penitencia posible para todos los que han sufrido abusos por parte

de los pastores de la Iglesia. El discurso del Pan de Vida nos lleva

a Jesús, el pan que descendió del cielo. Participamos de él en la

Eucaristía. Recibimos su cuerpo y sangre. Y nosotros somos el

Cuerpo de Cristo Si un miembro del cuerpo está sufriendo, sufre

cada parte del cuerpo. Por lo tanto, todos estamos sufriendo como

el Papa destaca en su carta. Vamos a orar como una sola iglesia.

Todos estamos dolidos. Oramos por la curación. Jesús es nuestro

sanador Él es el pan de vida que descendió del cielo. En la

Eucaristía, podemos encontrar la curación.
