What have you learned from your audience feedback?

EVALUATION

Page 2: Audience feedback of my music video

Evaluation from pitch• From my feedback I have realised that I need to be careful not to

make my music video a film and therefore need to make sure I fragment the shots, and add random shots to it. This will keep my audience more interested as it may make them slightly confused, and will hopefully make them want to carry on watching to see what happens next. Also on my storyboard I have planned to use the same shot quite a few times which would be seen as if I have just run out of footage which is not the case at all and therefore I will need to add a few more shots on my shooting schedule in order to make sure I have enough footage.

• I feel that from my feedback from my pitch I was able to make my video more fragmentary and not like a film. I never used the same shot twice and made sure that if a shot looked similar I flipped it to surprise the audience. I still didn’t end up with enough footage which was a problem on my behalf but this ended up being a good thing as it meant I was able to add some more abstract scenes into the video which the audience were particularly fond of.

1. WHAT WAS SOMETHING THAT YOU REDEEMED

STRIKING IN MY MUSIC VIDEO?

Page 4: Audience feedback of my music video

Analysis from question 1.

• From looking at my results I can see that the unique idea of Hannah dancing was very popular.

• I can also see that the headlights on the beach was a big hit which I am very pleased about as this was the hardest part of my video to film.

• I am glad that someone commented on the revered section as looking like Coldplay’s as that is where I took my inspiration from. This also took a lot of time and effort to achieve especially in terms of editing.

2.

Which target audience would this video be most suited too?

14-21

22-31

32-41

42+

Page 6: Audience feedback of my music video

Analysis from question 2.

• I can see from my pie chart that 50% of people believed the target audience to be 14-21 which is the target audience group I aimed for. This proves that I have produced the video for the interest of people in this age group. For example, the actors and the artist being in this age group themselves.

3. DID THE VIDEO MATCH THE ACOUSTIC/FOLK GENRE OF MUSIC? (E.G.

LOCATION, CLOTHING, PROPS, ETC.)

Page 8: Audience feedback of my music video

Analysis from question 3.

• It is clear to me that the majority of my audience felt that the beach was a suitable mise-en-scene for my genre of music. I liked the comment about the contradiction between the joyful place and the place for the young man’s misery.

• I am very glad that someone noticed the simplicity of the music video to match the acoustic genre.

4. WAS THE USE OF CAMERA ANGLES AND

EDITING SUCCESSFUL? WHY? WHY NOT?

Page 10: Audience feedback of my music video

Analysis from question 4.

• I was a little disappointed that someone thought that parts of the editing was amateur but in doing this I wanted the effect to make the audience feel as if they were flicking through a book by the swiping of the transitions.

• Overall though I was pleased with the comments saying that the video looked professional and the editing matched the music.

5. WAS THERE A CLEAR COLOUR THAT STOOD OUT FOR YOU? IF SO WHAT WAS THE

COLOUR?

Page 12: Audience feedback of my music video

Analysis from question 5

• I am very happy that people picked up on the red being the house colour. I am glad that I chose it and I am also glad that it was picked up on that it indicated danger.

6. THE CONCEPT TO MY MUSIC VIDEO WAS THAT THE DANCER WAS THE VOICE INSIDE THE ARTIST’S HEAD AS HE SUFFERED

FROM SCHIZOPHRENIA, DOES THIS CONCEPT WORK? IF SO

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Page 14: Audience feedback of my music video

Analysis from question 6.

• To me, this was the most important part to my video as the subject matter means so much to me. So therefore by looking at my feedback I can see that the majority of my audience got this concept. I am very pleased with that fact that someone noticed the fact that the dancer changed from black to white (bad to good) as I don’t think I portrayed this quite enough.

• If I were to do the video again I may have recorded the artists voice explaining what had happened in his life to make it more personal and more obvious what was happening.

7. DID THE VIDEO SUSTAIN YOUR INTEREST

THROUGHOUT? IF SO HOW?

Page 16: Audience feedback of my music video

Analysis from question 7.

• From this feedback I have realised that maybe there were too many beach scenes and that it may have got a bit repetitive and boring at parts. If I were to do this again I may have filmed more inside or maybe more in the sea but due to the cold weather this would have been very difficult.

• Although other people commented on the use of different locations and varied camera angles so it seems to be just personal opinions.

8. WAS THE LIP SYNCING SUCCESSFUL? IF

NOT SAY WHY.

Page 18: Audience feedback of my music video

Analysis from question 8.

• I am very happy to say that everyone thought that the lip syncing was successful but looking back I wish I had included more of it. I feel that it was very limited but I did this on the basis that the storyline was so distraught that it took away from the emotion of the story.

Page 19: Audience feedback of my music video

9. WERE THE PROPS EFFECTIVE IN THE WAY THEY

MATCHED THE LYRICS? WHY? WHY NOT?

Page 20: Audience feedback of my music video

Analysis of question 9.

• From my audience feedback it is clear that the red ribbon was a hit so to then carry it on across the ancillary task was definitely a good idea.

• Maybe some of my props were a little to literal but then I did it to match Goodwin’s theory - lyrics to visuals.

• I personally don’t think that people understood the idea of the sweets being the pills and therefore they may have found them a bit random.

Page 21: Audience feedback of my music video

10. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD

CHANGE ABOUT THE VIDEO?

Page 22: Audience feedback of my music video

Analysis from question 10.

• If I were to re-do this task I would definitely have included more lip syncing as there was not enough.

• I also would have re-shot the last scene where Hannah spins as it is a bit too grainy where the lighting was to dark and the camera didn’t pick it up.

• Also I would shoot more scenes in different locations to keep the audience’s attention more.

This post was posted on a social network site, Facebook. This comment was the most appreciated to me because to make a 40 year old man cry must make me talented!

By posting my video on facebook I was able to receive comments about it which relates to web 2.0.

Things I am proud of• Overall I am very happy with my video and feel that I produced it to

my best potential. • I am very proud of the backwards scenes as it made the video

slightly abstract and eerie. • I also like my headlight scenes as it took a lot of hard work and

planning to get right and I feel that it worked very well. • I cannot thank my dancer enough as I am so pleased with her

quality of dancing which the audience was so fond off. • I am very happy with the quality of lip syncing due to my artist as he

did very well to learn the song so quickly. • I am glad that I was quick to come up with problem solvers such as

the fact that we didn’t have an old family picture of Jonny and therefore had to ask strangers on the beach is we could take their photograph with Jonny which was a big risk as I was worried that it would look slightly amateur.
