Patience is a Virtue — dTrump has got to go

The redacted Mueller Report clearly exposes multiple illegal actions of dTrump; crimesagainst the rule of law, the U.S. Constitution, the American people, our earth andenvironment and crimes against humanity. His history reveals gross lying, cheating, stealing, tax evasion, misogyny, arrogance, and so much more all in the commission of, lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride (known as the Seven Mortal Sins.).

Personally I have some thoughts, visions if you will, of his demise. Drawn and quartered. Pity has escaped me. Reason, however, has not. The gold standard is our U.S.Constitution; the rule of law.

For sure, the president must be impeached. He and his minions must go. AttorneyMueller and his team have presented facts with collaborating evidence which are apparentin spite of the redactions. This is a report, not a trial. The law has been followed.

It is now time for the Congress to investigate, to the full extent, the misdoing, the unlawfulbehavior to reveal the whole truth leaving no stone unturned.

Several times recently, persons have spewed their blunderbuss thoughts to me. Oneperson, after helping me with a scooter, stated he would not have helped me if he had seenmy Democratic bumper stickers on my car. I asked him if it were acceptable that littlechildren were locked up in cages. His response was the illegals should be locked up andsent back to their homes. “But they are here having legally applied for asylum. We are allimmigrants in this country!” Response? Send them back where they came from!

Several times I have heard from others the acceptance of the evilness because the economyis so good. It’s jobs! What is befuddling is there is never a mention about the growingnational debt. Let alone the windfall for the wealthy 1 percent.

Complaints have been screamed that folks are not getting their tax refund. Pundits counterthat taxpayers are at fault because of errors in the amount of withholding amount theyhave declared. Okay, the over estimate of withholding amounts resulted in reduced refundamounts. However, what this means at the kitchen table, is that the government, is gettingmore money sooner, rather than waiting for taxpayers to file in April.

Good ‘ole-boy Sen. McConnell (and others) have declared Social Security, Medicare andMedicaid, and other misnamed “entitlements” must be reduced, eliminated because theU.S. cannot afford them. Once again, speaking for Chuck and I, if our Social Security andMedicare are cut or eliminated, there will be no payment of taxes, let alone purchasing thebasic necessities to sustain life. In the words of my deceased mother, “You can’t get bloodfrom a turnip!”

Yes, yes, yes. I am in favor of impeaching dTrump. The results of due process areessential. I am counting on the Congress to investigate, process and convict him. I amcounting on the Courts to bring all the evidence of wrong doing by dTrump and hisGOP’per flunkies to justice.

Our very lives are counting on the preponderance of the evidence . Truth, justice, and theAmerican way is our victory.

COMMENTS:RM: I completely trust Pelosi’s judgement on the matter.CMD: I trust Speaker Pelosi. She knows what she’sdoing. MQM: This long post just to say....we do not have 67senate votes to convict. No impeachment. DDB Every one knows .. “does not. ..exonerate”KA: It’s not about the Senate. It’s about the threat andincreasing pressure on him. Hearings and subpoenaswill keep him unhinged and unfocused. Fighting battleson all fronts. That’s how they can force him to resign. They’ll offer to not prosecute him or his kids. As the tideturns and his re-election looks less likely, he’ll have tonegotiate out because he cannot risk leaving officewithout a deal.Love: This a psychological approach. If Trump had anormal psyche, I would go along with your plan. Trump is not a normal person. He is a person with aprofoundly damaged psyche, who does not react tosituations as a normal person would.PB: Impeachment at this time is not practical. Not justbecause there is no chance of conviction in the Senate. But, more importantly, the general public is not yetpersuaded that impeachment is proper. The Democratswill need the same voters in 2020 that won the House. Impeach now, and how many of those voters are turnedoff from Democratic candidates? Conduct oversighthearings about the underlying issues in the Muellerreport.). My opinion.

Love: PB, I agree. If we cannot persuade a majority ofvoters that Trump needs to be given the gate, impeachment should be off the table and we need toget off our duff regarding the entire 2020 election. What I do not want is for us to be afraid of each other;that is Bernie’s game to sic Dems on Dems and whyHillary is not in the WH! We have had enoughinner-party squabbles. Love: PB, P.S, We just have to be clear that who issaying what about impeachment is not Berniebots orthe Russians. Bernie wants Dems to look like wimps –that is part of his war on the party – and the Ruskieswant to protect their man in the White House. Neitherare friends of the country! PB: Steve, I’m in total accord with you! TheDemocrats need to focus on the 2020 election, andavoid any internecine conflict in the process.Love: PB, That might be hard since Bernie and hisbuddies don’t know how to play nice or stay in theirlane...whichever makes sense to you! It would help ifthe DNC was not invested in what might becharacterized as a “missionary work on Bernie” sincehe is less inclined to be included in the crew thanscuttle the ship.PH: Thank you.CJM: Couldn’t have said it better![ED: Comments edited for clarity and brevity.]

Let’s be clear here, Speaker Pelosi has not said that we will not impeach Trump. All she has said it is not theright time. What is she driving at? The trial will be in the Senate, so what the House believes is true isirrelevant; what matters is what the Senate thinks.

And what might that be? In such a trial, it comes down to two possible defenses of the president: 1) the facts are not clear. 2) the facts are clear but we do not care!

Cut to the chase. Pelosi wants to use the post-Mueller time to make the case to the American people what thefacts are, so that either in the impeachment trial or the 2020 election, polls show that the majority of votershave the goods on Trump....know what the facts are, rendering the trial, or 2020 presidential election, simply arecital of what the people already know is true, leaving the Repubs in the Senate with the second option as theironly option.

Pelosi is framing the impeachment option as part of a plan to box Republican senators into a situation in whichthey have to choose between respecting the conclusions of the voters (about Trump’s unfitness for office) andtheir loyalty to him as the head of their party!

What I think is in Pelosi's mind is that winning the senate is more important, in the long run, than kickingTrump out of the White House....though, if the house gets in high gear and dominates the public conversationin the near future, both might be in the cards! [The House might make the Senate an offer they cannot refuse.]

Remember, history will not record the Senate’s loyalty to Trump; only that the House did not challenge themto hold him accountable for his immoral, vulgar and criminal behavior!

We have a lot at risk in failing to impeach, regardless of how the Senate might vote!!! So I doubt Pelosi wantsthat as part of her legacy, but might be willing to risk that to have a Republican Senate's scalp hanging on herwall!

But why not impeach and convict and win the Senate. Dare we hope for such???

Be still my quaking heart!

Enough of This Nonsense! Vote “NO” on the City Of Garland and DCCCD Bonds.

— Charles E. Ford, Jr.

On May 4, 2019, we are being asked to approve two bond proposals. The proposal from the City ofGarland is divided into 8 sections that total $423,700,000. At the same time, we are supposed toapprove a bond issue of $1.1 Billion for Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) with NoTax Increases.

The City of Garland Bond Breakdown

A: Streets and Transportation: $122,250,000B: Public Safety: $51,350,000 C: Storm Drainage: $47,350,000D: Parks and Recreation: $117,750,000E: Libraries: $21,000,000F: Economic Development: $46,000,000G: Municipal Facilities: $6,000,000H: Animal Shelter: $12,000,000

[Additional information: https://garlandtx.gov]

Dallas Count Community College DistrictProposition A

Prop A is separated the issue into three categories

Category 1: $235 million for industry-alignedworkforce projects and programs. Category 2: $332 million for student-relatedinstruction and success programs. Category 3: $535 million for the DallasEducation and Innovation Hub.

This is a proposition is a single issue on the ballot.Voters approve or deny the bond with one vote. The DCCCD claims there will be no tax increase

These are both nonsense.

The City of Garland admitted on their website they were targeting a billion dollar bond issue and wereasking people for suggestions to spend the billion dollars. They eventually settled for $423,700,000. At least they have broken it into 8 separate votes on the ballot.

The new norm seems to be $1 Billion bonds since the voters approved the $1 Billion for the City ofDallas in November 2017. Instead of issuing bonds for NECESSITIES, they go after WANTS.

The votes are always scheduled for low turnout elections. Those that will benefit directly from thebond are sure to turn out but the opposition is more likely to shrug their shoulders and stay home. They also schedule the vote as quickly as they can when they decide how much they want and a roughoutline of what the money will be used for. Scheduling the vote as soon as possible minimizes the timefor opposition to get organized.

DCCCD claims no tax increase. “Passing the new DCCCD bond program will have a neutral impactproperty taxes. While the average contribution by taxpayers to DCCCD is less than 5 percent of theirtotal tax bill, the district’s impact on Dallas County is large with seven colleges serving more than100,000 students and DCCCD providing $19 million per year in free tuition scholarships.” How doesthis explain “tax free”? www.dcccd.edu/bond/pages/default.aspx

Vote “NO” on the bonds.

Insist they ask for what they need not what they want. Put the bond issues on high turnout elections.Publish the bond issue well ahead of the election to give opposition time to organize.

They go for big numbers to satisfy their ego not to accomplish reasonable goals.

Austin Report April 2019

Costly End to Voter Purge

In late January, Texas Secretary of State David Whitley advised Texas counties to investigate a list of95,000 registered voters whose U.S. citizenship was possibly in doubt (58,000 had cast a ballot). Analysisrevealed questionable methodology in compiling the names. The list included naturalized citizens. Civil and voting rights groups claimed voter suppression and intimidation of naturalized citizens.

The State of Texas has settled three lawsuits against embattled SOS Whitley’s flawed attempt at purgingthousands of Texans from the voter rolls. The state must cough up some $450,000 in legal and plaintiffattorney fees for their questionable effort.

Secretary of State Whitley, errand boy for a policy not under his control, has devolved into aplaceholder. He has not been confirmed by the Senate. Senators must conduct their own review ofWhitely and remove him from consideration.

The next big battle is November 2020, and beyond that, redistricting. Without extremegerrymandering and aggressive voter suppression, the Republican hegemony cannot be maintained, either in Texas or nationwide. That’s why they're also trying to weaponize the census with questionsabout citizenship, in hopes of reducing the residency count in Democratic regions. In the end, the bestcourse is the vote.

Generating Numbers from the Air

A 2.5 percent year-on-year cap on growth in overall revenue for school districts, cities, counties, collegeand health districts is well below the population-plus-inflation that used to be the gold standard fortaxes. In other words, if this cap is passed, local services will be cut.

Aside from wishes and promises, details have yet to emerge on how the state will make those schoolswhole. There is no pretense to make whole other authorities who would be on a glide path toward fiscalcrisis if HB2 works as promised. Despite state leaders’ tone of consensus and confidence, there’s a lot ofground that needs covering to establish why, let alone how, we need to “relieve” or “reform” Texastaxes. The “proper” tax rate is unknown.

The Republicans have removed for most Texans any link between what government does and what itcosts. Regardless of how, as a matter of principle, you think your taxes should be spent, the numbers inplay here (2.5 percent, 4 percent, 6 percent or the current 8 percent) are generated from the air, orpulled out of the affluent GOP faithful who are so very angry about their rising tax bills.

Another Move to Ban Abortions

Rep. Matt Schaefer (TXHS 6R), with his HB 2434, would make it illegal to choose abortion based on thesex, race, or disability of a fetus, including “physical disfigurement, scoliosis, dwarfism, Down syndrome, albinism, amelia, or any other type of physical, mental, or intellectual abnormality or disease.” Thisdraconian bill was challenged by American Civil Liberties Union. ACLU attorney, Anjali Salvador calledthe legislation both unconstitutional and inhumane during a State Affairs Committee meeting last week.

Supreme Court precedent prevents states from banning abortions based on a woman’s reasons forobtaining the procedure. Salvador said, “These decisions are deeply and profoundly personal, andthat's exactly why they should be left with each woman in consultation with her health care provider. This is not about abortion, it’s about women making the best choices for their health and their families.”

Upcoming bills on Eminent Domain

All House bills have to be reported out of the House Committee by Monday, May 6, 2019. There are anumber of bills regarding Eminent Domain, protecting Land owner rights. Omnibus bills, HB 421 andHB 991, if passed out of committee will head to the House floor and then head to the governor’s desk.

Rep. Colin Allred Voting Record

This article serves several purposes. First, it gives us an idea of well Colin Alred isrepresenting us in the House of Representatives. Second, it provides insight into theactivities of the Democratically led House other than committees dedicated toTrump and the swamp. These are major bills voted on in 2019. The bill identification is followed by a briefdescription and the house vote in parenthesis. Colin Allred voted Yea unless noted otherwise. Allpassed the House except HJRes 46 to override Trump’s emergency declaration.

Conclusion: Rep. Colin Allred follows the party line — voting for the people in true-blue House District32. Democrats have passed a lot of good and important bills that get little attention because the Senate, under the strangle-hold of Senate Majority Leader (a.k.a. Grim Reaper), Mitch McConnell, blocks any andall paths forward.

House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi runs a tight ship. The Democratic crew realize she knows what she isdoing and respect her strong leadership.

The “Victim” is the PerpetratorApril 16, 2019

Yesterday, the Texas Senate passed property taxlegislation under duress and over objections.

The Legislature must take action to address rapidlyrising property taxes. No question. But Senate Bill 2won’t do it. In fact, it further tips the balance in favor of commercial property owners at the expense ofhomeowners. I voted no.

The legislation that could provide true property taxrelief — House Bill 3, the school finance bill — was beingheld hostage to secure passage of this legislation, whichonly creates the appearance of property tax relief.

In fact, the illusion of property tax relief was deemed soessential that the possibility of the “nuclear option” wasinvoked. The “nuclear option” refers to anunprecedented procedural maneuver that probablydoesn’t matter to folks who just want lower propertytaxes. But it’s a big, big deal to those of us who careabout the Texas Senate and the tradition of deliberationthat was once revered in this chamber. A tradition ofdeliberation we sorely need in government.

That threat prompted my good friend, Sen. Kel Seliger, to flip his vote and allow the bill to come to the floor.Sen. Seliger, a Republican and the former mayor ofAmarillo, knows that local governments aren’t the reasonthat folks are rightfully frustrated with property taxesbut he also knows that raw power grabs can do damageto future collaboration and do little but make partisanpolitics even worse.

Who’s the Problem?

The biggest culprit in rising property taxes is theLegislature.

As property values go up, the Legislature’s responsibilityfor public school funding goes down. Over the past sixyears, the growth in property values across the state hasgenerated an additional $10 billion in local property taxrevenue, which has freed up the same amount in statedollars to be spent according to the will of theLegislature.

Those state dollars could have been invested in loweringschool tax rates or increasing the homestead exemption — if controlling property taxes had been the priority. But those in control of the Capitol had more pressingpriorities, such as franchise tax cuts for businesses. Thatrevenue stream was actually supposed to help withproperty taxes. Instead, those controlling the Capitolcut it by billions of dollars—again, dollars that couldhave provided property tax relief — and everyone elsehas paid the price.

The guilty need others to blame. They complain that cities andcounties are the problem when it’sreally the state’s failure to fund itsconstitutional obligation for schoolsand its over reliance on localproperty tax dollars to meet that obligation.

You can’t be both the victim and the perpetrator.

While SB 2 takes aim at local governments, we all knowthat it was the Legislature’s willful neglect that created this crisis. And SB 2 won’t don’t anything to fix it. Instead, it will hinder local governments in makingdecisions about funding police, fire, EMS, parks, playgrounds and libraries. I guess getting elected to thelegislature somehow makes a person smarter than thefolks that get elected to make the local desions on theseimportant items.

And now, a tax increase

The sudden chatter about about a sales tax/property taxswap suggests that folks throughout the Capitol knowthat their big proposals so far won’t live up toexpectations.

So now they’re floating a constitutional amendment toincrease the sales tax and use the revenue to buy downproperty taxes. They’ve called it a 1-cent increase. It’smore than that. It would take the sales tax from 6.25percent on the purchase of most things you buy to 7.25percent. That adds up for families.

Most people wouldn’t see a net tax cut under thatscenario. In fact, only homeowners with incomes of more than $149,000 would come out ahead. Andrenters — more than 50 percent of Austin residents arerenters — would take it on the chin because they’d paymore in sales tax but wouldn’t see a decrease in rentunless their landlord is very, very generous.

It’s simply unacceptable to me that the Legislature isconsidering raising taxes on the many to lower taxes fora few.

This crisis was created over many years and it will taketime to address it. Perhaps if those in control theLegislature were honest with Texans, they wouldn’t betossing out half-baked and damaging ideas in the lastthird of the legislative session.
