May Revival and May Day…….Insert
Wow! It has been 90 days already! There
have been some interesting days. There
have been some challenging days. We
have experience some celebratory days
and even some critically confounding
days. Yet through the process and through
the progress the one consistent thread that
has held us together has been your
“Spiritual courage!”
The bravery that you have shown in en-
deavoring into this relationship together
has been commendable. The valor
you have demonstrated both
publicly and privately is un-
precedented and therefore it is
with sheer delight that we serve
this magnificent family of GOD.
The boldness in your journey can be seen
in the way you have trusted your Spiritual
Leadership and me to navigate through the
waves of frustration, anger and even
doubt. When others would have quit (and
some have) you have courageously held
on. The Spiritual courage of this amazing
family has been the fuel necessary to move
forward! You have emboldened others
with your tremendous power. Look around
you; leaders are emerging, minis
tries are being launched, children are being
empowered, the community has peaked in
and it has only been 90 days! Family, un-
derstand that none of this can be attained
without you! Your Spiritual courage is
contagious! Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
said, Strangely
enough, I can
never be
what I ought
to be until
you are what
you ought to be.
Now family of GOD that is
powerful! We are fervently praying that
you continue steadfast in your Spiritual
fortitude because we believe this pleases
GOD and remember the victory is give to
those who endure. So when the distractors
try to
distract, the firefighters bring their hoses,
the carnal bring their malice, envy and
jealousy, the haters bring their hate you do
what you have been doing and go “boldly”
to the throne of grace! Your Spiritual
courage has been our strength. Now fi-
nally in the words of Marcus Garvey,
“Lose not courage, lose not faith, go for-
ward.”

Evangelist and
Teacher
Dr. C. Matthews Dr. C Matthews was our guest speaker
Sunday, March 17, 2013. We had a good
time in the Lord and received good teach-ing on being a good steward. We have to
treat the things of God right, and He will
treat us right. The church is a business and
have to operate like a business, and the
members should follow certain rules to
make it work for all involved . Churches
are not banks and offerings must be re-corded to give credit to its members. God
is watching and the government is also.
We want our churches to be in line with
God, and God say we should be in line with the rules and regulations of the state.
The teaching was informative and
inspiriting.

The SAVE OUR SONS, march against the mad-
ness was a great time in the Lord. We had over
100 people-members, police, and community leaders join us as we marched against the mad-
ness of senseless violence in the black commu-
nity. Many are ready to continue the fight and
help Hovey Street COC make a difference in our
community. I talked to many at the march and all
had kin or friends killed for no reason, just ran-
dom— “in wrong place at wrong time”. Hovey
Street COC is ready to stop this madness please
see Evangelist Howard for how you can help .
“Are you ready?, "is a reflective question that
Bro Denell Howard has asked the Hovey Street
congregation each Sunday. This question has
generated excitement and enthusiasm during
our Sunday morning worship. However, this
question challenges and inspires the congrega-
tion to reflect on what God has called each one
of us to do in relationship to His Kingdom.
Above all, this question gives the members of
Hovey Street a biblical and therapeutic frame-
work to identify and tap into the Nehemiah in
them. I believe there is a Nehemiah in all us
who have been called and obeyed God’s plan of
salvation. Nehemiah, a cup bearer and a com-
forter, was caught in between his career and his
call. According to Christian Psychologist and
Therapist when a Christian feels like they are
caught between a secular career and a spiritual
call they may experience symptoms of anxie-
ties, grief and depression. In Nehemiah 1:3-4 it
appears Nehemiah was confronted with a simi-
lar struggle and dilemma.
Nehemiah, 1:3-4 and they said unto me, the
remnant that are left of the captivity there in
the province are in great affliction and re-
proach; the wall of Jerusalem also is broken
down, and the gates thereof are burned with
fire. And it came to pass, when I heard these
words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned
certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the
God of heaven. As the story goes, Nehemiah
received some bad news from one of his family
members that the walls of Jerusalem were in
ruins. Nehemiah was told that his assistance
was needed. When Nehemiah heard the news,
he was conflicted and moved with compassion
to assist with the restoring of the walls of Jeru-
salem. Like the walls of Jerusalem that were in
ruins, the Hovey Street congregation was in a
state of decay and
spiritual disin-
tegration.
However, God
opened up a space
for healing and res-
toration and began
to renew the spirits of our congregation. Hovey
Street is under spiritual construction! We are
building on our traditions for the future to pro-
vide hope, help and healing. This spiritual con-
struction is lead by Bro Denell Howard, T.C
Jones and Bro Dwight Holland with a cast of
ministry leaders and trustees.
It is my belief that Nehemiah is a reminder to
the believer that God has a ram when our life
appears to be ruined. The book of Nehemiah
has served as a spiritual blueprint to help Hovey
Street begin to heal and build aggressively. In
addition, it teaches us the power of prayer, pa-
tience, and persistence and gives us hope in
spite of our feelings of hopelessness. Those
that are reading this may ask the question,
“How do I tap into the Nehemiah in me?” Ac-
cording to Charles Swindoll in his book called
“Hand Me Another Brick,” claims that Nehe-
miah teaches us how to tap into and build qual-
ity characteristics in ourselves and others when
faced with insurmountable odds. I recommend
the process to tap into the Nehemiah in us in-
volves: (1) identify the blockers that bury your
blessings, (2) tap into the motivating factors
that enable you the ability to differentiate your
career from your calling, (3)
release your doubts and em-
brace your faith and (4) pas-
sionately pursue your goal to
rebuild with prayer and per-
sistence. With that said, the
burning question is, Are You
Ready Hovey Street to build,
to bless and to pro-
vide hope, help and
healing. That’s
where we’re headed.
It is time to activate
the Nehemiah in
Y.O.U.

H ovey Street COC has seven
ministry that completed
leadership classes in March 2013,
which is a requirement to be over a
ministry.
Our first ministry leader is Keisha
Howard who is leading the
Women’s Ministry.
Her mission is to teach, encourage
and uplift Christian women to be
powerful in their walk with Christ,
through
hope, help, healing.
T.L.C. Totally Living for Christ
Keisha is so excided about the
things that God is going to do with
and for us here at Hovey Street
COC , this year. This is the call for
our ladies to roll up our sleeves,
and get our hands dirty! Let us step
into this painful world bringing the
healing touch of Christ to all those
who are bruised, crushed, lost and
broken. I’m asking for your love,
prayers, support and help. We have
a lot of work to do, so let’s get
started.
John Perry is other ministry leader
over the Building & Grounds.
John want to care for our building
and grounds so everyone in the
community wants to come to our
church.
Another ministry at Hovey Street
COC is The Son Light Children’s
Ministry which is headed by
La Tosha Hutchinson. She wants
to encompass many of the entities
involving children ages 3-10 years
of age, such as our Bible Classes
on Sunday morning and Wednes-
day evening, and the Bright Eyes
Reading Program (which meets the
3rd Saturday of the month from 10
a.m. to approximately 12 noon).
The name was chosen because we
are to emulate the Christ, the Son
of God, and to ‘let our light so
shine before men’ (Matt. 5:16). So,
throughout the programs and ac-
tivities incorporated into the Son-
Light Children’s Ministry, the
concept of “This little light of
mine, I’m going to let it shine; Let
it shine” will be enmeshed
throughout.
Every class/program under the
SCM encompasses one or more of
the smaller age groups: our 3-5
year olds, our 6-8 year olds, and
our 9-10 year olds; each to be
named at a later date. Within the
SCM, programs and activities will
be developed with an aim to
strengthen the whole child, to en-
rich both the spirituality and the
future of our children here at
Hovey Street COC. It is a joy to
assist in our mission of hope, help,
and healing. Till next time, stay
prayed up and joined with the
Father !!
Our next ministry leader is
Sabrina Stallworth-Graham
who is leading the Media Ministry.
The Media Ministry is working to
let the city of Indianapolis know
Hovey Street COC (HSCOC) is
here to hope, help and heal our
community.
We have a facebook join us, and
twitter-follow us, and want all to
come and see what’s going on at
HSCOC.
This is our second monthly news-
letter which comes out every sec-
ond Sunday of the month. We want
members and community to know
what is happening here at HSCOC,
and then they will want to join us
as we grow in the Lord’s ways. We
are here to help the ministries do
flyers and/or post cards to an-
nounce what is happening at our
church. We will soon have a web
site and as funds allow video and
CD copy machine to give the sick
and shut in and others a chance to
hear the messages given here. The
Media Ministry need your prayers
and help so, Hovey Street can be a
force in our community. See you
all on facebook and twitter, both
accounts is listed as Hovey Street
Church of Christ see you all there!
Our next minis-
try is Prayer
Ministry which
I lead by
Joseph
Thompson.
He believe this
is a powerful ministry. We are
ready to pray for all of your needs
at Hovey Street COC.
James 5:16-18
The prayers of the righteous
availeth much.
We are a ministry that offer hope ,
help, and healing to all.
May God bless you all!
La Darrly Holland is over our
Prison Ministry Lifting The Bars
Inside Prison Ministry.
The prison ministry is to encourage
the youth to not go to prison, and
get them to realize it is not hip to
be incarcerated. Educate adults
how to be free from bondage in
their mind, body, and soul, because
until the adults are free the children
will never be free.
Heart, Mind, Soul
Mark 12:30
Our last ministry is the Music
Ministry lead by Myron Turman.
This ministry is very important to
the church , Myron plans to make
it the best, starting with a junior
choir. Hovey Street COC will be
able to hope, help, and heal
through the music.
The minister leaders of Hovey
Street COC need all the members
to Pray and join them in their work
for the Lord.
