OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL DENVER, COLORADO Food For Faith Living from the desk of Fr. Mark

The weeks following Easter are full of the meaning and results of Our Lord’s Resurrection from the dead. They reveal the truths denied, rejected or ridiculed by the people. They remind us of the Covenant God has made and is ever faithful to in the face of people’s failures, betrayals and false expectations. Understanding what God is saying continues to be the essential human blind spot. This takes different attitudes than that of Jesus. The range from self-righteousness, which justifies their absolute reliance on rules, laws, practices and traditions, to the other extreme of self-importance and satisfaction in one’s own eyes and how much a person achieves by self. The covenant continues to be God’s way of relating to us and the way to God’s will being fulfilled, which is, that everyone come to the truth and abide by God’s love. It is the kingdom come and fully realized! It happens when a person lives God’s truth and shares God’s love because this will break down the barriers of ignorance and fear, superstition and fantasies about God. People will be attracted to God’s presence by the manner in which people of true faith live it. That is you and me, or should be. Being human, we fail, at times, but sincerity of heart and reliance on God’s Spirit energizing us ever brings us back to our “yes” in being faithful to God, each other and all others. We see this happening in Acts (1st reading): “The people esteem them and great numbers of men and women were added to them.” This is how the church spread everywhere. Revelation (2nd reading) is apocalyptic literature pertaining to the end time: “We see one like a son of man (Jesus) in his glory.” He tells John to write down what he sees and says, “I am the first and the last, the One who lives forever. I hold the keys to death and the netherworld!” The Gospel today speaks of doubting Thomas, a person we know well and are much like. He wants proof, so Jesus provides it and speaks words meant for all of us to rely on: “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed!” Our belief is neither words nor acceptance of doctrines. It is a lifestyle of living God’s truths at home, church, work, in community and society, with all of creation! What energizes our hope, in the face of daily contradictions and violence, is Divine Mercy. God will not abandon us and our efforts! Thanks be to God.

The Easter event changed Jesus and the women who were the first to see Him. It changed the disciples, and it can change us if we allow it. To be open to change is to be open to the unexpected. The reality of resurrected life that embraces God’s life sets us free from human limitations. WE joyfully celebrate this great moment in faith. Blessings on this Easter Day and Season, Servite Friars, Pastoral and Support Staffs'

A small bottle of Holy Water is available for the: EASTER BLESSING OF HOMES

The head of the home conducts this blessing in the presence of the family by reciting:

BLESSING In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Peace to this home and all who dwell here. Lord, we rejoice in the victory of your Son over death;

by rising from the tomb to new life He gives us new hope and promise. Bless all the members of this household, and surround them with your protection,

may they find comfort and peace in Jesus Christ, the Paschal Lamb, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, for ever and ever.

Amen. The head of the house may sprinkle those present and the home with holy water, dur-ing the sprinkling the head of house may say: Let this water call to mind our Bap-tism in Christ, Who by His death and Resurrection has redeemed us. The head of the house concludes the rite by signing himself or herself with the Sign of the Cross and saying: May Christ Jesus dwell with us, keep us from all harm, and make us one in mind and heart, now and for ever. Amen DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY, APRIL 3, 2016 We have a chaplet and adoration of the Divine Mercy Image after the 9 am
