Joseph Oganda April 1, 2018 Easter Sunday A Good Day to Die Do you remember your own baptism? I wish I could; I was baptized as an infant, just a few days old. I envy the adults I have seen baptized at the Easter Vigil. Hopefully, they experience what St. Paul says in the epistle we hear at the Vigil. For Paul, Baptism is a sign of dying and rising to new life. Sounds like Easter to me. So when Jesus died, he rose from the dead. Is Paul telling us that we will rise from the dead, too? Yes, but that is not his main point. If all we think about is our physical death, and hope we go to heaven afterwards, we're missing the point. The new life starts with our baptism, not just our physical death. That's why Paul says things like, "our old self was crucified" or "sinful body done away with. . .." (Rom 6:6) Baptism gives us a new life NOW. The water is both cleansing and a sign of dying (symbolic drowning) that help us see we are free from sin. We are dead to sin when we begin to live in Christ. The fictional Klingons have a saying "today is a good day to die" to express courage in battle. But real Christians might say that Easter is a good day to die: we have died to sin and begun a new life in Christ. How do we experience this dying to sin? First, we identify the sinful areas of our life. Do I watch mov- ies, video games, or TV shows that encourage promiscuity, lying, revenge, hatred or selfishness? What sins do I confess repeatedly and what can I do to avoid them? Next we look for ways to act differently: Can I spend more time with friends/relatives who are examples of love? Can I spend less time entertaining myself and more time in prayer? Instead of complaining about what is wrong with the world, can I find ways to make it better? (If not the world, then my community or fami- ly.) These are a few of the ways we begin our new in Christ. Tom Schmidt, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

Easter Sunday A Good Day to Die Do you remember your own baptism? Do I watch mov-ies, video games, or TV shows that encourage promiscuity, lying, revenge, hatred or selfishness? Can I spend less time entertaining myself and more time in prayer? Instead of complaining about what is wrong with the world, can I find ways to make it better? R L C Easter Joy – This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad! The darkness of the winter is gone and the gloom of Good Friday is behind us. Today is a wonderful day to celebrate Christ’s love for us. Learn, Act, Connect, Pray: Let us go forth today with a song in our hearts. After you leave Mass, do you ever have a few lines of a hymn that stick with you the rest of the day? The song resonates in your heart so much that you want to sing it or carry the tune in your heart the rest of the day. That’s joy! Let’s share it! Share joy with every-one you encounter today – smile, be happy, greet strangers, go out of your way to be nice to people. Slow down. Appreciate the small moments of joy today, and then share it with others. Knights of Columbus update…

The Knights of Columbus recently voted to donate $100 to the Catholic Services Ministry Appeal. We sup-port Father Joseph’s position as a Director on this worth-while appeal. The Knights will have a First Degree installation for new members on April 10th. A meal will be served at 6 pm and the meeting will be at 7 pm. We invite anyone interested in becoming a Knights of Columbus to contact any Knight. We always welcome new members to assist with our charitable activities.

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord Still risen. There are 25 readings chosen for the vigil and day of Easter. There are so many we can feel over-whelmed. The gospel acclamation gives this sum-mary: Christ, our paschal lamb, has been sacrificed; let us then feast with joy in the Lord. As paschal lamb, Jesus, who died for us, is the Risen Christ. For us all! We. Feast. With. Joy! • What needs to be dead in me so I can live in

Easter joy? • What fills me with joy? • How will I joyfully behave?

Catholic Daughters Court #795 - 95th Anniversay Catholic Daughters will celebrate their 95th anni-versary w/ honor masses on both Sat. April 7th and Sun. April 8th and at our regular monthly meeting on April 9th. Rosary will be recited Mon.at 6:30 and the business meeting will follow. Committee co-chairs are Kelly Paxton & Debbie Olinger.
