Student AchievementsShayla from Kookaburra class is writing terrific stories using interesting vocabulary and plausible attempts at spelling. Year 6 student leaders completed their final Peer Support group presentation yesterday and should be extremely proud of their leadership skills that continued to grow and strengthen throughout this term. Our whole school has earned a reward by filling our large container with “Smilie” awards for following our school rules of being safe, friendly and respectful, resilient learners. Our school ministers have chosen a movie as the reward this time and students will watch ‘Finding Nemo’ this Friday. On the 20th June, 18 of our students competed at the PSSA AFL Knockout Competition held at Fairfax Reserve, Harrington Park. Appin won 68-6 and will now move on to the next round of competition.Congratulations to all these students and keep up your fantastic efforts.Stamp Chart SuperstarsCongratulations to the following students who have filled their stamp chart or accumulated dojo points by demonstrating and following our classroom rules.Owl: BenjaminFairywren: Harmony, Amelia, Maddison, Jaxon, RykaKookaburra: Branwen, Hudson, Nate, Layla, Josh R, Joel, DaisyLyrebird: Corey, Kalani

Woolworths Earn & Learn ProgramWoolworths - Earn & Learn Program has now finished. Please bring in any stickers or sheets (full or not) to the office as soon as possible, so we can collate and redeem our points. Thank you for supporting our school to help us get much needed resources for the classrooms.GymtasticsGymtastics has now finished for the year. Could you please finalise payment (total cost of $25.00) by the end of this week, Friday, 5th July 2019. Thank you for your assistance.Payment Information on Statements of Account for Stage 3 Canberra ExcursionStatements of Account are usually emailed to parents at the end of each term. Please be advised of the following information in regards to the Canberra Camp payments. The camp payment is shown in two separate amounts on the Statement of Accounts: $24.00 is the GST component and $326.00 is the camp balance component. A total of $350.00.Once you have paid the deposit of $50.00 it is receipted as $24.00 to GST and $26.00 to camp payment. Once the $24.00 has been paid it doesn’t show on your invoice any more. The balance owing remains on the invoice until it is paid in full, then also drops off the invoice. I hope this explanation makes sense, but if you need any further clarification, please pop into the office to see me. Thank you Karen Hunt, School Administration Manager.

Lost PropertyPlease come and claim any items from our Lost Property Tub before this Friday, as we will be donating unwanted items to the Uniform Shop or to a charity. Just a reminder to make sure that all articles of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Parents are also asked to check their child’s hat and jumper to make sure they have not taken home someone else’s by mistake. Please return any items that are not your own to the office. Thank you.

… to make rainbow sushi.

Ingredients (serves 4) 1 ½ cups sushi rice 4 tbsp sushi vinegar 185g can of tuna, drained 1 tbsp mayonnaise 4 nori sheets (dried seaweed) Veg cut into thin strips - ½ carrot, ¼ capsicum, ½

raw, peeled beetroot, 5cm cucumber, ½ avocado

Method Cook rice according to packet instructions. Fluff the rice with a fork and pour over the sushi vinegar. Stir well to combine. Spread the rice on a baking tray to cool. Mix the tuna and mayo together. Lay a nori sheet on a bamboo sushi mat, shiny side down. With wet fingers, spread ¼ of the rice over ¾ of the sheet, leaving a ¼ of the sheet clear at the end furthest away from you. Place the tuna and veg across the rice. Using the bamboo mat, roll the sushi away from you stopping where the rice ends. Brush some water along the rice free nori and finish rolling, pressing gently to seal. Repeat with the rest of the sheets. Dip a sharp knife in water and cut the sushi into pieces.

SOUTHERN STARS COMES ALIVE IN 2019 – Tickets on sale!

The show once again will have something for everyone. The theme and show segments are all based around how students come alive when they perform. It’s the biggest show in the history of Southern Stars with over 3,000 students from over 100 schools in the Illawarra and around NSW. The students will take part in a world-class two hour arena style variety show that will feature pop, country, rock, and opera.

COME ALIVE includes two circus troupes, audience favourites - the NSW Public School Millennial Marching Band, a 600 strong choir, rock band, our Aboriginal dance ensemble, massive student orchestra, the Black Swans with an original item based on stories of the Illawarra, 2000 dancers, amazingly talented featured artists, the signing choir and disABILITY students fully integrated with our drama students and vocalists, and much more.

As in past years, community support of Southern Stars is vital to ensure its success, and the easiest way of showing your support is by attending one of the four blockbuster shows. It doesn’t matter if you know anyone performing in the show or not – Southern Stars is a high energy spectacle which provides great entertainment for people of all ages. The talent, energy and enthusiasm of our students, is something not to be missed. Anyone who has attended a show says so!Over 12,000 people are expected to attend the four performances at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong on Friday August 23 (10am and 7.30pm) and Saturday August 24 (2pm and 7.30pm) - make sure you are one of them!
