Definition of Team

A team generates positive synergy through coordinated effort which results in a level of performance that is greater than the sum of the individual inputs.

Differences between Groups and Teams

Problem solving Team: Group of 5 to 12 employee from the same department who meet for a few hours each week to discuss way of improving quality, efficiency, and the work environment.

Self-managed work team: Groups of 10 to 15 people who take on responsibility of their supervisor.

Type of team

Cross-functional team: Employee from about the same hierarchical level, but from different areas, who come together to accomplish a task.

Virtual Teams: Teams that use computer technology to tie together physically dispersed members in order to achieve a common goal.

Why is Diversity Important?

Simply diversity means right place with right person.

Broadly we can say that a characteristic of a group of people where differences exist on one or more relevant dimensions such as gender, age, race.

Diversity

Surface-level diversity: Difference in easily perceived characteristics, such as gender, race, ethnicity, age, or disability, that do not necessary reflect the ways people think or feel but that may activate certain stereotypes.

Deep-level diversity: Difference in values, personality, and preference that become progressively more important for determining similarity as people get to know one another better.
