In Newness of Life Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
-- Romans 6:4
The church calendar commemorates every year things that actually happened just once in all of history. We celebrate One Lord, One Savior, One Son of God, marking His birth on Christmas, His death on Good Friday and His resurrection on Easter. In our baptism, the story gets personal. We take on the death of Christ so that we can share in His resurrection as well. The next step is to walk in newness of life – that is, to change our hearts, minds, and actions so that we become the Body of Christ in our community. I used to think that this new walk was about the things we don’t do – and that is part of it. But the part we often miss is the walk itself. It’s easy to stay on the path if you’re standing still. Life is a journey, filled with changes, progress, setbacks, and surprises. We are called to walk in the newness of life. Jesus came that we might have life, and life in abundance. Paul returns to this analogy of a walk in Ephesians 2:10 -- For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. What are these good works? I think Jesus provides a great and practical summary in the story of the nations as sheep and goats at the last judgement. Matthew 25:34-36 says, “Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’” When we support the Fillin’ Station, our massive food bank, we are feeding the hungry. We are also feeding the hungry when we provide fellowship for those who are hungry for human contact. We can certainly visit those who are in prison, but we know many shut-ins who are imprisoned by their inability to walk, drive, or leave the house. Strangers may be people we don’t know, or they may just be the people we don’t want to know. The word “Stranger” (Greek xenos) means foreign, alien, novel, and guest. We clothe the naked when we donate clothing, but also when we accommodate those who need help with our facilities and traditions. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover over a multitude of sins.” Be hospi-table to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. (1 Peter 4:8-10) In this resurrection life, we are not just dead to sin, but alive in Christ! As we celebrate this new life, let’s re-dedicate ourselves to strangers, shut-ins and those in need. I want to see everyone as Jesus sees them, and to love them as Jesus does. I’ll fall short, and sometimes I’ll forget, but working together, we can and will bring the Kingdom of God to our community.
In Christ’s Love,
Pastor Joel

MISSION TRIP
This summer, the Youth Group is going on a World Changers mis-sion trip to Fort Pierce, FL, June 24-29. World Changers provides wonderful mission opportuni-ties, featuring Youth-oriented worship and devo-tional materials and age-appropriate service pro-jects in the community. Typically, the middle-schoolers paint while the high-schoolers put new shingles on the roof of someone in need. At one World Changers event, I helped a team build a wheelchair ramp. As we prepare for the trip and begin the process of fundraising, we humbly ask that you lift us up in prayer and seek the Lord’s guidance to show you ways in which you might be able to help us. We need to raise more than $300 per person. There’s more to making a mission trip work than money and prayer, of course, and our church is a wonderful support structure for our young people. I know that we all want to see them grow in their relationship with Christ. A $60 registration fee will be due from each youth and chaperone who plans to come along by Wednesday, May 15. Thank you so much for your prayers and consideration! If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to ask. For Christ and His Kingdom, Chris Walz
PASTOR JOEL LEADS “DISCIPLE LITES”
Pastor Joel has begun a new class on Wednes-days for children grades 4 through 6. We will learn the basics of Bible study, music and wor-ship through “Disciple Lites”. All children meet in the Christian Center before 6, when Pastor and other volunteers will take the new class to the sanctuary for “sword drills”, acolyte lessons, and basic music lessons.
We need more volunteers for all of our children and youth programs. If you can help, please inform Debbie Snooks or Becky Malcom.

Finance, Stewardship and Outreach Committee —
The Finance, Stewardship, Outreach Committee is entrusted with managing the use of
God’s money that the members have given to Guyton Christian Church through their tithes
and offerings. This committee proposes a budget to the General Board during the last quarter
of a year for the following year. This budget covers the functional committees, the Minister’s
earnings and other needed expense allotments.
The committee also proposes the Outreach percentage of undesignated funds received
to be disbursed to various ministries in the state, nation and internationally. The Finance,
Stewardship, and Outreach Committee selects these missions and charities in the first quarter
of each year. Other financial needs are also presented to this committee for review and distri-
bution during the course of the year.
This year, Guyton Christian Church will give 12 percent of all undesignated donations to
various missions and charities. That is expected to be just over $25,000. At its first quarterly
meeting of this year, the Committee voted to distribute these funds among these charities
and causes: Christian Church in Georgia, Fillin’ Station, Treutlen House, Mission on the Move,
Camp Kicklighter, Camp Christian, Samaritan Fund, Two Rivers Medical Clinic, My Father’s
House Ministry, Johnson University, Habitat for Humanity, Café 1040, and Faith Comes by
Hearing (Military Bible Sticks).
God, as Creator, is the ultimate Owner of all possessions on earth. God has given peo-
ple the authority to be stewards of those possessions and the responsibility to faithfully man-
age them according to the principles in the Word of God. The members of the Finance, Stew-
ardship, and Outreach Committee strive to be faithful to God’s Word.
For where your treasure is,
there will your heart be also.—Luke 12:34
Honor the Lord with your possessions and
with the first produce of your entire harvest. – Proverbs 3:9
